I’m gone from this forum until I see TLJ tomorrow morning, and perhaps not immediately after since I have a cramped day after that point.
(I’m glad a mod already censored some of your posts, guys.)
Anyway, the added Snoke scene reestablishes that they’re about to fire on the Resistance as in the original and I thought it was a huge boost to V2, removing the ‘petty revenge’ aspect and preserving the original film a little bit moreso. I can’t imagine something in TLJ that would retroactively make this movie not need to have that established. (Maybe the crawl mentions that they know the Resistance base’s location or something, but that doesn’t get at the core reason for the scene: they now need to take out SKB for the same reason as in the theatrical, which for my money is a huge help to the flow and plot of this version.)

See you in a day or two, but talk amongst yourselves. But let’s not be too rash about that scene; think carefully about all that it is for.

EDIT: Also, remember that no matter what, SKB explodes into a star. Having it explicitly being made ready to fire again very soon definitively answers the question about how it works: one sun, multiple targets. The Snoke scene is an elegant solution to all of these concerns, within TFA itself, especially compared to the theatrical. If TLJ states they found the Resistance base, that’s only about 20% of the Snoke scene’s benefit. Even then, it doesn’t hurt to let this edit give us the same information as the theatrical.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Having seen TLJ today I would say the Snoke scene can stay. I don’t think there are any contradictions created by the restructuring.

Glad to know, can’t wait for v2.1

Yeah, just got back from The Last Jedi and nothing in v2 seems to break continuity.

Ok, even though those last few posts aren’t spoilers…I’m staying away from here until I’ve seen TLJ in a few days time 😉

Agreed, it all still works perfectly.

TLJ contains no contradictions to your edit whatsoever, but I am eagerly looking forward to TLJ: A GIANT Restructure

Oh, also, regarding my family viewing of TFA:R-V2, everyone loved it. My dad and grandma didn’t notice anything different (not surprising), but seemed to enjoy it more than they have in the past. My brother immediately turned to me when the credits started with a huge grin on his face and said, “Holy shit that was so much better,” which led to my mom going “I knew something was different! Was this one of your cut-ups” (what she calls fanedits) “or is this a new Special Edition?” When I explained to her what was changed she agreed that it was a massive improvement and that she never noticed anything was different at all until Han’s death - the whole Takodana sequence felt “right” and like it had always been that way for her, even though she’s seen the theatrical version about 5 times.

I played off the framerate stuttering during Chewie’s rescue of Rey and Finn as a glitch in the file.

Oh, and I should point out that I haven’t been able to get this to work when burned to a BD50 at all. Anyone successful yet? Did you have to do anything special?

I believe there is a shot in TLJ that looks a lot like one of the TFA:R shots ^_^ and I didn’t see anything contradicting it either.

If you’re talking about what I think you’re talking about, that shot provides a nice sound effect that can be used in the similar TFA:R shot, too!

I will definitely do something like that, perhaps not giant, but something. I was fanediting it in my head as I watched, haha.

If he’s talking about what I think you think he’s talking about I noticed that too and I’m planning on adding a sound like that.

If you’re talking about what I think you’re talking about when talking about what you were talking about to Collipso … 😉 I think there are 3 sound effects in all to choose from.

(and possibly a visual shot or two that could be used in TFA-R when TLJ is released for home use - if preferred, of course)

And if not, than I have no idea what you are talking about 😃

“Are you thinking what I’m thinking, Pinky?”

Yeah, I don’t see why we’d need to lift anything from TLJ itself. Just use a similar sound and keep what we’ve got already.

My stance on revising fan edits.

Author

I don’t think a visual lift is necessary at all, the shot in TFA:R looks perfect and jives well with the similar shot in TLJ.

Audio lift may not be necessary either as I think there are similar SFX already out there that can be used, but it does support the idea of adding such a sound effect to that scene in TFA:R.

Can we stop talking about TLJ in this thread (with the exception of how it impacts this edit)? There are other threads where you can talk about how much you didn’t like the movie. If Hal or Neverar or Ridley wants to do a TLJ edit they will talk about it in the ideas thread and eventually make a new thread when it’s allowed.

Agreed. I was only talking about it in the context of stuff that could possibly be pulled from it for a TFA:R V3, but I tried to keep it spoiler free. Apologies if I crossed that line for any in my posts. I’ll refrain from here on out.

While TLJ doesn’t contradict TFA:Restructured, the TLJ-DLC for Battlefront II kinda does. I’m not saying that we should worry about that, but I think it’s the first canon story to do so.

Doesn’t matter to me at all. Of course, I put Padme on livable bedrest.

About the sound effect for the Destroyer… by the time we cut back to Finn it seems like people are already reacting to the spectacle. If we are to add a sound it’s have to be immediately prior to or during the cut to that shot.
