(Edited)

I’ve been thinking of creating a web page with some FAQs and a guide to creating/editing your own OT from laserdisc and other sources and getting them onto DVD.

Would anyone be interested in this if I went ahead?

Topics I want to cover are:

Calibration
3:2 pulldown
PAL vs NTSC
Capture Hardware and software
Colour grading/adjustments
Comb Filters
SVideo/Composite/RGB/Component
Scaling
Codecs
Frame by frame fixes/painting/restoration
Faces vs Defintive vs… etc. LD versions
Laserdisc players and quality
Black/White crush, contrast brighntess and greyscale
0IRE
transcoding for DVD output
PCM vs DD(AC3)
DVD9 vs DVD5
file sizes etc.

Any other topics people would like to see covered?

You can e-mail me with interest/suggestions/experience on “originaltilogy at mudgee dot net” as my PMs are nearly always full here.

Or if you think its a waste of time/stoopid idea, let me know as well!

I think this is actually an excellent idea. I always tried to provide some technical details of each stage of my project as I went along. Of course, the work on my own transfer has been put on hold until the X0 transfers are ready. Gotta make some room for those AVI's.

For one thing, I'll provide a comprehensive write-up of creating a 5.1 soundtrack from the PCM track. If I recall, at least one other person tried this (I don't recall if it was tellen or ADigitalMan. It's hard to tell them apart when they use the same avatar - man, do I despise people who share avatars. )

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

And you have the same avatar as Laserman.

Should be interesting to see what is involved in the process of getting an LD capture onto a dvd - with the know-how, software, hardware and time taken.

Also the differences between the NTSC, PAL and Japanese LD versions too - which has advantages over the other etc

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

This would be awsome.

I assume that it would be written in such a way that it can be applied to just doing a LD (or vhs) transfer from any movie, but also then have some sections that focus on OT stuff, such as the faces vs definitive.

either way, i'd def be interested in something like this.

I think it's an excellent idea, and I'd be happy to contribute, either by writing guides on certain topics or proof-reading any other content ("originaltilogy"? )

I know this thread is realy old, but LM mentioned some really good guides and a lot of potentially very useful information.

Were any of these other guides created, or was the end result the webdocs that feature on the X0project site?

The only articles that were ever finished are the ones you can find on the X0 Project site.

A lot of the other stuff has actually been covered in responses to queries in the technical help section, it's just a bit difficult to wade through all the posts to find the relevant information.

Yeah, I have been searching and searching and only seem to come across bits and pieces of information that tease rather than enlighten unfortunately :/
