Is it wrong to name your kids after a Star Wars character?

I ask this because I'm expecting my first born in a couple of weeks now and both myself and my girlfriend are stuck for names.

She keeps asking me if there are any good SW names, but to my understanding they are all pretty dorky shit.
Apart from the obvious Luke etc, the names suck.
That is untill she heard Leia...She likes Leia...

I'm not too sure???
Is it cruel to call a kid that? Obviously if it's a girl. For a boy I have no idea.

Given the chance, and if you were a super SW fan, would you name your child after one of your heroes??
Typing this shit makes it sound even sadder......

Is it cruel??....Everyone who knows me, know my love for SW, so I think it might just be the tackiest thing I could do...Who knows??

Leia'd be a cool name for a girl

How's about Han, Bail or Mace?

I take it you want to stay away from Tarkin, Anakin or Palpatine (you'd always be worrying about what he is getting up to. lol)

How about Jar Jar? No wait, Binks! Or Darth. If you are going to name him/her after a Star Wars character, you may as well name him/her Beat Me Up or Loser! Think traditional names dude.

Nuttin' wrong with Leia; of course you could call her Mon Mothma.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

I think the only Star Wars names you could name your children after is Luke... I'd recomend not naming him/her Jabba, Vader, or Bobba Fett.

Leia is really just a fancy respelling of Leah, I suppose...

I actually know someone named Leia, and her parents weren't Star Wars fans.

I know of a couple who were Star Wars fans who named their daughter Anika in reference to Anikan, of course this was several years before the prequals were made, so they were't to know any better.

just don't call your child Sebulba!

I know someone called Akbar.

It's an Asian name, I don't think his parents were Star Wars fans.

Anyway, I wouldn't be embarassed to name my kid Corran or Jacen(or Jaina for that matter).

I don't think Leia sounds that bad...have you considered Mara? Just remember that most of the population hasn't had that much to do with the EU, so mostly only Star Wars fans would be the wiser for it. But avoid Greedo, if you can.

Mara is a common name in latin america.

Mara is a name in several cultures, (Mara, I believe, is the hebrew name from which we derive Mary, Marie, Maria, Mariana, ect.)

I think it is also a Japanese name, but I'm not sure about that one.

I think if you're going to name a kid after a SW character, use a normal Earth-esque name like Luke, Leia, Ben, Mara, or Jacen.
And serioulsy avoid names like Greedo, Qui-gon, Jolie Bindo, Bastila, Carth, Mithraw'nuruodo, Anakin, or Mon Mothma.

Avoid Palpatine too. It's kinda like naming your child Adolf or Damien.

Not the best idea, really.

I'm imagining some poor kid's first day of kindergarten: 'Greedo Smith?'
