I'd guess for PETA its ok to kill an animal if you're a member of PETA.

PETA is another of those groups of phony assholes who live by the mantra, "Don't do as I do, do as I say."

Pathetic. Fuck off, PETA.

What do you expect from the organization that compares killing chickens for food to the slaughter of Jews in the Holocaust?

I love PETA! They are really cool... in a VERY dark and disturbing sort of way. It is hard to believe ANYONE can take them seriously if they have seen any of the publications they have released. Such as the very gory comic book entitled, "Your Mom is a Killer" which propagates children to completely turn against their own parents. Great stuff!

I've very mixed feelings about PETA. First, I'm a meat eater and I don't intend to change than (although I'm eating a LOT less lately as to a change on my diet for health reasons), and I've witnessed killing chickens and cows, and the full killing of a pig and meat extraction about 2 meters away from it - and I've eatern the same pig later that same day, so it's not like animal killing is a distant reality for me. But at the same time, I totally respect other people's decision to refrain from animal products, and do not condemn then, but support their point of view and their freedom to express themselves that way. But PETA, although teorically with a very good agenda and principles, has lost its way and does not follow a rigid, clear regiment as Greepeace does, for example. The "Penn and Teller Bulshit" episode about them is hilarious (although a bit biased, as they usually are on their political views). I'd refuse donating money for PETA, and hope that they, in the future, focus on their issue with a little bit of respect for other people and, yes, animals.

PETA's purpose isn't really animal rights. That's just a front for their real agenda, which seems to be to piss as many people off as possible.

Think about it. They compare chickens to the Holocaust; they make ads offensive to religious people; they target children with vile propaganda; and first and foremost, THEY KILL THE ANIMALS THEY CLAIM TO PROTECT.

The only logical conclusion, in my mind, is that the organization cares nothing about animals, and probably never did.

I don't belive such an organization to be something like a tax shelter excuse to grab donner's and sponsor's money, but they are plagued with hypocrisy all the way. What I don't want to mix up here is this organization, to which I do not support at all, and the whole theory about protecting animals, to which I partially support. While I'm not against using non-endagerous species for food and clothes or medical tests (unless it's something really cruel and without porpouse) I support those who are against it and I'm all for protecting endagerous species, something that Greenpeace has done quite well. PETA's pretty much unnecessary, if you think about it.

One thing I wish I had the $$ to do would be to stand in front of Pamela Anderson's house with a big bucket of KFC and eat it with a big sign that says "Finger Lickin' Good!". So sick of these idiots who can't run their own lives telling me what I'm doing wrong with mine.

I agree with Ric that, just because PETA might be crazy, doesn't mean that vegetarianism and animal rights activism is crazy as a whole. As I am a vegetarian myself, I'd hate the concept to get a bad rap because of this.

I have no trouble with people being vegans or whatever, but PETA really does give them a bad name. Anyone ever see the Behind The Music episode on VH1 for Ted Nugent. Those wack jobs threatened to kill Nugent's children cuz he hunts animal.

Threatening kids is fucking insane and anyone who does so for a reason like saving the animal should be locked the hell up and the key should be shot into orbit.

Loony, loony, loony!!!

Exactly. Honestly, I think PeTA's true purpose is to create zealots, not save animals. The difference being that they want fanatics who don't think for themselves instead of rational people who make decisions in a rational manner. Cruelty to animals is appalling, but the things that PeTA does are far more appalling than anything you'll see in a slaughter house.

I thought the only Website PETA killed was the one for People Eating Tasty Animals. Screw PETA ... while I don't mind boycotting veal because it is grossly inhumane and while I don't wear mink or sable because, frankly, I don't live in Siberia, I find PETA grossly disrespectful to all my ancestors who helped me climb my way to the top of the food chain. Let this unabashed liberal put on his leather jacket and eat a steak in peace.

I find it amusing that PETA wishes all humans to stop the inhumane eating of other animals, yet they aren't saying anything bad about how dogs, or hawks, or sharks, or other ANIMALS (which, face it, humans are) all eat other animals to survive.

I can't wait for the day when mankind learns that vegetation also has consciousness. Then the real freaks can rally to the rights of vegetables, so they may grow in unhindered, uncultivated peace, away from the herbivorous herbality of humans. Let them unite under the slogan: "Every Salad Has A Soul."

You sure know how to hurt a guy, ADM.

(Although the Every Salad Has a Soul thing was really funny)

They attached a lie detector to some plants on Mythbusters a while back. While the specific myth they were testing was busted, it was clear (at least to me) that the machine registered alpha waves from the plant.

Now there's a VERY good point, that animals hunt and kill other animals. Do you know how a snake kills and eats a cow? Not pretty nor humane. But about vegetables having consciousness, I don't think so, these are living organisms but with no brain.

Yes, I always want to make a nut-case vegetarian watch a Great White jump out of the water at 30mph and tearing apart a seal and ask why the shark doesn't just eat kelp...

Not that we know of ... not yet. That's my point. Remember, it wasn't that long ago that we believed humans thought with their heart, that bloodletting was the healthy way to exorcise demons from the body, and many still refuse to believe we descended from the same evolutionary branch as apes. As we learn more about life as a whole, we might be surprised at how it works in all living things. After all, SOMETHING is driving plants to reproduce.

My comment wasn't at all meant to offend. Vegetarianism is a choice, and I'm all about choice. I certainly respect vegetarians for their choices, but only ask the same respect for evolution and the food chain in return. Since most vegetarians are also liberals, this shouldn't be a stretch.

Someone should do a similar expose on Planned Parenthood. It's amazing how many people come to bat for chickens and cats, but not humans.
