That is sad, but true. I do have a smartphone, but I do not use it constantly throughout the day. It’s great to have, but use it wisely. However, a lot of people will waste their time on it, while “working”.

Not just at work mate - in the pub or restaurant, out shopping, at the game, people just chilling out, or in the park etc - seems many people are constantly on them checking in for social media updates etc, instead of disconnecting, looking up and around, and living a life.
Whatever floats their boats, I suppose…

I’m getting rid of my one and only smartphone as soon as it stops working. I’ve had it since 2013, when it goes I’m getting a flip phone. Can’t stand going to social events to find everyone on their phone, taking videos or pictures or whatever, instead of just having a normal conversation.
At the Oscars, there were shots of people holding up their phones for video, which I found ridiculous. It’s a TELEVISED EVENT, don’t worry, it’s being recorded professionally. Nothing you do will look any better. What’s the point?
Ugh, I hate these things.

It’s not about looking better, it’s about looking different. How you experienced it.
When I go to sporting events I take a few pictures and a few videos because I want to look back on it from my vantage point, not from a network camera’s viewpoint.

May I suggest something akin to this for consideration?:-

Re the Oscars, a bit like other events such as sports - when asked by a friend or family member ‘what was it like at…?’ then can replay ‘I don’t know, no-one does - we were all too busy filming it on our mobiles (in amongst national tv coverage…) would you like to see my handheld poorly lit, low angle, wobbly, terrible audio, with backs of people’s heads and hands with their mobiles in front of me, recording of it?’
😉

Just because you’re filming a few moments doesn’t mean you’re filming the whole time.

Indeed, sometimes whilst resting the outstretched camera-holding arm they’ll watch the video back on their social media upload - with the event still ongoing, or check in online to compare with other videos of it.
Some people even have to stop filming and manually adjust the selfie-stick between shots 😉
to keep on topic, here’s a pic… 😃

There’s all kinds of people. I’m not saying everyone is responsible like I am.
Oojason: Yes, I do agree that people use it absolutely everywhere, I just gave work as an example. Some people can’t refrain themselves from using their phones. Heck, I don’t understand the need to use a smartphone while in the bathroom. It’s as if the world will crumble if they don’t check every single tweet and tumblr post at every solitary second.
It’s convenient if you want to take a few pictures and video clips during a sporting event, concert, show. Just as long as you’re not filming the entire time. I’ve cut back on taking pictures and video during concerts. It gives me something to remember the evening, and to use as a wallpaper on my phone. Obviously, it should be secondary, or else why go see a live concert, if you’re going to spend all your time looking at your phone.
^ aye mate - it’s like they have a withdrawal-type process if they go without for any length of time without checking in 😃
Absolutely on the sport/concert thing - take a couple before, at the start and/or interval etc - it’s the people who spend more time looking at the phone than what is going on that really make me laugh.
My old man rant endeth 😉

There are reasons why I consider myself something of a moderate neo-Luddite.
The new skyscraper bunny.
The only relevant things in that skyscraper of pics are the “before smartphones/after smartphones” and the George Lucas images. The rest is “I’m a fat, out of touch loser and I’ll blame it on the kids”.
Don’t be that guy.
This is coming from a middle aged man. If you don’t have presents and people around on your birthday, it’s not the internets fault.
You kids get off of my Apple ][+ !
Ah, remember the days when obesity was the biggest issue in America? Not too long ago. Did we stop getting fat or did we just say fuck it?
fuck it
Sorry lads - just thought it was funny and worth a post given the previous conversation - wasn’t meant to come across as much else.

We’re just mad because that post is trying to unseat the bunny.

Yes, they were funny, but also so very true.
