Han and Jabba at Mos Eisley…God how that was just so forced and out of place

“Why Hello There”

Definitely the young Anakin/Hayden Christensen ghost. It just feels so off place, especially when you haven’t seen the prequels and all off the sudden you just see this creepy teenager alongside Obi-Wan and Yoda.

Only one for the trilogy? Jedi Rocks. I can live with people not thinking Star Wars is the superb trilogy it is. But I can’t live with people hating Star Wars, which is exactly what Jedi Rocks makes people do.

I remember looking around and behind me in the theater during that song to see if it was making anybody else as uncomfortable as I was… A few faces seemed to express what I was feeling, but there were also several dumb grins…

You can only make one change to each and those are the ones you pick?

Yes. As much as I hate Greedo shotting and Hayden as Anakin’s ghost, I hate the rock and the door more. So needless… so pointless. But on the BR, the Greedo scene is at least closer to the original and far less offensive than the 97 version. And over time the changes to ROTJ have become less offensive to me. And unlike many, I like the ANH Jabba scene (I’d been waiting for it since I read the comic and the script back in the 70’s). Same with the lone Biggs scene added. And for TESB, I think the changes only made it better, except for that one stupid line. GL likes comic relief so much and yet he pulled a very funny line that had charm. Even the change to Boba Fett’s voice is less annoying now that it was at first. If I can only change one, I’ll make it the one that annoys me the most.

But given the chance to make my own edit… a lot of the SE changes will go away. The extended troopers in the desert, only Han shoots, A lot of the SE shots in the Yavin battle, back to the original Wampa, apply continuity rules to the Bespin windows (some need to go away) and other SE shots, back to Lapti Nek… but maybe keep Oola’s new scene, back to Sebastian (though now that I think about it, maybe a morph so that he looks younger… Shaw was too old for the role - he was supposed to be younger than Kenobi). A lot of the SE changes I haven’t thought much about yet. I need a copy of the Original cut and the SE that match in quality and color.

I find that answer truly baffling.

Different things bother different people. Continuity mistakes bother me and when an SE change that is nothing but a continuity mistake, it must go. The way I view the SE changes are if I think it improves the story, it stays. If I think it is continuity mistake it goes. It also makes a difference if I am making the edits how much work it takes.

So…just to be clear…you hate the rock more than Greedo shooting first…because the rock breaks continuity while Greedo only completely changes one of the main characters…?

The rock was a poorly implemented, visually discontinuous addition whereas the Greedo shootout is indeed much less objectionable in the 2011 Blu-ray. The fact that they now fire pretty much simultaneously allows for the interpretation that Han intended to shoot first, but Greedo got off a shot. Not a dramatic character difference from the original in my opinion. I can totally understand why a weird rock face which appears in a good half dozen shots would be a more jarring than a split second cut during a shootout.

Ugh, this retcon still bothers me much more than an (admittedly very distracting) rock.

Hey, I’m not saying I’m happy with it, just that I can now blink and miss the change.

The rock doesn’t even bother me. Yes it was stupid and pointless, but it’s just a rock and I honestly don’t even notice it. I think the idea that they added a rock was stupid but I honestly couldn’t point it out to you if I was asked wish one was new. I mean I THINK I know which one it is but it never bothered me enough to compare. This coming from someone who knows every line and every music cue in the film.

As much as I hate the Han shot first issue the Jabba bit is just wrong. No way Jabba goes to see him.

‘Steven Spielberg Will Never Digitally Enhance His Movies Again’…

https://screenrant.com/steven-spielberg-movies-digitally-enhanced-et/

Journalist: ‘You’re such a perfectionist and special effects have changed so much in the last 30 years. Have you ever considered going back like they did with Star Wars? Maybe just putting in some shots in E.T.?’

Steven Spielberg: ‘Well, I got in trouble for doing that. When E.T. was re-released, I actually digitized 5 shots where E.T. went from being a puppet to a digital puppet and I also replaced the gun when the F.B.I. runs up on the van, now they walkie talkies. So there’s a really bad version of E.T. where I took my cue from Star Wars and all of the digital enhancements of A New Hope that George put in, and I went ahead, because the marketing at Universal thought we need something to get an audience back and see the movie so I did a few touch up in the film, and in those days, social media wasn’t as profound as it is today but what was just beginning, you know, erupted a loud, negative voice about how could you ruin our favorite childhood film by taking the guns away and putting walkie-talkies in their hands among other things. So I learned a big lesson and that’s the last time I decided to ever mess with the past. What’s done is done, and um, I’ll never go back and do another movie I’ve made and I have control over to enhance or changes.’

Does he actually know about the small alterations in Raiders and Jaws? Or was that kind of done without his knowledge?

Especially when he mentioned in another interview from a few years back basically talking about the same thing above where he also mentioned he was gonna leave in the wires holding the planes in 1941. Speaking of which did he do that??

I think he does know. He’s certainly powerful enough in the industry and probably keeps a close eye on his films and their releases.

Either it was his idea (little changes) or somebody talked him into it? Whomever it was, thought they could sneak it in without notice.

While my biggest grievances with the OT have been there since 1983, I can at least remove Jedi Rocks and reinsert Lapti Nek in its place. It won’t totally fix the movie, but it still makes that one scene a hell of a lot better. I absolutely love Lapti Nek.

And unlike many, I like the ANH Jabba scene (I’d been waiting for it since I read the comic and the script back in the 70’s). Same with the lone Biggs scene added.

I find it extremely pointless without the context provided by his earlier scene (which I think should’ve been added back as well).

Definitely the “Noooooo” at the end of TRotJ. It kind of spoils the tension of the scene and the fact that Vader throughout the trilogy is portrayed as a badass, it’s just not true to his character if you disregard the end of episode III… which I do.

I’ve never seen this before, probably because there’s actually no “The” in the title.
