Maybe I’m really overthinking it

Yes.

I don’t think it has to change anything if it’s true.

Has there been any news on whether the Knights of Ren are going to be in VIII or if they perished before TFA? Their absence from the teaser was a little jarring since that’s something a lot of people are wondering about.

The traditional Vanity Fair issue will be coming out this week. Here are the four covers:

And here’s the full article:

A couple of things jumped out at me immediately. One is that Luke has the glove from the shot in the trailer with the hand running over the pages of the ancient book, so that’s definitely him. Also, in the text of the article Kelly Marie Tran’s character gets a full name: Rose Tico. As far as I know, we only knew the first name until now.

So glad they gave Carrie her own cover.

Who is that next to Finn?

New character revealed at Celebration, apparently called Rose Tico. They didn’t reveal much, but I guess she’s a Resistance mechanic that gets dragged into whatever mess Finn is in.

Second article from Vanity Fair!

Cover Story: Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Definitive Preview

I love the look of these aliens.

(Also is that a Bothan? He looks a lot like the second version of the Bothans from Legends, only much taller and hairless.)

“[Rose’s] plotline involves a mission behind enemy lines with Boyega’s Finn.” “Rose and Finn’s adventure takes them to, among other places, another Johnson innovation: a glittering casino city called Canto Bight, ‘a Star Wars Monte Carlo–type environment’”

“A prominent officer in the Resistance named Vice Admiral [Amilyn] Holdo, played by Laura Dern.”

She looks more like some kind of socialite in the picture below, so it seems like she’ll join them on this undercover mission.
(It’s a tad weird though, I wouldn’t think that the First Order would have rich people parties like this. Or maybe they’re only indirectly tied to them. All the aliens seem kind of out of place in a First Order setting. Or is that no longer relevant at this point in the canon? I haven’t really read any newEU content from this era.)

Together
Fisher completed her part in Episode VIII late last summer, when principal photography on the film wrapped. “She was having a blast,” said Kennedy. “The minute she finished, she grabbed me and said, ‘I’d better be at the forefront of IX!’ Because Harrison was front and center on VII, and Mark is front and center on VIII. She thought IX would be her movie. And it would have been.”

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Yeah, that part of the article was bittersweet. It would have been awesome to see, but life is full of missed opportunities. we must always go forward.

That photo of Mark and Carrie. I think I have something in my eye.

I’m excited for Benecio’s Little Finger/Githany type character. Characters like that often bring big changes to the conflicts their meddling in and through their actions and rationales certain truths we hold can be challenged. Implying they’re not solely motivated by acquiring power that is.

Chewbacca looks a lot better this time around.

Carrie looks so wonderful. To see her with Mark in costume…sigh.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

I think we’ll all need hankerchiefs when we see her in the movie.

Needs to get closer to classic ESB look. Not so much ROTJ centre parting.

That being said these shoots always look nothing like the end product, seeing them on film always changes things.

That probably means that no major new alien character is going to be introduced. But existing ones (like Maz and above all Chewbacca) will be featured anyway.

“People who alter or destroy works of art and our cultural heritage for profit or as an exercise of power are barbarians”

“In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be “replaced” by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten.” --George Lucas on March 3, 1988

So it seems likely that Snoke will make a non-hologram appearance in TLJ.

It also seems like Laura Dern’s character simply has pink hair in general.
(Based on the Vanity Fair photo, I assumed that it might simply be part of a Canto Bight disguise or something similar.)
