Sorry, but this is the kind of thing that triggers my OCD…

Why is there a dash between Han & Solo in the title of this thread?

Because it’s a solo movie. Not a Solo movie.

Ah. Got it. I still need a Zanex, but I got it.

I’m honestly a bit surprised they didn’t do an Ashoka movie or something more contemporary.

Who?

Because I’m new, I’m not sure if you’re serious or screwing with me, but if your point is that I mispelled her name, then yes, I mispelled her name. It has been corrected. My apologies.

I think ray may have been joking with his ‘who?’ - in that a few on here don’t follow the EU or animated series closely - so likely wouldn’t know who that character is.

I think…

I am actually interested in this movie. Why? Because I’ve never thought about young Han Solo. I thought about what Luke might do after ROTJ, I thought about what happened before the OT (before I saw PT).

There isn’t anything this movie can ruin for me, no expectations it can fall short of.

Yup - I’m also hoping for more of a fun watch - the last two R1 and TLJ have had massive stakes, so hopefully something well crafted but lighter…

Someone was able to get the character names off those Lego sets.

Han Solo (Imperial Disquise) & Tobias Beckett (Imperial Disquise)

This could end up being a funny little nod to ANH. Was it ever established who’s idea it was to disguise themselves as stormtroopers? I always got the idea that it was Han’s idea.

Also, wasn’t Rey originally supposed to be called Kira? I guess Qi-Ra (Emilia Clarke’s character) is meant to be a nod to that.

Is Han’s short career as an Imperial officer is still canon?

Kind of glad they changed her name, because this is what I think of first when I hear Kira

And this comes to mind second…

Nope, all of the EU is gone

No offense, kid, but I don’t think you know how to boil water.

Except Thrawn, Chewie’s wife, Hammerhead cruisers, nearly every EU planet (at least in name), Imperial Inquisitors, Sith Holocrons, the droid from the Disney Star Tours ride, and a whole lot of other things.

Is anyone else afraid that Boba Fett will be in this? With his terrible Temura Morrison voice? I don’t want my ears to bleed in the cinema.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

They already said he’s in the movie. I don’t know about Tem Morrison, but Fett is. Also, knowing Lucasfilm, he probably will be playing Fett, due to continuity and him playing Jango and Boba is his clone.

I could be wrong seeing as he is younger in this.

He could always fiddle with the settings on his helmet and the classic Fett voice comes out. 😉

Jason Wingreen is no more sadly. 😦

I never understood why Boba Fett would want to sound like a clone anyway. Tells way too much about him. Maybe we will be lucky and he’ll be silent the whole time.

I’m sure a sound alike can be found. The Fett movie depends on it!

It never made sense that the most infamous bounty hunter in the galaxy would want his real voice coming out of that helmet. Boba often works in disguise, at least in the few EU novels I read with him in them.
Plus, even a bounty hunter must want to walk into a bar incognito and just chill once in a while without everyone in the joint reaching for their blasters. 😉

I have to say the idea of him being voiced SE-DVD style is worse than the idea of him being in the movie to begin with or having his own spinoff.

It could be cool if it’s like a western, which Star Wars often emulated before.

Ahsoka Tano is Anakin’s padawan apprentice as designated by Yoda and the Jedi Council in an ill-advised attempt to reign in his fear, immaturity, and recklessness during the height of The Clone Wars. He calls her “Snips” and they become quite close. She is canon and is a prominent protagonist in The Clone Wars animated series (canon). She also returns as a key protagonist in the Rebels animated series (also canon) and they recently released a canon novel about her.

The prequel movies suck ass, but The Clone Wars animated series, especially the exposition generated by Anakin’s interaction with a padawan apprentice partially redeems the films. They are still dumpster fires, but the story of Anakin’s fall makes much more sense if you see The Clone Wars. Unlike the films, Anakin is rightfully portrayed as a confident, competent leader who is so riddled with fear and regret that he eventually cannot resist Palpatine and the seduction of the Dark Side. This comes across in a believable way instead of the ham-fisted nonsensical entitled little shit way depicted in the films.

Ahsoka has become a major contemporary fan favorite in the strong-female archetype typical of Star Wars. Like you, I am more of an OT fan - that’s my rock - and I definitely want to see a Han Solo origin story, but looking objectively at where the franchise is in 2017/2018, I’m a bit surprised from a business perspective that they decided to go with a young Han Solo story. He’s practically a god to our generation, but not so much to the generations that grew up on the prequels, The Clone Wars, and the sequel trilogy.

