Ranking the Star Wars films — Page 149

First of all, expecting that people can correctly transmit what they’re trying to say without needing to repeat or clarify a few points is already ableist, not everyone can do it in one try, and not every mind works the same way.

And second, I prefer to be the kind of person that considers something ableist even if it isn’t, since the world in which we live is already ableist AF (so, at best, it may happen that we err on our analysis but our intentions are in the good place and we probably won’t hurt anyone), rather than the kind of person who makes jokes about some discussions about ableism in Star Wars (“lulz K2 is disabled”, which was a metaphor, not an actual description of the character) and then uses his disabled daughter to appoint himself as an authority on ableism.

As I already said on my previous comments, I knew the reaction would be hostile and negative. And that’s what has happened. So I’ll stop posting in this thread. Good day to all of you.

This is ridiculous. How can I be the authority on ableism when I don’t use the word twelve times per post?

The quality of Rogue One has only gone down for me. The lifeless characters and boring story direction they took sours the experience of an otherwise visually impressive film.

That’s funny because I had the exact opposite reaction. In theaters I couldn’t remember anyone’s name and didn’t find anything compelling about anyone other than Chirrut, Baze, and sort of Krennic. Since then I’ve grown much more attached to the other characters.

I like RO more and more each time I see it. And I loved it in the theater. TFA was the same way at first, though it found a peak and leveled out a little below that peak. My assessment of TLJ hasn’t changed with subsequent viewings.

What on earth?

Thread is temp-locked. It’ll be re-opened soon (it is now unlocked).

Some posts have been deleted - others will likely follow too.

Do not carry on the conversation in here elsewhere on the site - thank you.

Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves? Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? And say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

Yet you posted your comments anyway. Back off sooner next time and leave people’s family out of the baiting. These last four pages are a perfect example of the noise that has made this discussion such a mess.

The last two and a half pages demonstrates how not to debate this topic.

Please heed Anchorhead’s post above.

The thread is now unlocked. Do not continue the aforementioned ‘debate’ - thank you.

We start afresh…

And also, a reminder about this thread in general:-

This is just a ranking thread - it means little at the end of the day; some films are liked more than others, for what could be considered the ‘strangest’ or personal of reasons - and we know from posting on here we each have our quirks, eccentricities and somewhat different views. And opinions, even previously staunch ones, may change over time…

Some people may only actually give a stuff about 5/6 films and just include others for the sake of being completionist. Some may not be able recall their own preferred ranking of the films the day after…

This all really isn’t worth getting worked up over - please stop with the circular and repetitive arguments that your opinion is right and someone else’s is wrong, or that someone should rank film X over film Y. It’s tiresome and come a point where members are reluctant to post in here for getting ridiculed or told they are ‘wrong’.

By all means ask why someone feels why film X is over film Y - yet do it with some respect and civility - we may even learn something…

Some people love their first ever car (which may be a piece of shite to many others), some have a special place for their first crush or love (NOT still being kept in a dungeon), or the first hi-fi they saved up for with pocket money or from their 1st wage etc. You don’t ridicule them for it - so please don’t have a pop at someone for liking The Holiday Special over Empire etc…

“I have to say that I felt George’s group of six films had more innovative visual imagination, and this film was more of a retrenchment to things you had seen before and characters you had seen before, and it took a few baby steps forward with new characters.” - James Cameron about Episode VII.
