My freshman civics teacher said he was cajun. He also said “I think we educated,” and “We’re all a little racist. You see someone wearing a turban on a plane, yer gonna be scared.”

Did Luke really choke those guards in ROTJ, or did he move their arms up so they couldn’t use their weapons and push them back to the wall so he could walk through?

I’d legitimately like to understand what “busy being poor” means and how that precludes someone from learning other languages.

Go and ask a 19-year-old who has worked for food for over 10 years by scavenging junk and other crap in a town of less than 1000 people here on Earth and get ready to be surprised that they don’t know how to turn even a computer on let alone read or write or speak perfect grammar of their own language.

I want more realism in my children’s fantasy films!

Luke astro-projects himself to Salt Lake Planet, gets shot at by gorilla walkers, has a non-lightsaber duel with Darth Millennial, then dies of a broken heart, inspiring broom boys throughout the galaxy to get creative with their sweeping. - DuracellEnergizer

I seen some of the OT recently and I noticed that Luke understands R2D2, pretty much like Rey does BB-8 in the ST. So I guess I wasn’t correct when I said that that was a new ability.

Poe also understands BB8.

I think the biggest issue (not that it really bothers me but worth mentioning) is that Rey understands BB8 immediately. Luke needed an x-wing translator at first (and always? or did he not need it in ROTJ? I can’t remember) and Poe worked with BB8 a long time (presumably).

Of course Rey worked in an outpost/spaceport thingy so you can assume she’s been exposed to all sorts of different languages, which I guess is why it doesn’t really bother me anyway.

The issue for me is that we now get a sanitized vision of the galaxy where we don’t really see those class divisions between droid and human society that were extremely clear throughout the PT and OT. I’m left wondering if this is because the Clone Wars are a distant memory (and thus people really don’t view droids with suspicion anymore), or whether the filmmakers just forgot.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Pretty sure he used it in ROTJ. I think we see it on screen.

I was about to say this before you said it yourself. It’s a non-issue.

Yeah. And there are moments in all three OT films where Luke responds to R2 without it, but it’s more like someone talking to their dog than someone understanding another language.

Here’s that frame I was talking about.

Unfortunately, it’s in an unreadable script, so I guess we’ll never know what incredibly dirty things R2 is saying.

Han talks to the Treadwell droid without a translator in ESB. It’s not unheard of.

Not ROTJ, but TLJ.

Awesome. I had never noticed that before. You can even see the radio wavebands, ha ha.

After I posted that we went to see TLJ a second time and yeah that stuck out to me lol. Hadn’t really even thought much of it the first time.

Other way around for me, oddly enough.

I’ve been way to hard of Jedi lately. It’s a solid movie. I do still think it’s a big disappointment, but I was watching it earlier and the nostalgia came back and there’s some great stuff in it.

I think it has many flaws - but is still a cool film and enjoyable to watch. Plus…

…NeverarGreat summed it well when he said ‘That moment you realize that the worst OT film has more awesome stuff in it than most other film franchises’.

I didn’t like how lightsaber s looked in The Last Jedi, especially Rey’s. Am I crazy or did anyone else have a problem with this?
