They have totally lost it now! (OT 2004 DVD)

Now if this don´t top all silly things!

This is absolutely mindbendingly stupid from the folks at Lucasfilm. This following text is actually from the Star Wars Shop which I guess is a part of the official Lucasfilm operation. Here we can see sales-text for the upcoming DVD editions and they ain´t beating around the bush here, they just about spoil EVERY big story element/surprise of the OT. Are they expecting ONLY people who´ve already seen the OT and the PT to buy this or what, don´t they expect new audiences to (rightly) begin their Star Wars experience by watching the OT since that keeps the most surprising story elements intact?? This is so incredibly stupid! This just goes to show that Mr.Lucas has TOTALLY lost the plot, made a mess of the whole storyarc and wants everybody to watch the films in the utterly boring numerical order and thus containing absolutely no surprises and interesting plot twists! You have to be told everything at least twice and shown everything right away. Oh how the mighty have fallen!

This is it:

"This four disc DVD features new commentary by George Lucas and cast and crew members, including director Irvin Kershner, actress Carrie Fisher, sound designer Ben Burtt and Industrial Light & Magic’s Dennis Muren. Disc 1, Episode IV A New Hope: Eighteen years later, Luke Skywalker, a young farmboy on Tatooine, is thrust into the struggle of the Rebel Alliance when he meets Obi-Wan Kenobi, who has lived for years in seclusion on the desert planet. Obi-Wan begins Luke’s Jedi training as Luke joins him on a daring mission to rescue the beautiful Rebel leader Princess Leia from the clutches of the evil Empire. Although Obi-Wan sacrifices himself in a lightsaber duel with Darth Vader, his former apprentice, Luke proves that the Force is with him by destroying the Empire’s dreaded Death Star."

“Disc 2, Episode V The Empire Strikes Back: Three years later Imperial forces continue to pursue the Rebels. After the Rebellion’s defeat on the ice planet Hoth, Luke journeys to the planet Dagobah to train with Jedi Master Yoda, who has lived in hiding since the fall of the Republic. In an attempt to convert Luke to the dark side, Darth Vader lures young Skywalker into a trap in the Cloud City of Bespin. In the midst of a fierce lightsaber duel with the Sith Lord, Luke faces the startling revelation that the evil Vader is in fact his father, Anakin Skywalker.

“Disc 3, Episode VI Return of the Jedi: In the epic conclusion of the saga, the Empire prepares to crush the Rebellion with a more powerful Death Star while the Rebel fleet mounts a massive attack on the space station. Luke Skywalker confronts his father Darth Vader in a final climactic duel before the evil Emperor. In the last second, Vader makes a momentous choice: he destroys the Emperor and saves his son. The Empire is finally defeated, the Sith are destroyed, and Anakin Skywalker is thus redeemed. At long last, freedom is restored to the galaxy.

Can u believe this shit?

Spoilers aplenty there m8

Though I suppose it confirms the time-frames between certain films - and the gap between Ep3 and Ep4. (never knew exactly how much time had passed between them...just a rough guess) Did notice no timeframe for between ESB and ROTJ - isn't that a hotly debated subject on certain SW boards?

Although the 18 year gap works well for Luke, 20 years is a better fit for Leia. I suppose she's just beyond her years being raised in the royal house of Alderaan as well as serving with Bail in the Senate.

The period between ANH and ESB was of most interest to me, as I'd heard anything from 2-5 years. And I thought the ESB/RotJ gap was confirmed as 1 year in Shadows of the Empire?

From what I have read in various guide and reference books, there is a 1 year gap between TESB and ROTJ.

How old does this information make Anakin/Vader in ROTJ? 42? 43?

Jesus H Christ, talk about spoilers! How can they do that? There are millions of 4 year-olds who haven't seen this yet!

Anakin looked like he was ready to collect his pension when he apeared in Jedi Spirit form in RoTJ - another case of GL changing the OT to fit the PT more to cover his lack of foresight or maths...

The character ages/timeline of Star Wars have always bugged me. I am particularly baffled by Lucas' explaination of the crappy swordfight in Star Wars. He says it's because Vader was mostly machine and Obi Wan an old man. Well, Qui Gon was in his late 50s or early 60s, and he handled a saber well enough. Same can be said of Dooku. Going by the current timeline, Obi Wan is 56 at the time of Star Wars, so hardly past in in Jedi terms, but he looks a hell of a lot older.

Making Anakin 9 in TPM was also a huge mistake. Not just because the character was too young to be effective, but because his future love interest was almost 5 years older. I don't know many 24 year old Senators who'd fall for a bratty, whiney 20 year old boy (he must have been almost 10 in TPM, and Padme just turned 14). As for a planet 'electing' a 14 year old girl as queen...

Also, how long did Luke spend on Degobah? The film makes it seem like days, but surely he couldn't have become that good in such a short space of time. I've also often wondered how long it took the Falcon to get from Anoat to Bespin on sub-light drive. Then again, these are only films, and perhaps I think too much. Still, it would be nice if Lucas could at least attempt a bit of continuity. On that note, why the hell did it take 20 odd years to build the first Death Star, and less than 5 to build the bigger, more powerful second?

Maybe we should have Lucas explain to us what "Star Wars" means. I still not old enuff to knows what he done mean. Is it like some kinda big ol' battle between them thar Hollyweird types?

As far as I know, Luke was in Dagobah for a short time, a couple of days. Perhaps Yoda was one hell of a teacher. And Luke was already in good shape, he became stronger after ANH.

Actually, you must remember that Han flew to Bespin on sublight drive, which would take months.

Luke was probably on dagohba for months.

Yeah, I've heard debate about the time spent on Degobah and time spent travelling to Bespin. It can really go either way. You would think that the Degobah training would take a while even if Luke didn't stay the whole time. However, you would think that the trip to Bespin would be relatively brief considering Han is looking for someplace near to where they are in space to hide out from the Empire. But it's really up to personal interpretation since we have no way of confirming one way or the other.

I once asked this very question of the Jedi Council on the Star Wars site, but they prefer to answer asinine questions such as "What made Yoda crazy"...

"What makes Yoda crazy?"

WTF?

I'll tell you what makes Yoda crazy... stupid questions like that one. And fudging around with the original movies that made him an intergalactic star. He doesn't appreciate that one either.

This is why I shifted the timelines for my edits quite a bit.

Anakin's age
EP I - Anakin is 10
EP II - 10 Years later - Anakin is 20
EP III - 7 years later - Anakin is 27
EP IV - Twenty years later - Anakin is 47
EP V - Five years later - Anakin is 52
EP VI - A year or so later - Anakin is 53

I could buy, if Anakin had such a rough life that Shaw's Anakin was in his fifties, at least moreso than being 43...

Well, actually it's pretty commonplace nowadays to have heavy spoilers in the back-of-the-dvd-case texts as well as in the dvd-menus. Just take 'Equilibrium' or 'Matrix Revolutions' as an example, I'm sure you can find plenty of dvds that give away important plot turns/surprises on the back of the case or within the menu.

Although I have to say, that Lucas Marketing really topped everything by minimalistically mentioning spoilers-only on the dvd case. Congrats for another #1 shitlist award to Lucas Marketing.

lol good answer Bossk...
we should have you be in charge of our own Jedi Council on this site...

first question!!!
what does Lucas have to take classic movies such as, oh i dunno, Star Wars and flood it with meaningless changes that only excite prepubesant fan boys who one day dream of growing their own neck like George Lucas?
