Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi (animated series) - a general discussion
Time

I’m really looking forward to see what they come with for this new spin-off series. For me Visions is a quality anthology series - full different animated styles… and I love that none of the stories are ‘canon’ - so any of the stories aren’t restricted or bound by that (with no memberberries or key-jangling cameo appearances or ‘series setups’ etc all to prevalent in certain other GFFA content).

‘The Ninth Jedi’ is probably one of the strongest and well received episodes (and stories) of Visions so far - so it should be interesting to see what the next installment will be in ‘Visions: Volume 3’ - and then with this new animated spinoff series.

If anyone hasn’t yet seen ‘The Ninth Jedi’ episode from Visions Volume 1 (the 5th episode)… you’re in for a treat - something different and fresh in the GFFA; with a striking animation style, stunning direction / cinematography, and quality soundtrack.

Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi - a new animated spin-off series…

Volume 3 Release Date and New Star Wars: Visions Spin-off Series

An exciting announcement about longer-form Visions stories.

www.starwars.com/news/visions-presents-the-ninth-jedi - announcement article at StarWars•com (on 20th April, 2025):-

'Today at Star Wars Celebration Japan, an exciting announcement came out of the Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 panel. After Lucasfilm’s James Waugh revealed a release date for the nine new Star Wars: Visions shorts - October 29, 2025 - he announced an all-new spin-off series of longer stories from Star Wars: Visions.

He invited “The Ninth Jedi” writer and director Kenji Kamiyama to the stage, who thanked the audience for being so supportive and enthusiastic about the adventures of Kara and Juro in “The Ninth Jedi” and the upcoming “Child of Hope.” He then announced that fans will watch Kara’s journey continue to unfold in an all-new spinoff called “Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi.”

“I made a short story called ‘The Ninth Jedi’ during Volume 1,” said Kamiyama. “Director Shiotani is making one more film this time [“Child of Hope”], and it ends with Kara’s departure to look for her father in the first short film.”

“Star Wars: Visions — The Ninth Jedi” features lightsabers that change color depending on one’s Force, according to Kamiyama, and that Kara’s father invented these lightsabers and has been kidnapped.

“What in the world was the reason for such lightsabers,” Kamiyama continues. “I think it will be a story where those secrets will be told.”

Kamiyama concluded by explaining that he will be working in the capacity of supervising director on “Star Wars: Visions Presents — The Ninth Jedi.”’

‘Visions: Volume 3’ airs on 29th October 2025; while the ‘Star Wars: Visions Presents – The Ninth Jedi’ series airs in 2026.

mikeainslie69420 is correct - this isn’t the way to ask (or seemingly demand - as per your post) a project on here…

Best news out of all of Celebration 2025 for me. 👍

“Star Wars: Visions Presents - The Ninth Jedi”… a bit of a mouthful - yet am really hopeful for this new fresh adventure (and loved the first season episode).

29th October seems a long way off for Season 3 - though still very much looking forward to that new season.

Thanks for the reply!

I’m going through the topics, but most of them have only few generic answers, and looks dead (with some mentioning that author is not responding after collecting donations).
Is Discord more active? I’m trying to separate dead projects from alive and i’m not sure how to do that

Some project topics do take place in PMs or private conversations.

There has unfortunately been some leaks in recent times; with newbie members leaking scans online - with some even apparently attempting to pass scans off as their own.

This has understandably annoyed the film print owners, the scanners and project teams, and everyone involved in projects actually looking to preserve some of these quality films. So some are likely quite wary of new members…

Best way I can think of to gain their trust is to become an active / participating member of the forum, attempt to show you’re genuine, offer to help out or offer advice etc with any queries or issues etc, and you’ll soon be included in the various ‘trusted groups/members’ (for want of a better phrase).

Also, a few project creators have left in recent times due to the constant ‘link request’ posts made by newbies filling up the four main Fan Project sections of the site. Not even bothering to look up how things are done on here, how to ask for a project link, the site rules, nor leaving feedback or reviews, discussing the actual projects, or attempting to become members of the community. Just more and more ‘link request’ posts - with some of them indicating they don’t even own the official retail release (and just after ‘free stuff’)…

I have found a Fan Edit / Preservation Project I am interested in - but I don’t know how to get / acquire / download it?

or

❗ The correct way of… how to ask for a fan project …on the OriginalTrilogy•com ❗

PS: it may be worth asking the moderators to move this thread into the Preservation of Other Properties section of the site - it’ll likely get better coverage / more suited in there. 👍

Maul: Shadow Lord
Time

From the announcement article up on StarWars•com: In Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord, the Former Sith Returns

'After the Clone Wars, Maul plots to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire.

During the 20th anniversary Lucasfilm Animation panel at Star Wars Celebration Japan, surprise guest Sam Witwer took the stage to reveal his return to the galaxy as the star of the next animated series — Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord.

Witwer first portrayed Maul in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, later reprising the role in Star Wars Rebels. In a new series set after the events of the final season of The Clone Wars, Maul rises again to lead the underworld factions.

