The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS ** — Page 156

There is nothing wrong with a fan being critical of whatever it is there are passionate about. Being a critical fan base is why this site and its various projects exist, and that is a good thing. However, it is this same passion that leads people to extremes in one direction or the other and that can be frustrating. We have all had conversations with people who swear by the maker that the Prequels are the best movies ever made or with people who hate everything Star Wars and nit pick just to be obnoxious…and my personal philosophy is to be at peace with all men, even the dumbasses, so instead of hammering my own opinion home, I just listen/read their point of view and keep on living. Life is too short and I got sh2t to do.

Jedit: and I am not speaking about anyone in particular, just trying to say that we all have people in our lives who are hard to deal with and instead of devoting to much energy to those interactions, I simply try to move on, in a respectful way. Personally, I really appreciate the discourse as a fan base. Do we take it too far sometimes? Sure, but as I said, it’s because we are passionate, which is a good thing.

Well said, mate.

Not well said. As long as debates are civil, any subject should be open for discussion. I don’t tell anyone else what they should or should not write about, and I expect the same courtesy.

Anchorhead suggested ‘However, maybe give some serious thought to focusing on what you like’ - there’s nowt wrong with that - if you have a problem with that - that’s your problem.

He also said ‘By all means feel free to vent, deconstruct, debate, rage, etc.’ - so what is your problem here?

My problem is with the concept of a moderator giving advice on what people should focus on in their debates. In my opinion the focus should always be on the content, not on the people who write the content, and their motives.

That the seemingly endless repeated and circular negative content in here has become an issue

An issue for whom? For those that don’t agree with that content?

An issue for anyone trying to read through this thread most likely - whether they agree or disagree - whatever their stance. Most topics on the site with seemingly endless repeated and circular negative content will eventually result in a mod trying address the issue therein.

where a moderator has asked members to maybe also give some thought to the things they like about the film - in amongst the ‘free to vent, deconstruct, debate, rage’ - and you give him or me shit for it… says a lot - about you.

What’s that supposed to mean? Moderators can do personal attacks now? I’m advocating for a “discuss the films, and not the fans” policy. I don’t see why that would warrent such a response.

How on earth have you got ‘moderators can make personal attacks now?’ from a moderator has asking members maybe also give some thought to the things they like about the film? And you then giving us shit for it… (Don’t bother replying - it’s rhetorical).

I will stop discussing the subject, since I don’t want to keep going off subject, but this is a serious issue for me.

Probably a very good thing if you’re going to go off on one like this.

‘By all means feel free to vent, deconstruct, debate, rage, etc. I do it occasionally myself. It’s what makes this forum work. However, maybe give some serious thought to focusing on what you like. The stuff we don’t like about the franchise isn’t going away’ - what a terrible thing to suggest. Aye, a serious issue that, indeed…

Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here?

DISCLAIMER: It’s Urban Dictionary. Does not necessarily represent oojason’s usage.

give your head a wobble - means ‘have a re-think’ / step back and think it through again.

soft lad - means ‘mate’. Sometimes a mate who’s having a slow thinking day (like before a morning coffee - or someone having one of those days).

I’ll try and stick to the more generic English vernacular from now on.

But I must address something: I don’t think just ignoring things that I dislike is good or healthy at all. I don’t think I should just ignore whatever I don’t like in the Star Wars franchise because it’s too big of a franchise to please everyone. I see just ignoring what’s happening as some sort of denial. If I did that, I’d look at me the same way I look at someone who’s in an abusive relationship and whenever someone tells them that they’re in an abusive relationship they just don’t want to talk about it and don’t want to believe in it.

I don’t see that as healthy or good and it’s not something I’m willing to do. I’m sorry if I passionately criticize and because I’m passionate about it I won’t give up my negative points of view and what I think of it and how I wish it was better because it’s something I love and it’s important to me to the point where I’m in a website talking about it. And if that’s bothering other people from the forum, more specifically people reading through this thread full of negative thoughts, I’m really sorry.

you guys did it! thank you guys so much! 😄

There is catharthis in exploring what one didn’t like. In reading the objections to the criticisms, I keep thinking of Sally Albrights’s story about why she and Sheldon broke up. The fans of the movie read a lot of criticisms as little more than the equivalent of “where is Sunday?”

The blue elephant in the room.
