Are there any new Star Wars Books coming out soon? a general book discussion thread
Time

In short, YES.

Only the 6 films, Clone Wars, Rebels, a couple of Insider short stories, one or two Clone Wars comic books (can't remember which ones) and the new novels are now official "canon".

Sorry, but whatever novels you have read since the Zahn trilogy and up to the release of A New Dawn & Tarkin are no longer part of the official timeline and will not be continued.

Ditto for any comic books (except one or two of the later Clone Wars stories) or games!

Here is a random link from last April stating what happened

On the bright side, Chewie did not die and Planet of Twilight never happened!!

OBITUARY - Star Wars Fullscreen/Pan and Scan versions. R.I.P.
Time

A Blu Ray version of the 2011 versions of the OT in Pan and Scan is what I was meaning in my post.

Please forgive my terrible use of the English language, especially with me being English!!!

Joking aside, I did read recently that there were still more people worldwide using 4:3 CRT televisions but I also suspect that those people probably would not have Blu Ray players!! Unless of course they had PS3's which I also read somewhere was the worlds most popular Blu Ray player.

With hindsight, until Fox/Disney/Lucasfilm realise that there is big money to be made with a proper restoration release of the OT, there will only be one release that will ever be seen in my house and I am sure that DJ can guess which version that is!!

Plus the fact that I lost my entire archive collection was lost about three months ago when my 2tb HDD was knocked over as it was spinning means that I have just started again with a very recent release.

Star Wars Blu-ray and DVD Combo Packs. (Please Read 1st post)
Time

As much as I will hate myself for it someday, it looks like I will have to be getting this release, although at 15 quid, it is not that much money to throw away!

The DVD and Blu Ray versions are bad enough as they are but played at PAL speeds, they are even worse!!!

I will also probably end up with the US Combo packs too...

Star Wars Blu-ray and DVD Combo Packs. (Please Read 1st post)
Time

Sorry for going ever-so-slightly off-topic but here in the UK in September, we did not get the Blu Ray/DVD combo pack but instead we got yet another DVD trilogy release.

The question is, are these the 2004 OT, 1999/2002/2005 PT versions re-packaged yet again or the 2011 Blu Ray versions but on DVD??

"Faces" '95 THX Laserdisc Preservation (SW & ESB released. ROTJ incomplete)
Time

It is a pure coincidence but the menu for Star Wars is very similar to the one done by Dark Jedi for his VHS transfer many, many years ago.....

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/russdawson/gtf/dvd/OT/djfacfs.html

I liked that menu way back then and I like the one you have done now.

Info Wanted: Did anyone do a Star Wars Trilogy 1997 Special Edition Pan and Scan VHS Preservation?

The real unfortunate thing is it mentions the capture method he used for the laserdisc widescreen release. Not how the fullscreen VHS tapes were captured.

i did those pages 8 long years ago and this is the first time I have been told obout or noticed that mistake. Ooooops!!!

I know that there were even more changes done in 2004 but the Fullscreen DVD's are well worth getting hold of.

For fans of Fullscreen, my thread here is well worth a read.....

Info: Star Wars Superclass ISD - Executor Set, anyone done a preservation?
Time

I did a quick and dirty VHS to DVD recorder transfer of my (£1.50 off Ebay in 2005!!!!!) Executor Box Set so that I would not need to play the tapes again.

Nothing special but it was handy when I got a request for a handful of comparison shots of all the PAL tapes I have got.

However, the GOUT DVD for all its faults is better than any VHS transfer in my opinion.....

Forty or more incompletes is a lot, no doubt.
Though I suspect hiccups from my Internet service provider to blame, not the news service provider.
(A month from now I'll have new ISP so no worries.)

Something is not right somewhere, I would suspect Althor's news service provider? His posts don't seem to propagate well. I attempted to DL his finished version of the JSC ep4 about a month ago. I'm on astraweb and it was riddled with bad blocks even though it wasn't a very old post. I was unable to repair it with all pars, it wasn't even close. For comparison I was able to get Dark Jedis version of the JSC off astraweb which was a 3 year old post

The keyword in this post is Astraweb!! I have been with them for 10 years now but recently the service has been diabolical to the point of being useless. It is so bad that they stopped answering my emails about broken posts and simply do not seem to give a shit.

To get around this, I have signed up to another block download account and that has managed to get me out of many a hole and completed the downloads that Astraweb failed with. Once my Astraweb account runs dry, I will be binning it completely! The name of the other block account that I now have escapes me for the moment but can find out if anyone is interested.

yet another Custom Edit EP.4
Time

I collected a list of all GOUT synced audio tracks that were taken from various sources and various projects as well as the different video that each of them will sync to.

It is updated up to a year ago but will give you something to work with. I do not have the answers to your questions but am sure that someone else will.

One of the last things I remember adding was a Digital (not analogue) version of the original pre-remix LD release of Star Wars.

OBITUARY - Star Wars Fullscreen/Pan and Scan versions. R.I.P.
Time

There was never a Fullscreen version of the GOUT from the 2006 DVD.

In both the US Widescreen and Fullscreen 2006 DVD releases, the same Bonus (GOUT) DVD was included in both - unless someone else knows any different........

The 2004/2006 Fullscreen DVD's are very strange to watch but are a worthy addition to any obsessive collectors collection.