Fans attending the panel in person got an early look at the series’ new animation style with an in-room-only sizzle.

Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord is currently in production and will debut on Disney+ in 2026.’

Well, it is content I suppose. Like Mocata, I feel his character has already had a lot of exposure with much of his life already told over the years after ‘coming back from the dead’ ™… and was instead looking forward to something new and fresh for the GFFA.

I used to really enjoy Adam The Woo’s content back when he did ‘travelling videos’ through quiet / deserted / abandoned streets and ‘backwater’ type towns in the US (he’s also throw in some US history for each street or town, too).

Some of the video and gaming stores occasionally had some leftover stock in them (no good titles of course - though fun to see).

Owner of UK’s only surviving DVD rental store says shop is booming 40 years later | SWNS’:-

www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoV-9eKrW_M - a 3 minute video at the SWNS youtube channel.

The blurb: 'The owner of the UK’s longest surviving DVD rental store is surprised that business is thriving - 40 years after they opened.

Colin Richards, 71, opened TVL Allstar Video in Haverhill, Suffolk, UK in 1984 and it originally started as a company that leased video tapes to other shops.

He then decided to start renting films and the store now has around 8,500 DVDs including Forrest Gump - which has been borrowed at least 2,000 times.’

Thanks for sharing this oojason. 😃

The availability of physical media remains an important resource on many fronts, despite the rise of VOD services. Just last month, Ofcom published a report detailing that four and a half million Brits lack Internet access and another 400,000 have broadband accounts but don’t (know how to?) use them.

Imagine how many of them have become cut off from new releases with the disappearance of DVDs and Blu-rays from supermarkets etc?

Spot on, mate - and also likely explains the mini-resurgence of DVDs and blu-rays (especially in pawn and charity shops).

Brings a warm feeling and some welcome nostalgia when I see those type of videos online too. 👍

Now, the major Hollywood studios are beginning to release their latest movies for sale, directly to the public, sometimes only months after their theatrical release. The Oscar-winning drama Rain Man will hit the shops and the rental stores simultaneously, and will be available for purchase at a fraction of the price of a typical new release. Will the public snap it up? Barry Norman chats to retailers, video distributors, video rental stores and the general public to find out.

Ahhhhh Rain Man! My English teacher had that on VHS and offered to lend it to me as a reward if I completed and submitted my homework. I never did… Oh well. 😄

That’s a very interesting context as to why she owned what was presumably the sell-through release as that would’ve been the landmark period when home video releases became affordable in the UK. Prior to that, I remember the prices hovering around £70 and it’s incredible to reminisce that people actually forked out that amount of money for a film!

Yeah, my nephews and nieces look at me like like I’m mad when I tell them how much videos used to cost in the early 80’s (likely to also boost the blossoming rental market at the time). Then I explain there were multiple video rental stores on the high streets were also quite prevalent - even the petrol stations used to try and muscle in on the rental tape market. That we’d spend 20-30 minutes deciding which film to hire out (if in a large group trying to agree on renting something) from whole walls filled with video tapes - and they look at me like I’ve lost my marbles!

Kudos to your English teacher - I wish mine was like that (though I’d have never got the tape either!) 😃

Accesing fan 35mm film scans
Time

Hi,

Recently I got interested in 35mm scans of movies I already know, or classics that didn’t yet seen.
I was digging a bit, but found only Star Wars (4k77 and the rest) and Terminator 2.
I found few topics here about financing those type of projects, but most of them is really old.

My question would be how I should be looking for those scans?
Should I PM everyone separetly?
I don’t mind paying for that, but also I’m not able to spend hundreds of $ for few scans

Thanks for help!

Welcome to the OT!

The Preservation of Other Properties section is where you’ll find most 35mm scan projects (outside of Star Wars).

There is a useful ❕ An Index Of Projects & Help Thread for Preservation of Other Properties… ❕ thread pinned at the top of that site section. In this Index is a sub-category for 35mm ‘scanning opportunity’ preservation projects; + WIPs…

^ some of the projects featured in there ask for donations to help fund the scanning etc - and some others do not. For those projects that pique your interest… simply read through the thread, follow any instructions given… or if in doubt send a PM to project/thread creator.

Have a good look around the place and you’ll likely soon find any additional info & pointers you may be looking for - and good luck with it. 👍

The Journey of the Millennium Falcon

The blurb: ‘An analysis of the Millennium Falcon as a character in the Original Star Wars Trilogy: The Falcon is much more than a ship. Through its service to the story and themes, it becomes essentially a character of its own, complete with its own arc and identifiable characteristics. We all love the Falcon, so let’s take a closer look at its journey and see if there are any real life takeaways we can glean from it.’

I do not know much in terms of the technicalities of film preservation. Should this release be considered for digital archiving and preservation? Does anyone have any additional information on the release? Thanks to all and may the Force be with you!

Welcome to the OT!

Absolutely mate. It is quite a rare release - and as you’ve listed below… there are some intriguing differences with the other similar releases of the time. A preservation project for this unique set would be most welcome. 👍

Wishing you all the best with it.
