Wallace & Gromit in "The Wrong Trousers" - Original Audio Preservation [Released] — Page 5

They are advertising a stereo track and specifically “remastered audio!,” so it sounds like they may actually have the original dolby track and cleared the audio for “The Wrong Trousers.” Pretty nice if so. They are still cropping “A Close Shave” (to the very real aspect ratio of “1.67:1”), which is quite disappointing.

They are also advertising an upscale of “A Matter of Loaf and Death,” which, given that 25i content isn’t safe for US blu-rays, it’d be ideal to have as a 50hz deinterlaced upscale on UHD, but given that I basically never, ever see native interlaced content presented correctly any more, I kind of doubt it, lol. Unless maybe they made a new master from the project files, which I suppose is a possibility as it’s Aardman supplying these (outside of “Curse of the Were Rabbit,” which is though Universal).

Considering how they made a big deal about restoring the audio in their previous release, but messed it all up, my expectations are not super high. I doubt they will make these 25fps/50i this time around either. I also wonder if Aardman is straight up refusing to offer a master for A Close Shave that isn’t cropped, or if Shout has simply neglected to ask.

We’ll just have to wait until it comes out, of course. I mean, how much better can the shorts look?

It was Shout that promoted that (and, you know, did about as well as they do every time, lol). The UHD masters will at least be new from Aardman as supplied to Shout, which means I suspect if they are advertising new audio and have stereo and 5.1 tracks it will be a least a different go at it. And I also agree it’s why they only get a cropped “A Close Shave” master out of them (though why Aardman want to crop that one and not the other two is a real mystery).

Is there an easy way to get A Matter of Loaf and Death at 25fps? The Lionsgate Blu-Ray may be at the correct audio pitch, but it’s still at 24fps.

So, are the versions of the shorts on BBC iPlayer all at the correct speed and pitch?

Alright, so is anyone able to DM me a link to the version of The Wrong Trousers at the right speed with the original music?

I have made a full twitter thread talking about the difference between the disc 2 blu-ray (2 Entertain) and the new 4k release: https://x.com/HjRobins/status/1862583451062284758.

Super disappointed, especially A Matter of Loaf and Death which looks so horribly AI upscaled. But it has really made me want to do my own AI 4K upscale version which is mainly just to remove compression, and to upgrade it to HDR, because that’s the real kicker, these 4K blu-rays aren’t HDR. They’re just the old sources with filters on them, no hdr, and while larger in filesize actually look more compressed. Also they are all 24fps.

So do we know for a fact that A Grand Day Out is definitely 25 originally? It’s just it was made as a student so I could imagine it being 24. Also there’s a lot of flickering lights in the opening of it, especially in the fridge, would it be blasphemy to sort that out? I’m thinking of averaging the two identical frames.

And are there released 4:3 versions of A Close Shave out there?

Hi! Can I get a PM link for the wrong trousers? I am a massive Wallace and Gromit fan, and have been all my life. I just learned about the audio being changed!

And does anyone have a link to all of the shorts at 25fps? Or give me instructions on how to mux my Blu-ray copy to be 25fps

Your work sounds brilliant!! I’ll send you a pm. I loved Vengeance Most Fowl yesterday!!

Hello, I know this is late, but can anyone provide me a pm or link to the original wrong trousers? I’m watching these again for nostalgia and it would really make my day. Thank you.

Hey all, could I please get a PM with the link to the restored versions and whatever else. I grew up on these, so it would make my day to see the originals in tact.

I’m so late to discovering this, but this is the exact project I’ve been hoping someone could put together!! Been longing for a way to revisit my childhood fave the way I remember it. Any leads on how I could check this out would be amazing if willing to share. Thanks so much in advance!

If you’d like to acquire this project then simply send a PM to Dek Rollins.

In general, simply sending a PM (unless asked otherwise) is the default way of asking for fan projects on here…

❕ I have found a Fan Edit / Preservation I am interested in - but I don’t know how to get / acquire / download it? ❕

Good luck with it. 👍

Hopefully the project threads will soon get back to being discussions about the actual projects themselves - queries, feedback, reviews, exchange of ideas, suggestions for future versions etc - and not be full of endless & unnecessary ‘link request’ posts.

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…
