Personal Opinions on the Nature of the Force

With all the discussion going on about the Force at adywan's lastest thread, I thought it would be interesting to create a thread where everyone could talk about their own opinions on what the Force is, its nature, how it operates, how living beings relate to it, etc.

Here's my own view on the Force ...

Midi-chlorians do not create or channel the Force; they are parasites which feed off the Force energy of multi-cellular lifeforms, secreting a mutagenic substance which alters the DNA of their hosts to make them dependent on their presence for survival. The stronger one is in the Force, the more midi-chlorians flock to their cells for nourishment.

The various components of one's DNA determine how one is tuned into the Force, and how Force-sensitive one is; Force-sensitivity isn't determined by specific genes.

The Force is more than light and dark - it is an entire spectrum.

All sentients retain their personalities when they die and become one with the Force. Only trained Force users, however, can learn how to manifest themselves and communicate with mortals in the material realm.

Most gods, angels, demons, etc. are sentient manifestations of the Force or former mortals who have managed to attain god-like status after becoming one with the Force.

The Force itself is only a subset of something larger - a pantheistic/panentheistic All which creates and permeates every universe in existence.

^None of that IMO.

It's a "Mystical energy field", end of discussion! ;-)

I don't care to over-analyze it, that was where the PT went wrong.

I'm a devout athiest but I can understand that God is just well.. God.

If you try to explain God you'll probably end up like Alan Partridge "God is, a... erm... a gas".

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

What it should be :

A mystical energy field created by life that anyone with the right training can tap directly into.

What it became :

A mystical energy field that you need microbes to tune into it with which are passed on to the next generation via sex. You don't need training but it helps.

And if you come from another galaxy or are in proximity to alien ferret things it doesn't work.

The Force is a mystical energy field that all living things have, and can tap into. However, the Force can choose a particular person or family, and those individuals are destined to change the galaxy.

I believe that anyone could be trained to use the Force, but the Force obeys its own rules, so if that person was not chosen by the Force, progress would be more difficult.

Midichlorians are believed by the Jedi to be a good indication of whether a person is chosen by the Force, but even they are unsure of what a high midichlorian count actually means, and if a teacher of the Force is in tune with a person, they can better determine the person's potential than any blood reading.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

Newton had an opinion on the force in Star Wars? I'm astounded!

Newton was just an alien dude David Bowie played.

What if....

The only way to achieve true balance to the Force is to balance light and dark?

The Jedi represent order.  If you live by their code you are not allowed to have contact with your relatives, fall in love, have a family of your own, or develop any kind of emotional connection that may sway your actions.  It’s smothering.

The Sith represent chaos.  If you live by their code you should act on your emotions, put yourself first, and ultimately betray your parental/mentor figure.  It’s unsustainable.

These are simply opposite ends of a spectrum.

The PT ended with the dark side outweighing the light (following defeat of the Jedi).

The OT ended with the light side outweighing the dark (following defeat of the Sith).

Maybe the ST will end with a true balance between the two (akin to the truce during the Old Repulic era).

I thought the balance thing was purely down to numbers.

When Anakin joins the Jedi there are hundreds maybe thousands of Jedi but only two Sith (a master and an apprentice).

This sets in motion a chain of events where there are only two Jedi (a master and an apprentice) to balance out the Sith.

Luke becomes an a apprentice Jedi Vader kills Ben.

When Yoda dies Vader kills Palpatine.

This leaves Luke an apprentice and Anakin a Master.

Then Vader dies (largely by his own hand).

Leaving Luke to train Leia (somehow I think Leia isn't going to be a goodie in the next film).

Order vs Chaos is a classic archetypal battle.

Fans of Babylon 5 will know what I am getting at  ;)

The whole balance of the force and 'chosen one' idea was utter guff. Where was the scene in the OT with Obi Wan telling Luke his father was the chosen one who it was said (by who and when is never explained in the PT either) would bring Balance to the force? Why not, you either use the force for good or bad intentions. Good-Evil, Light-Dark, Yin-Yang etc.
