The closer we get to a legal Blu-ray release, the more I’m anticipating fan-edits with an actual crawl. Considering the film opens on a still frame in space, you could easily do a pan down to it from a starfield (combined in Photoshop). Splice in the 5.1 theme from TFA (as well as opening visuals) and you’re set.
…also that Darth Vader scene still holds up very nicely. 10/10.

You may as well quit waiting for deleted scenes now.
www.digitalspy.com/movies/star-wars/news/a824236/rogue-one-special-edition-not-happening
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be out on DVD and Blu-ray at the beginning of April, and although it will have plenty of bonus features, there won’t be any deleted scenes among them.
And if you were holding out for a second, special edition release – possibly containing some of the footage that didn’t make it into the final cut – you’re likely to be disappointed.
“There’s no plans right now,” said Gareth Edwards when Digital Spy asked about possible alternate releases in the pipeline.
“That’s what I’ve heard. There’s nothing down the line, no.”
Star Wars: The Force Awakens – which was initially released on DVD and Blu-ray in April 2016 – also received a 3D version in October. That second release featured even more deleted scenes, as well as a director’s commentary from JJ Abrams.
Rogue One will be available in 3D from the get go, and it looks like, along with those fabled deleted scenes, it will be missing a director’s commentary.
The expectation surrounding the deleted scenes has been greater than usual due to the large amount of footage in Rogue One’s trailers that never made it into the final cut.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will arrive on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download on April 10.

I can’t understand why they were so hell bent on giving a reason we don’t see these people during the OT. They could be anywhere! We hardly see anything of the galaxy in the OT. It’s a very small, personal story compared to the galaxy wide civil war going on.
I don’t mind that the heroes in R1 all die fighting, but all the other options I’ve heard that they were considering sound awful. And I also wouldn’t have minded if there were a few survivors we never see again.
The only one that can really be considered high art is ESB and that’s not to say that SW and TFA aren’t great films but if we compare those films to some of the all time greats they won’t hold up nearly as well as ESB would. Then if we bring Rogue1 and ROTJ into the fold any kind of argument for why those are as great as ESB (or the other all time greats) would wither and die very swiftly.
I disagree. The overall writing in Empire may be better than in Star Wars, but stylistically Empire isn’t nearly as bold as its predecessor. In my opinion, the cinematography in Star Wars is unmatched by any other movie in the franchise.
Ceci n’est pas une signature.

First, what is this “high art” crap anyway? Seem like some irrelevant snobbish thing that does not have any connection to the reality.
When it comes to comparison to other great films, I think ANH is the only one that can stand alone and be compared. Yes, ESB has more complex story and a bit better execution, but its story is completely dependant on the other two films and it builds on many concepts introduced in the original. Not to mention ANH was by far more culturally impactful and historically significant.
and that’s not to say that SW and TFA aren’t great films
Don’t embarrass yourself. It is silly to say TFA is good film, but this is getting beyond ridiculous.

That’s fine and all but if we compare the movies in all aspects of film making and storytelling Empire towers over STAR WARS in my opinion as all that other stuff you’re talking about has no bearing on how I view a film. I rate movies solely on the content.

I think cinematography (and style in general) only goes so far when we’re talking about all time greats. In my opinion strong writing in terms of plot and characters trumps all.

You mean all other stuff I am talking about, like story, has no bearing on how you view the film? If you rate solely on the content in the individual film, ESB is quite weak story-wise. The story is incomplete in the beginning and more-so in the end.

I’m not saying to act as if STAR WARS didn’t exist while watching/rating ESB; I’m just judging the competency of the writing. When I’m discussing the quality of two movies in the same series I don’t have preconceived notions about other entries in the Saga because that’s just weird.

No one cares that you don’t like TFA. A lot of people care that most of your posts consist of “TFA is a crap.”
I agree with Density’s posts on the last page, but I wasn’t making the same argument as him. I don’t care about high art films or products or anything of the sort. I care about good movies, quality filmmaking. My argument was directed towards the audience, not the filmmakers. It’s a sad reflection on society when an entire generation of people don’t bother to scrutinize the quality or craftsmanship of the entertainment they consume–that they can be distracted by, and only really care to seek out…those good old things of yore.
That’s one of the parody points RLM hit on in their recent shorts around the time R1 came out.
“I know DARTH VADER”

A **** film gets made with all kinds of junk plotholes, rehashes, totally illogical things going on, no character development, etc. etc. But a lot of people gobble it up because it’s familiar. They recognize it. The Beauty and the Beast example I gave was a great one, because in the original you have some voice actors who were gifted singers. They either never starred in another movie, or they were obscure TV actors, but boy could they sing. And that’s what the film called for.
Then in this new movie, you have a lot of actors who simply cannot sing. But they are names! People recognize them from this other movie they saw…or that other movie they liked. It’s without a doubt a corporate decision, and whoever said it wasn’t, has no clue what they are talking about. Lucasfilm is not completely autonomous from Disney. Of course they have a lot of latitude and they are not going to be micromanaged, but when push comes to shove if the Disney execs give them marching orders then you better believe they follow those orders or they would be out of a job.

If you compare within the series that is fine. But that is not what we are talking about here. If you compare a film to other great films you have to do it individually.

Some character development but not enough for most of the characters.

That would be sad if it was what was actually happening.

So the most important part of the film (i.e. story) is not part of your “quality”? And unless you can provide me an objective measure to define quality (you cannot), your argument fails in its basics.
