I decided to rewatch the first season, to refresh my memory of events before proceeding to the second. My opinion of the show, which wasn’t all that high to begin with, has fallen.
SPOILERS
- This Ash isn’t the Ash from the movies
He’s a different character in all three films, so this didn’t bother me at all. Only watched the pilot though.
Last night I watched the pilot for the Westworld series. I dunno… Will probably check out the next episode.
Really enjoying the new 4th season of the Fear The Walking Dead - a welcome and refreshing change from The Walking Dead of late.

There were a couple of clinkers in there 😉 though I did enjoy the more character-based stories - a little more believably as to their decisions/actions - though it did result in playing it safe story-wise for a couple of episodes.
I do wonder if it’s to do more with how PKD’s stories have become staples over the years - with lots of homages paid to them in other sci-fi stories - which then dilute PKD’s efforts themselves…
I think this is certainly most of it, and something I remember reflecting on when I watched the first few episodes.
I enjoyed the last season of Black Mirror - but hope Brooker takes a few more chances in the next season - to mix things up and give a little more uncertainty (maybe more shock/surprise value?) - some episodes did feel a bit ‘samey’ as to what had come before.
Yeah, it’s neat that they are all in the same universe, but it also contributes to the feeling of sameness.
I finally watched the rest of the season and what do you know, ooJason is right, it did get better.
Two episodes into the “remixed” Arrested Development season 4. I’m enjoying it much more than the original version. Also it isn’t as strictly chronological as it was implied to be, which is a good thing as I think that would have actually made things more confusing, but it’s still more straightforward and includes more parallel storytelling.
I’m not familiar enough with the original season 4 to notice all the new jokes, but there are some - I particularly liked Ron Howard’s new explanation of how George Michael suddenly looks older.
Oh yeah I forgot all about that!
Yeah, it was supposed to be up tomorrow, but I guess something glitched out and they just went with it, so it’s up now.
The original season 4 is now in the “trailers and more” section, the “remix” has replaced it as the primary season 4 on Netflix.
JEDIT: And yes, I’m watching it on my phone at work. Shut up, it’s a slow day.
I just forgot about it period. It’s been a tough week
Finished Arrested Development Season 4 Remix: Fateful Consequences (yes, that’s actually what it’s called).
I liked it loads better than the original season 4. However, it should be noted that it’s not perfect.
Despite all the above, there’s still the fact that the story wasn’t written this way, and while it’s nice to see it all pieced together semi-chronologically, it also shows that the timeline wasn’t quite as tight as it might have seemed when everything was separated. It also means some jokes and reveals that were spread out across the entire season before now don’t work the same way - FakeBlock is the biggest example of this. It’s still funny, but now it’s funny for a different reason, and every conversation about it that was pre-reveal in the original season 4 is now heavily recontextualized. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, and that’s because - again - the season wasn’t written to be shown this way.
Overally, I still massively prefer the remix to the original season 4. It feels so much more like Arrested Development, and its shortcomings aren’t as severe in my opinion as the original version’s were.
Oh, and Ron Howard is the MVP of the remix - I swear at least 80% of his narration is brand new, and he does a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to putting things in context. And the remix is 100% worth it for the narrator’s new joke about George Michael’s age difference in the first episode and two new “Sound of Silence” gags (one of which is fairly subtle and really caught me off guard).
I’d say it’s required viewing before season 5 shows up in the next couple weeks, even if you liked season 4 the way it was (but especially if you didn’t). As someone on Reddit put it, the original season 4 is a puzzle in pieces, and the remix is the puzzle all put together.
Arrested Development original Season 4 - 6/10
Arrested Development Season 4 Remix - 8/10
(For context - seasons 1 and 2 are 10/10 and season 3 is 9/10 for me.)
Only seen a few episodes so far, and while I’m really enjoying it, I think it suffers from the restructure at least as much as it benefits. While it’s great to see it in the classic AD style, this only invites further comparison with those better earlier seasons. Season 4 is almost best viewed as sort of its own thing, so the non-traditional structure was part of the fun.

Sounds about right. It really depends on how you viewed the original season 4, I think - if you didn’t like it as it was you’ll prefer the remix, but if you liked the original version you’ll probably prefer that.
I mostly didn’t like the original, so the remix really works for me. It’s similarly flawed, but in almost opposite ways.

Home Improvement. I forgot how funny the first few seasons of this were.
^Yes.

DON’T GIVE UP ON THE SUN. DON’T MAKE THE SUN LAUGH AT YOU.
I haven’t seen an episode since 2000 at the latest. I don’t remember finding it terribly funny as a kid, but I don’t think I was able to understand that type of humour back then.
Oh it’s much more funny to me now than it was as a child.

So baffled, I double posted.
FYI, Arrested Development season 5 is coming out on May 29!
Home Improvement was great. Roseanne was my favorite 1990s sitcom by far though.
