The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS ** — Page 86

I cannot say. I just listen to the music, I never read the credits. So I assume that a bunch of people have been forgotten in the theatrical version AND the scrawl speed has been slightly slowed down (by 10-15% or so, something you wouldn’t spot).

Anyway, does not change anything. The real trick is that the deleted scenes will only be 5 or 6 minutes (far from the expected 20-25 minutes) and there is no hint a teaser/trailer of ROGUE ONE is gonna be an easter egg.

It’s not a ROGUE ONE trailer or something like that, I checked (if it had been, you would already know). The credits last 11’. On album, the music for the end credits is around 7’40’’. So there is indeed 3’ of added material, at least music material :

Album track Medley:

  • Rey’s theme
  • First Order/Kylo Ren theme
  • Poe & Finn escape
  • March of the Resistance
  • Force awakening theme (Jedi steps)

Bluray end credits Medley:

  • Rey’s theme
  • Scherzo for X-Wings
  • First Order/Kylo Ren theme
  • Poe & Finn escape
  • March of the Resistance
  • Force awakening theme (Jedi steps)

So the credits have been extended, or, as I assume, just been slowed down (I remember in theater it was a little bit hard to follow the scrawl, which was passing too fast, so I guess it has been corrected) with a new track inserted into the medley. Not a big deal.

Don’t know where you’re getting these numbers from but I know that the credits music on the album is shorter than what was actually in the film. In the film the rendition of the March of the Resistance is replaced by the concert version, which adds a couple minutes. This version of the end credits medley can be found in the FYC tracks.

If it helps anyone, the end credits of TFA run from 2h 07m 07s - the end credits then finish and are followed by the Bad Robot logo and finally the Lucasfilm logo - which then ends and the screen fades to black on 2h 18m 05s.

So 10 mins and 58 seconds of end credits in total.

Chapters are at (I don’t have chapter titles - so just made them up):-

It’s entirely possible in the film they swapped out the Rey’s theme part of the medley with the concert version, at least that was something I thought I heard when I saw it in theaters. That would probably add a bit.

Well I guess as soon as I get my copy of the bluray on the 5th I’m gonna have to download one of those crappy in-theater bootlegs and compare to see if anything’s different. I thought TFA would be the last film we’d have to have theatrical reconstructions for. Sigh.

Don’t forget to reconstruct the 3D conversion as well.

Unless I’m missing something, I haven’t seen anyone mention the fact that the bluray will only have three minutes and 41 seconds of deleted scenes (and that’s spread across SIX scenes, the longest being 50 seconds). I’m not a big fan of deleted scenes (I’ll watch 'em once and then forget about them (I love extended/director’s cuts, though)) but that’s significantly less than what Abrams hinted at being on the disc.

As an aside, I’ve never understood why deleted scenes always seem to get the shaft. How many times has a shot that’s been featured in a trailer not been included in the deleted scenes? I can’t imagine it would cost a lot of money since they don’t have to finish them.

Another edition with more bonus material (and the 3D version) is likely to be released end 2016, or a few weeks prior to EpVIII release.

There, I’ve done it – I finally seen this movie. My final thoughts?

I liked the production values, I liked the budding chemistry and banter between Rey & Finn, I liked BB-8, and I liked the Scottish & Asian smugglers Han briefly runs into before the rathtar scene. As for everything else, however? The First Order villains? The Starkiller plot device? The execution of Rey’s burgeoning Force powers? The lightsaber duel? It was all very – how shall I put this? – uncaptivating.

I didn’t hate this movie, but I didn’t like it either; once the Starkiller base reared its uninspired stratosphere, I rapidly fell into boredom and just couldn’t wait for the plot dominoes to fall in their predictable order and lead into the end credits.

Now that it’s out of the way, I have no intent or interest in ever seeing this movie again.

6/10

About damn time 😃

EDIT: You should watch it a second time in like a week or two to reaffirm your position. It’s definitely a film that should be seen a second time.

Completely agree. For me, I found the initial Jakku sequence to be quite long and tedious on the first viewing. The second time the whole movie was phenomenal. Looking forward to seeing it a third time in just a week. 😃

Wait, didn’t you give it a B- on another thread? 6/10 is a D- right?

I guess but this is why I don’t convert between the point rating system and the alphabet rating system because they don’t mesh. I have the film at an 8.2/10 and God knows what that would be in the alphabet rating system.

It seems I’m on your wavelength too. But I really only liked the production value… and BB-8 a little, I guess. So I’m like, hanging on the edge of the wave 😉.

I consider 6 to be somewhere between mediocre and good – the better side of okay, you could say.

Personally, I don’t know exactly how to convert a 6 to a letter rating; like Haseo said, the two systems aren’t exactly compatible. I usually settle on C+ or B-.

Iv seen it 5 times now and would give the first act a 10/10. It literally made me buzz with pure joy during Rey’s introduction and the escape with Poe and Finn it just was so great. But the second and third act would get like a 7/10 at best. They just lost the engaging feel of the plot so if episodes 8 and 9 are as captivating at the first act of TFA then that would be awesome.

Agreed though the second act is an 7.5/10 for me. Third act is the weakest though due to it feeling rushed.
