Revenge of the Sith: Blue Harvest Cut (Released)

Using the New Canon Cut by NFBisms, I’ve been working on a fan edit that intercuts with Ahsoka’s journey during the Siege of Mandalore.

I know that a person with the Reddit user name of Numeral Joker made a 4.5-hour cut of more or less the same thing.

With all due respect to his efforts, I feel that is an excessive amount of fan service.

In my cut, I felt that more or less three hours is a good runtime; I did my best to make sure each scene helps the story to flow, rather than simply trying to include every single little thing that allegedly happened during the events of ROTS.

Also, I re-wrote the opening text crawl and made it light blue, hence the title Blue Harvest Cut.

EDIT:

You may PM me for a link.

Enjoy!

Okay.

Kind of an odd rule for my tastes, but duly noted.

I edited my OP.

It’s to prevent people without accounts from accessing the files. If too many people could download these edits, it would draw too much attention to our community, and possibly result in legal action from Disney.

That makes sense to me now.

Thank you for coming to my fan edit thread!

Before I forget, I would also like to thank IlFanEditore.

I borrowed the animated Original Trilogy dot com logo from him, as well as the Aurebesh disclaimer about this being a fan edit.

No need., I didn’t make any of those, lol.
The OT intro was from somewhere around this site. The disclaimer was from Hal’s edits, if I remember correctly.

Italian faneditor.

EDITS LIST:
Episode IV - THE HEIR OF SKYWALKER. Episode VI - RETURN OF THE JEDI RENEWED. DYAD IN THE FORCE (3-into-1 sequels).
PM me for links if interested.

Oh, I see.

I remember when I first saw those in your ROTJ edit, and they looked so professional, it made me want to watch it all the way through!

So, I want to say that I really enjoyed this edit! I felt that it flowed very well and that your style of editing did well to strengthen the story beats of both Revenge of the Sith and the Siege of Mandalore.

In terms of criticisms, there’s really not much to say. NFBisms’ edit is solid, and your insertions work well. I do think you might want work on the transitions between RotS and TCW by including some wipes or something instead of hard cuts, and I find that RotS was much louder than the TCW footage so the audio transitions were jarring as well. I also think the crawl text might need revising, and the post-credits Vader scene could probably be bumped up closer to the end of the credits; a minute between is quite a long time.

This is a really strong start and I think you have something great on your hands!

A friend of mine told me the opposite, so I guess I must have compensated too much for that. I’ll see what I can do.

As for the hard cuts as opposed to wipes, I simply felt that it helped to truly emphasize that both Anakin and Ahsoka’s journeys are happening more or less simultaneously.

Hm. Maybe I could still try more wipes in some places.

What might you recommend for the crawl text?

I see.

In a fan edit of AOTC, I did something I think that you’re suggesting: Shortly after the credits started, I showed a quick intro of Ahsoka Tano, which ended right when Anakin was baffled about getting an apprentice. Maybe I can do something similar, albeit with a somber tone.

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that.

Honestly, I’ve been editing and re-editing this off and on for the past three months, almost since the Corona virus pandemic started.

You can almost say I’m weary of this by now, yet I also enjoy appreciating this beautiful tragedy more and more.

Maybe with your critiques, I can continue to make this even better!

With all due respect to his efforts, I feel that is an excessive amount of fan service.

The whole concept of intercutting RotS and the Siege of Mandalore is already a lot of fanservice.

I can understand that point of view.

However, I deleted a handful of scenes that I’d felt were slowing down the story of ROTS; without the SoM scenes, it would only be an hour and a half.

EDIT:

For me, this fan edit isn’t really fan service as much as it is showing a more complete story, where each half of the story informs the other, especially in the scene where Ahsoka does some quick research on Fives that uncovers the mystery behind Order 66.

JKMaxx suggested revising the text crawl, so I’ve been playing with it some more.

Just to get this out of the way, I’m changing episode Roman Numerals to Arabic Numerals; as my dad once said, Roman Numerals are a lost ark.

INTRO CRAWL:

Episode 3

REVENGE OF THE SITH

Over three years, the Galactic Republic has been at war with the Confederacy of Independent Systems; countless lives have been lost on thousands of worlds.

Although Ahsoka Tano walked away from the Jedi Order, she now joins forces with Mandalorian warriors and Clone Troopers of Anakin Skywalker to capture Maul.

In a stunning move, Separatist forces have ambushed Coruscant and abducted the Supreme Chancellor; two Jedi Knights lead a mission to rescue him and reclaim peace for a crumbling Republic.

PAN DOWN.

Okay, I’m just going to re-iterate a few main notes to make sure I’m tracking everything for my adjustments and improvements; for the non-veterans, “tracking” is a word used for paying attention, etc.

Adjust the volume so the live-action and animated segments are about as loud as the other; that may be tricky, but I will sure do my best.

Add in wipes between the live-action and animated segments; I will do so MOST of the time, but when the action really picks up, like between the duel between Maul and Ahsoka and the fight between Grievous and Obi-Wan, I’ll intercut more quickly. Also, in certain scenes, I feel it’s appropriate to slowly fade in and slowly fade to black.

Revise the opening crawl. This is what my new draft says:

Episode 3

Please excuse all my extra posts with my after-thoughts, but while re-editing, I noticed a mistake on my part, and I humbly take note of it here.

In the edit that I just published, it seems I forgot to include the scene where Maul uses the Force to sabotage the hyperdrive of the Venator-class Star Destroyer that was transporting Ahsoka Tano and 332nd Company.

My new cut will include that sequence, for sure.

Based on feedback in this thread, I’ve now uploaded a new version of my fan edit.

After facing technical difficulties, I decided to upload it in two parts, about 1.5 hours each.

On my end, I am now 100 percent satisfied with my fan edit, however jaded I happen to be from editing it again and again and again and again and again.

Please PM me if you’d like to have the two links.

As always, may the Force be with you!

Anyone has this edit and can send it my way? DZ seems to be busy with RL and did not answer my PM.
