I actually think the opposite. Seems like it would be Disney World’s attempt at making an imposing theme for out baddies.

My point is that the Resistance isn’t supposed to be ‘baddies’

For some reason I had the impression that that song was The March of The First Order. That’s what I get for skimming before making a reply.

March of the Resistance is very militaristic. Real WWII vibe. I figure this has something to do with them being an unsanctioned off shoot of the New Republic. I wouldn’t call it sinister, but I wonder if it’s a hint that things might not be so black and white in the next installment.

I’d say that would be giving the creators too much credit, but it would certainly be a nice departure from the OT. The PT already did the whole ‘good Republic goes bad’ thing, so that probably won’t happen again.

I just realized that Rey has a very different relationship to the Resistance than Luke or Anakin in their respective times. Anakin is loyal to the Republic, Luke joins the Rebels out of idealism, but Rey doesn’t have an ideological dog in this fight. She’s a fighter, but doesn’t strike me as soldier material. I’m guessing that she’s going to act more like the driven, compassionate ROTJ Luke in Episode 8 than anyone else.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I don’t think the Resistance will turn bad but I certainly think considering their precarious political position there’s a possibility they might not always seem the straight up “good guys.” It’s possible that they just continue to remain the obvious heroes (like the Rebels) but they’ve been set up in a way that isn’t as cut and dry as in the OT (even if TFA doesn’t necessarily portray it as such, it’s still a clear decision that’s been made) and with EpVIII likely being the darker chapter I could see them going to some interesting places (Empire did add complicate the black and white morality after all with Lando and Vader’s reveal).

(This picture also makes me wonder what the heck “Veg-meat” is supposed to mean. Is it fake meat like Tofu?)

Fun fact: Tofu’s association with being a food substitute is from the West. In Asia, it’s used as its own ingredient.

Thoughts?

That there is a lot of clickbait out there? 😉

(the article conveniently forgets that when Kylo activates his lightsabre to go through Han that Kylo ‘twists the knife in’ a bit more as it were - he gives it a little more thrust into Han’s body, and then says ‘thank you’).

Just my two penneth.

Anybody else find this movie is WAY better on second viewing?

Guess that’s just a result of the frantic nature of it.

Yep because the first time you’re caught up in the sensory overload and in the fact that you’re seeing a new Star Wars film.

By my fourth viewing even most of the problems I had with the film seemed like nitpicks. Hell, it’s been nearly a month since my last viewing and the more I think about the film the more I like it.

I had a slow afternoon yesterday so I decided to catch a matinee. It had been a month since my last viewing as well. I was really pleased by how enjoyable it still is now that the excitement has dissipated. Can’t wait to own it in six weeks.

I decided to watch it after over two months, and can completely agree with all of this.

I should go see it again before it gets nudged out by new stuff in the next few weeks. Already down to two theaters around here, and no more digital IMAX screenings.

I wonder how long the 70mm IMAX presentations will keep going?

Well I live in the UK where the cinema is ruinously expensive so I can’t afford to go more than twice otherwise it just gets ridiculous.

Listening to this, Theatres? Want to have less piracy? Try lowering ticket prices. lil’ something called the demand curve.

Indeed. If tickets were half the price, I’d go three times as often.

Ticket prices have been one of the few consolations since I’ve moved back to suburbia after college in Boston. You can see a 2D matinee here for five bucks and change. It was almost ten in the city. Of course the trade off was that I got to see a lot more art house stuff and old classics in those days. The movies giveth and the movies hath taken away.

Ticket prices are about $18 at the only theatre near my house. That’s Canadian dollars, though, so it’s probably equivalent to $8 US. 😉 (But ticket prices haven’t changed since the CD dropped so far below the value of the USD, of course.)