Like I said before, a young Han Solo movie released anywhere from 1985 to the perhaps the early 2000s would have absolutely blown up the box office, but I am skeptical, regardless of how good the film is, of how much this movie will draw in 2018. Will it make a shit-ton of money, yes, of course, but I’m not expecting it to come anywhere close to Rogue One or The Last Jedi. And that’s completely irrespective of the apparent difficulties in developing the film which only add to the steepness of the hill it was already facing.

EDIT: I am also concerned that it could “tarnish” the franchise by unleashing a tsunami of criticism if it doesn’t put up Rogue One or The Last Jedi numbers. There’s already a risk of audience fatigue setting in with Star Wars and a poor showing (especially if it turns out to also be a poor film) won’t help in the least.

EDIT2: I think it could be debated that a Boba Fett stand-alone movie would have broader contemporary appeal in 2018 than a Han Solo origin story. I’m not advocating for this position, just saying an argument could be made.

Han Shot. Period.

I guarantee you ray doesn’t care. I really don’t either. I know everyone says the cartoon gets better as it goes along, and maybe that’s true, but I could barely finish season 1.

This film will be good. It will feature Chewbacca. It will feature the Falcon. It will feature the Empire. It will have Jabba in it. It has Ron Howard, Kasdan and Williams involved.

It has a lot of ‘Star Wars’ things in it with a lot of people who understand what Star Wars is making it.

It will be good.

Yea, I hear you. I treat the cartoons like a business transaction - I’m there to get what I need which is the bits and pieces that feed into the larger canon. There’s a lot of superfluous shit in The Clone Wars series. Entire multi-episode arcs that are just random battles, droids runamok, and a LOT of clone porn. But there are key episodes and arcs that really flesh out details of the larger canon and saga all the way through the PT, OT, and ST. For example, I consider the Mortis Trilogy in season 3 to be the single most important three episodes of content outside the films themselves. Not only do they almost single-handedly redeem the prequels in terms of illuminating the underpinnings of Anakin’s fall and ostensible role as “the chosen one”, they also almost fully illustrate the Light Side, the Dark Side, and the neverending struggle for Balance that has consumed the Galaxy for generations upon generations. Not only do these themes permeate the prequels and to a bit lesser extent, the OT, they are directly reflected in The Last Jedi between Rey, Kylo, and Luke. Yoda’s Journey at the end of season 6 greatly fleshes out the concept of the “living” force that allows particularly accomplished force wielders to transcend death and become “force ghosts”. Qui-Gon was the first to achieve this feat and those few episodes are pretty much the main reason why a certain character channeling Zeus in The Last Jedi doesn’t bother me in the least and in fact, makes sense.

I’ve only watched The Clone Wars through once, and I won’t likely do it again, but I am going to put together a list of the essential episodes that feed the most into the larger canon. I’ll post it here when I finish it.

Rebels is more “childish” if you will and doesn’t lend nearly as much to the larger canon. It’s fun mostly for seeing a few cool backstory elements such as how Wedge became a pilot in the Rebellion.

EDIT: Say what you will about Disney (and there’s a lot to be said), but Kathleen Kennedy and the Lucasfilm Story Group are clearly running a tight ship now when it comes to the canon. Executed properly, I expect that the Han Solo movie will tie together a lot of existing storylines, if only with a brief line here or there (ah-la the “obsolete landspeeders” quote in Rogue One). The Kessel run, Chewie’s journey after the Clone Wars to his life-debt to Han, Lando & the Falcon, etc.

Han Shot. Period.

About the 2008 Clone Wars cartoon: I like some of it, but I think most of its content conflicts with the actual movies way too much. Am I supposed to believe that “it’s unfair!” Anakin from Episode III or “he’s jealous! He’s holding me back!” Anakin from Episode II wasn’t granted the rank of master for whatever reason, even though he was a good teacher and a great general? I mean, it would suit Darth Vader, for sure, but not RotS Anakin, and even less AotC Anakin.

Also the whole chip idea is stupid, but apparently it was necessary due to their approach to the clone troopers. I loved the Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2005) campaign and the idea that the clones knew what they had to do from the start, and that is still canon in my heart.

So the cartoon is good like 60% of the time and really bad and childish in others, but it simply doesn’t fit with the movies for me. I personally think Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003) is better in every way.

But this should either have its own thread or be discussed in a neutral thread.

About Solo, I’m going in with 0 expectations. I’m not even thinking about what I want or anything like that, I really don’t know what they could do. I hope I’m pleasantly surprised. Only thing I’m hoping for is for it not to have some Rogue One-type cameos more specifically the guys from the bar being in Jedha, but I’ll give R2 and 3PO cameos a pass, because apparently they should appear in every movie.
