If it wins then there is something very wrong.

Do you like anything about the film?

For what it’s worth, Academy Award nominations are decided by industry professionals AKA the cream of the crop in each branch. So the people who nominated TFA for Best Editing were editors (not just that, but some of the very best in the business).

And an editing nomination for a blockbuster is rare. It’s only the second Star Wars film after the original to get one.

The movie also got four other nominations, for those who were wondering.

While reading about TFA’s nomination, I found this. It seems like TFA is in a way “more equal than other” movies 😄

That was pretty silly but it’s their own fault for giving out awards before the year is even over and every movie’s been seen.

No, it’s just another way TFA IS COMPLETELY UNORIGINAL.

Are you saying it’s fine to change the rules just for one single movie in 21 years? O.o

A film with a 90-93% score on RT from hundreds of thousands of people could be validly described as “Popular at best”, or “Crowd-pleasing at best” without fear of succumbing to hyperbole.

I don’t think you should take RT too seriously

It still has an 8.5 on imdb which seems more sensible to a guy like me who only rated a film an 8.3

^ Is that better? Or is it the exact same point I was making 😉

I wouldn’t take IMDb ratings all that seriously, either. They rate The Fly II 4.9/10 for crying out loud.

ANH has a 8.7 ESB has an 8.8 and ROTJ has an 8.4

For the most part IMDB is pretty much on point when it comes to Star Wars reviews.

Hmmm…

TPM 6.5
AOTC 6.7
ROTS 7.6

The rent isn’t the only thing that’s too damn high.

ROTS is kind of too high but TPM and AOTC are about right. Those two weren’t that bad. Watch a few of IHE’s Search For The Worst videos and you’ll see what genuinely terrible movies are.

  1. It’s happened before (Cast Away in 2001).
  2. It’s ridiculous that a movie that was released in what is supposedly their eligibility period (the calendar year) wasn’t initially under consideration because they decided to vote before the year was over and they had seen all the movies.
  3. Yes I do think the rules should change but I think what should change is that they should stop trying to be the first to predict the Oscars and move their nominations back.
  4. The Critic’s Choice Awards are a joke anyway.

Storm in a teacup. To think you’d resign over it. I don’t know.

There are at least 4 movies up for several nominations that only opened internationally this week and another 4 that still haven’t been released internationally yet. But of course those were given brief pre-screenings earlier, simply to make them eligible for the awards. With the secrecy/buzz over TFA, it was never gonna be screened early. Also films like ‘The Hateful Eight’ were released in the US a week after TFA but again were given an earlier pre-screening. So any idea that the membership didn’t have a chance to see TFA is rubbish, they had an extra week!

So IMO it’s got far more right to be considered than those other movies.

I hate the end credits. Our evil Chancellor gets a mention FFS. The End Credits were the worst part of the movie.

Come on now there has to be something wrong with them. I simply can’t believe they didn’t screw that up too. It’s easily the hardest part of the film to make

I thought they did a great job at casting especially when it comes to Daisy Ridley. Who would have thought that such an unknown would give such a great performance?

How can anyone like the end credits? Did you see some of those names? They’re the same as the OT! Direct rip-off! How about we try to do something original next time?

I thought she was quite ‘wooden’ very much like prequel characters but each to their own, must be difficult acting to thin air though.

You might be the only person on the planet who feels this way. It’s certainly not an “each their own” situation.
