$6/month and you still have to watch commercials? That’s insane!
Iirc, it’s $6 a month with commercials, and $10 without. Other channels don’t have paywalls quite like this, it’s just the streaming companies like Netflix and Hulu. ABC, for example, has a streaming site that’s free so long as you already have standard TV service. Anyway, it’d probably end up being a lot cheaper to wait for it’s eventual Blu-Ray or DVD release (which I assume will happen at some point, right?) than to pay $10 every month until the season ends.
Gotcha - and thank you for the reply 😃

Maybe if it was an all Star Trek channel with every series and rarely seen tv specials. An all Stargate streaming service is starting up including the newest series.
There’s a lot of vintage Trek interviews in the vaults from shows like Entertainment Tonight and the Sci Fi channel airing of TOS they could probably get.
Alas, I can barely watch youtube stuff without buffering from hell.

Just watched Ep1 of Discovery, and I already have serious reservations about this show. I’m not completely turned off, but it very much does not feel like Trek.

Yeah, I’m on the fence about it. Although I missed a few minutes at the beginning. And now I have to cough up six bucks to see the rest of the pilot? BOO! HISS! That was not nearly enough to make an informed decision about paying to see more of it.
And I didn’t know Daft Punk was in Starfleet. 😛

Wait, it’s a two-parter? And the second part won’t be available on regular TV?
Sometimes I think Paramount wants to fail.
After watching the first part/episode, the crew apparently has several years of history together, and yet they often interact as though it’s the maiden voyage; The captain asks questions of the first officer in a manner that sometimes is unclear whether the captain is testing the first officer or is just legitimately uninformed; The first 12 minutes are extremely dialogue heavy with very little relevance to the story; and the first officer and science officer needlessly bicker. In previous Treks, while crewmates might disagree, there was a clear chain of command or at the very least respect, but this crew seems to lack that. At best, the first officer seems the captain’s pupil, and the crewmates bicker just because.
Oddly enough, the best part about the pilot is the Klingons, not the Starfleet crew.
And while yes, I agree that the title sequence feels like it could be in a medical drama, I didn’t think it was generally bad, just didn’t have the feeling of exploring “Space, the final frontier…”
The truth of the matter is, the Kelvin Timeline felt much more like Prime Universe Trek than this does.

CBS. You can only blame Paramount for the movies these days.

It’s getting so I can’t tell these parent/daughter companies apart anymore. 😉

Wait, this isn’t the Kelvin timeline? 😉
I’m liking The Orville more at this point, but I saw two episodes of that. Would be funny if a “feud” developed between the two shows the way there was friction between the DS9 and Babylon 5 camps for a time.

I can guarantee that I’m not paying for CBS All Access to watch Discovery until (or unless) the character interactions improve. Disagreeing with each other is one thing, but downright insubordination and bickering is something else.
Seriously, this isn’t The Walking Dead: A Star Trek Story.

Last night I’ve seen the first 3 episodes of The Orville. I f*in LOVE the show, why does it have such bad reviews?
Tonight it’s time for Discovery, hope it’s at least good, the opening sequence looks horrible.
Fun fact: I watched the pilot for Enterprise for the first time right before watching Discovery.
Both pilots left me with much the same feeling.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)
Enterprise premiered just two weeks after 9/11, and I was so glad to have new Trek to watch. Even my dad who was never into Trek tuned in.
At least it didn’t leave us on cliffhanger with a sign that says Insert six bucks to continue. 😛

Is here somebody who hated the trailers but liked the episodes?
Bleh. That was not Star Trek.
I’ve slept on it and, while I still don’t think it’s that bad, it definitely isn’t good. For a crew that’s supposedly been together for 7 years, they all act like newbies.

I love Enterprise. All of the senior staff are great. Archer, T’Pol, Trip, Reed, Hoshi, and Travis. They all are interesting characters in their own right. And Scott Bakula is a fantastic actor.
The main problem Enterprise has is actually addressed by Archer himself—they keep getting drawn in to the temporal cold war so much that Archer has to straight up tell Daniels to knock it off.

I haven’t seen more than the pilot for Enterprise, but save from the song choices it wasn’t bad. The actors are decent, but I’ve no desire to see the rest of the show. Same with Discovery. I enjoy Michelle Yeoh but the crew interaction doesn’t endear me to them at all.

For what it’s worth, I hate Encounter at Farpoint, and yet TNG is my favorite Trek. I’m glad that the show succeeded in spite of its pilot episode and first two seasons.

I did not enjoy Michelle Yeoh. As I said, often I can’t tell if she’s asking a question to make sure her crew knows the answer or because she herself is genuinely asking. And when she picks on two crewmembers because they finally agree on something, I can’t tell if she’s being sardonic or jovial. For what it’s worth, I guess I wish her accent wasn’t so thick.

You could just skip to season 3 and 4. 😉
