A general discussion thread for ‘Star Wars: Ewoks’ - the 1985/86 animated tv series…

a thread nobody wanted, a thread nobody asked for - yet here it is… 😉

The Premise:-

This series recounts the adventures of Ewoks years before the Battle of Endor. Here Wicket W. Warrick is a young Ewok struggling to achieve maturity in his community. This leads to a series of adventures with his friends, Princess Kneessa heir to the chieftain, Latara the aspiring musician and Teebo the animal empath.

Together, they help the adults protect the village from their enemies like Morag the Tulga Witch and their rival species, the Duloks.

Note: The penultimate episode, “Battle for the Sunstar”, shows the Ewok heroes leaving the forest moon’s surface when they go aboard an Imperial Star Destroyer that has traveled to their system. An Imperial scientist attempts to destroy the Emperor, whose shuttle makes an appearance. The episode was re-aired as the series finale.

'Exciting ‘Star Wars’ additions coming to Disney+ in April:-

https://attractionsmagazine.com/exciting-star-wars-additions-coming-disney-april

^ 'April is set to be an exciting month for Disney+ subscribers, as many formerly out-of-print “Star Wars” series and movies are being added to the streaming service.

Starting Friday, April 2, fans of a galaxy far, far away will be able to dive into classic (and non-canon) entries from the past:

“Caravan of Courage”
“Ewoks: The Battle for Endor”
“Star Wars: Clone Wars – Volume I”
“Star Wars: Clone Wars – Volume II”
Star Wars: Ewoks” (Seasons 1-2)

Also being added that same day is “The Story of the Faithful Wookiee,” better known as the animated section of the 1978 made-for-TV-film, “The Star Wars Holiday Special” – featuring the first appearance of bounty hunter Boba Fett.’

👍

A little surprising they are not showing the ‘Star Wars: Droids’ animated series on Disney+ too.

Though overall it is some good news for the fans of the now ‘Legends’ / ‘no longer canon’ Star Wars content.

I was also surprised to see that Droids was not on that list , especially as some of those who worked on the OT had a hand in making that show ;Ben Burtt , Joe Johnston etc . Still cool to see them acknowledge that older material .I hope it leads to them releasing more ( like Droids )and opens up a possibility of adapting " legends " material in animation ala the DC animated universe or even live action .

Definitely would like to watch it! I never had the chance to watch the Ewoks cartoon. I remember getting to choose as a kid of receiving the VHS of it or Droids at the video store. I went with Droids and remember having a lot of fun with it.

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

“Star Vintage Wars”

Why do Star Wars logos always do that? I guess as an homage to the original ESB logo? 🤔
Not sure why Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars is being called ‘vintage’ though…

I think it looks and sounds better than “Legends” status they use for the old Expanded Universe.

If the unaltered original trilogy shows up, I think this is where we’ll see it.

In vintage quality? 😕

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

I don’t think they’d just stream the GOUT. At least I hope not.

I recorded a lot of Ewoks episodes on an old VHS back in the day. I watched that tape over and over as a kid. I probably still have it in a box somewhere. I must have only recorded the first season because I’ve never seen any of these season 2 episodes. I’d definitely remember that new intro. I have no memory of it.

Anyone here watched this? If so, what’s the verdict preservation-wise? Is there anything edited, is the quality good (colors, DNR etc.)?

It looks to be an SD upscale.

Cool, but I meant preservation-wise. Is the whole show now preserved in its original format faithfully or has it been tinkered? Ie. is it safe now to hold this as the standard or is there any need for VHS or DVD efforts?

I haven’t gone through it myself as I’m not interested in streaming services, I’ve just taken a peek using a friend’s. Reports seem to be that all the episodes are intact, but it’d take someone extremely knowledgeable about the show to comb through it. It hasn’t had a “proper” release (butchered DVD notwithstanding) since VHS so 99.9% of people aren’t going to notice anything.

Hopefully someone on this forum or a similar one undertakes it soon so we can get an answer. I’m actually a bit surprised we don’t have one yet, as far as I know anyway.
