I am not aware of any other CED transfers out there, so here you go. This is
really only of interest to the hardcore fans and is more of a curiosity than
anything else.

The 1982 CED features the same version of Star Wars as the 1982 and 1983
laserdiscs. These discs all feature a different pan and scan transfer than all
other home video releases. Other than that, there's nothing extraordinary about
it. That's why I chose Xvid instead of DVD.

There are a few places where the video jumps around and there's some scratches
here and there. Nothing I could do about that.

What the hell has happened to this place? Not at all the same as it used to be years ago...sigh

Without hijacking this thread too much, I cannot agree more.

I hang around here as it is the place to be because I want the best versions possible of the films I saw back in 77, 80 and 83. I do not dislike what Mr Lucas did in 1997 and 2004 but it was not what I first saw. Many people despise, even hate Mr Lucas for doing what he did to those films and that he should have left them alone.

Fast forward to today and this board (ironically called originaltrilogy.com) is packed with people doing their own versions of the OT or PT, doing what Mr Lucas has done but many times worse! To me, they are all raping these films so why is this one any worse.

I do not agree with or like these edits but I do respect individuals rights to do them. However, I do not understand how some people can treat some of these editors like gods yet be so spitefull to others??

The Phantom Menace -Theatrical Version - NTSC DVD- ADYWAN - NOW AVAILABLE
Time

Forget the official DVD, the bootlegs, the extended versions and the countless edits that are out there, if you are going to watch The Phantom Menace on DVD then this is the version that you must watch.

The video quality is very good as you would expect and the bits inserted in from the TB DVB TV broadcast match the rest of the video perfectly.

However, the real gem in this release is that 5.1 soundtrack. It is simply amazing!! I only have a very cheap and nasty surround sound set up at the moment but it has never sounded so good. Even if you hate the film, just shut your eyes and listen!!!

As stated previously, I have waited a long time to see a top quality release of the theatrical version of this film and this release has been well worth the wait.

Firstly, the difference between the theatrical and DVD versions can be seen here... http://www.dvdactive.com/editorial/articles/star-wars-the-changes-part-four.html

It must be over 4 years since I first uploaded the "missing" clips from the TB version for someone to make a theatrical version of TPM using the DVD as a source. That never happened so I am pleased to see this release come out.

Newsgroups! In the UK, any half decent ISP provides them free and has about a weeks retention which is more than enough if you download as something is posted.

Of course, for those people without a decent ISP, you can currently get 180GB of download for $25 which equates to arround $1 to download another fantastic piece of work by ADYWAN. Are those people who are anti-newsgroups saying that this is not worth $1?? Just asking..........

And I still can't figure out if there was a 1985 remix of ROTJ, or if the 1983 theatrical mix was ever released on LD/VHS ...

I think this one will remain a mystery. My best guess is that as ROTJ was made with Digital Sound and the first release on Laserdisc has Digital Sound so I think they may be the same. By the time that ROTJ came out ANH and ESB had already had the 85 Digital Sound treatment.

I would also guess that those theatres that were THX capable in 1983 had a different mix to the one that more basic theatres had but that basic mix is what the Laserdisc got.

PM sent........

If anyone has DarkJedi's ESB Standard Play and ROTJ "First Issues" discs, could you send me a PM and work out a trade or something?  Those are the LDs that have the original theatrical mixes of each of those films (at least, as far as I can tell) and they're not time-compressed like the ANH/ESB Extended Play discs are (the "First Issue" discs of those).

I realised as part of hacking together this mega-thread that the main web-site resource I used to help out with sourcing the Dark Jedi preservations - davisdvd.com -  shut down over 3 years ago. However, using the magic of Google and a site called web.archive.org I found it again and the links are below

http://web.archive.org/web/20060206031246/www.davisdvd.com/misc/ep4.htm

http://web.archive.org/web/20050924185548/www.davisdvd.com/misc/ep5.htm

http://web.archive.org/web/20050924185726/www.davisdvd.com/misc/ep6.htm

So, to answer ChainsawAsh, both the Ep4 and 5 Standard play laserdiscs were the first laserdisc releases that were not time compressed and also the last release which had the original theatrical soundtracks prior to the 1985 DigitalSound re-mastering.

From what I can make out, the Ep6 audio on the First Issue is the same as that used right up to the remastering for the Definitive Collection ie, the First Issue, the Special Widescreen Edition, the Japanese Special Collection and 1992 Pan and Scan

Info & Releases: The Un-Official Dark Jedi Laserdisc Preservation Mega-Thread
Time

Now that Dark Jedi is back among us doing more Star Wars projects, I have been looking back at previous work that he has been involved with. Unfortunately, there has been no single thread with each project having one all of its own. Hence here is a mega-thread listing all current and previous projects with all known links to those threads.

For those not around in 2005 and 2006, Dark Jedi was a very prolific preservationist capturing most if not all different US NTSC Laserdiscs, the Japanese Special Collection as well as a couple of Pan & Scan US NTSC VHS tapes. The full list is below.
