"Yet another peice of cinema history that has been buried due to Politically Correct bullshit."

Have you heard that they are going to un-PC Disneyland? I know the jungle cruise operators will have guns again. I wonder if they are going to remove the food baskets from the Pirates of the Carribean as well...

Can anyone transfer the LD of the true theatrical version of Manhunter?
Author
Time
Hey all,

I have an LD copy of BladeRunner/Criterion Collection but no way of transferring it. If Rikter, MeBeJedi, or one of our other established 'project' people are interested in trying their hand at it I might be willing to send the LD out so it can be done. The extra's alone on the disc are worth a really great transfer since Ridley Scott won't be doing a theatrical transfer just yet.

Farsight has released his transfer of Blade Runner to MySpleen. I haven't seen his rip yet, but I can bet its at least as good as the DVD currently floating around.

I saw the torrent but since I don't own a DVD burner as of yet I thought it would be great give someone here a chance to do one if they wanted too with all that has been learned with the recent "transfer" projects underway.......it's alot cheaper than eBay....LOL

Echo3, if I mail you a blank DVD-R, could you copy Song of the South for me? I would be more than happy to seed a torrent of such a classic flick, especially since its not commercially available.

I've got the Blade Runner DVD, transferred from te Criterion LD. Its pretty good, though not as nice as what some of the guys here are capable of. I would trade you a copy for your Wings DVD when its done. Tat anime is great, and I hate watching my crappy old dubbed VHS.

The Wings DVD is done. I'm just waiting for DL media to be affordable, and to buy a DL writer.

It is basically the US disc with the Japanese video. Of course I still had to completely take it apart and rebuild it from the ground up. I added the 5.1 japanese mix too. I've got a single layer version for the mean-time which just has the movie with english/japanese 2.0 audio and english subs and a simple menu.

Hmm. What do you think I should do? Would you recommend I wait? Or is it going to be an inordinately long time before DL happens?

I'd wait. I will probably start burning them in December or January. Not too long to wait for the ultimate WoH disc I think.

I'd like to see the Indy trilogy preserved in its theatrical format. What's different in last year's DVD versions? Apart from the reflection in the Well of Souls that was painted out for the DVD. Also, our UK version of Temple of Doom was butchered to get a PG certificate. I bought my DVD set from Germany to get the uncut version!

I guarantee that would spread like wildfire around the internet if a quality capture along the likes of what everyone's doing with Star Wars was done with Frighteners. Especially considering all the extras on that set.

I think someone capturing and doing up "Frighteners" would be even more anticipated than a capture of Close Encounters theatrical release.
A LD->VCD transfer has been done by a group called FLAiR, who release these kind of classics to the warez scene. See here and here. Unfortunately being spread over 7 discs, it was never really that popular so didn't filter down from the warez sites to Usenet/IRC/P2P.

I was thinking of doing Bambi, because the anniversary edition LDs go pretty cheap on eBay - but apparently the DVD is due out next March.

How about an American Grafitti transfer? The DVD has a digital sunset inserted in the beginning of the film. Sure it makes sense and it even adds to the story, making the evening bookended with the sunset and sunrise, but it sure ain't how it used to be.

Edit: NM, someone already posted the link to Farsight's Blade Runner DVD

No one has a Howard the Duck or Harry and the Hendersons project in the works? I purchased Howard the Duck on DVD on eBay and the quality sucked! It only cost me $13 but still! I found a HTD enthusiast who sent me a copy of his, reportedly a conversion from a LD. It was the same conversion I bought on eBay!

Let me tell you, the conversion is no way from LD source! It looks like a washed out VHS, and one that had been played for awhile to boot! The sound was decent but that's it.

I'm thinking of purchasing the LD on eBay. I found 1 for sale here:

I wonder if one of the "elders" here would transfer it for me? $40 for the LD is a bit steep though, plus whatever they would charge to do the conversion. Anyone else interested in Howard the Duck, to make it worth while? Please email me at the address in my profile if you guys are.

Jetrell Fo was planning on sending me his, but I've not heard from him lately, so I don't know if it's still on or not. Let me know if you get the LD.

In other news, I plan to be posting some MPEGs of my SW LD captures (no corrections yet, just the straight video), so you will get some idea of the quality of my captures.

Sorry MBJ,

I'm expecting a little bundle of joy and have been feverishly trying to prepare......as if that will make it any easier....lol

I really can't wait to see what this transfer will bring. I haven't seen Farsight's so I don't have a basis of comparison...haven't even tried grabbing a set off of eBay to see that one. I believe this to be in good hands with MBJ....

Oops, my bad. Jetrell Fo has Blade Runner. Nonetheless, I'd love to make a copy of Howard the Duck for you (and me), Itchy.

(It sucks that the LD is only P&S, but that means it zooms in on Lea. )

Hey MeBejedi

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately I was out of town and I didnt get a chance to bid on the auction for the Howard LD. If any of you guys come across one please PM me or email me at the address provided in my profile. Same goes for Harry and the Hendersons.

Thanks!

Anybody doing "King Kong?" If so, how are the rules you're applying to "Star Wars" differing with a B&W film like Kong?

I just got Sealab 2021 Seasons 1-3 off myspleen and I'm currently creating DVD's for each season. Of course the quality won't be as good as the real dvd's since the source I'm working with is 512x354 XviD, but hey, it's an old cartoon anyway.

I'm hoping to whip up some quick main and chapter menus for these too. I can post screenshots when I'm done if you guys want.

Edit: man, waiting 26 hours for TMPGEnc to encode just under 2 hours of video kinda sucks...

My friend just gave me his computer, which is exactly like mine. Both Vegas and Combustion 3 allow for video processing to be spread across a network.
