Announcement: Sticky Threads

Author
Time
 (Edited)

Well everyone, the time has come for a change around here. I look around lately and I see a lot of different projects going on. This is great news! The only problem I have is trying to decide which threads deserve to be stickied to the top of the forum. What it all comes down to is the fact that there are too many active projects and not enough room at the top of the page. As it is now, you may have to scroll to the next page to find the most recent discussion.

As of tomarrow, all project threads will be unstickied from this forum.

In their place, an index thread will be created with links to all projects – finished as well as those currently under development. The only other threads to stay stickied will be the forum rules thread and the official screenshots threads. My goal here is to make this forum more accessible and easier to navigate. Hopefully, this will do the trick.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to address them here. In the mean time, let’s see if we can get the project index going. Who’d like to volunteer to make a list of links to all the project threads?

My Projects:
[Holiday Special Hybrid DVD v2]
[X0 Project]
[Backstroke of the West DVD]
[ROTS Theatrical DVD]

That's a very good idea. Then, when the thread is upped, people will know there's something new.

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
<span class=“Bold”>JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.</span></span>

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
<span class=“Bold”>Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.</span></span>

<span class=“Italics”>JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.</span>

I've always preferred an 'index thread' idea, such as some of the ones on Doom9's 'AviSynth Usage' sub-forum. So this will be a great step forward, in my opinion.

Maybe I'm weird, but I start looking for new threads below all the stickies here, and as a result I sometimes miss new stuff on the various active projects as a result.

No, I find myself doing that as well.

That's a great idea, I changed my settings so I get a big list of threads because it seems like the amount of stickies are more than the 'normal' threads when on default number of threads/page.

Just one question, what's the project list topic going to be called.

*** Project list - completed and ongoing preservation projects ***

perhaps?

***Citizen's NTSC DVD/PAL DVD/XviD Info and Feedback Thread***

An index-thread is definitely better than having the whole page filled with stickies... though I would prefer a sub-forum "Projects" even more...

Bravo !

I too prefer seeing threads sorted by date. Computers are good at sorting.
The server can do it better and faster than my eyes & brain can scan the page.
Let the computer do the work.

If I want to find a particular project thread, I'll use the Search function.
It's easy enough to click Search and type "X0", "Cowclops" or whatever.

[I do wish the Search function worked on article contents as well as titles....]

And why do threads need to have the word "Thread" in the title ? Isn't it redundant ?
If it doesn't have the word "Thread" in the title, then it's not a thread ?
Does it serve any purpose, other than cluttering the page ?

******* The "I've got more asterisks than you in the title of my thread" Thread *******

I'm not advocating an asterisk race, but what purpose do they serve if everybody uses precisely three ?
We've got detente with three asterisks each. Cut it to zero. Less is more.

Edit:
The search function doesn't work so well if one types "XO" instead of "X0"
as I had done earlier in my post.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Ah, but if the project threads are now tossed in with everything else, maybe exactly three asterisks now makes the project threads easier to pick out from the 'noise' of all that other stuff?

Just playin' devil's advocate. I agree that when all the projects are stickied and clustered together, the asterisks are redundant.

'Detente' -- good word...

Sounds like a very good idea. Good thinking!

Cool idea of having a linked index to all the various projects.

Any chance of including the massive dvd covers thread somewhere on it too m8? So many links, ideas, pics, fonts, other sites etc, on there...

I'm heading off to the theater to see Star Wars. When I get back, I'll get to work on the index. If you're around, I could use your help or anyone else who wants to volunteer. Let's get a good list going in this thread of all the dvd projects.

My Projects:
[Holiday Special Hybrid DVD v2]
[X0 Project]
[Backstroke of the West DVD]
[ROTS Theatrical DVD]

Uhh...Z? Moth3r's already created said index thread! It might need fleshing out, and it definitely needs stickying, but it's a damn fine start.

Well in to Moth3r for doing a sound job on the index sticky

Google actually indexes all of the text content in the forum. So if you want to find an older article, try it out.

Lookit! My thread appears at No. 10, and is currently the highest ranking project thread in Google's index! (Zion's is next at No. 13)
