What is this ESPN360 you speak of?

Is there a way I can watch games AND be at the computer? That would be very useful to me.

Sarcasm?

I have a little bit of money on USA qualifying for the second round, so they really need to win this, plus it would be nice to have a few underdogs make it past the group stages. I'm doubtful they will defeat Italy though.

I was just looking at the group tables and I think USA might have a hope of staying alive if they draw today. A draw today will give USA one point and Italy will have 4. If USA then beat Ghana and Italy lose to the Czech Republic, Italy and USA will be tied for second place with 4 points and it will come down to goal difference.

EDIT: Another one bites the dust. Portugal just beat Iran 2-0.

I've seen some interviews from brazillian players lately, and it's irritating the product placement they gotta do on each of those. They gotta be seating in front of a local soda brand, with the nike symbol showing, and with an xbox 360 besides then! This is ridiculous!

On a sad note, to which no one outside Brazil will understand, a famous TV comediant called "Bussunda" (not his real name), who was in Germany doing a humorous coverage of the World Cup along with 3 other members of his comedy group died of a heart attack this morning. After taping some segments for this week's show (to be aired tuesday night), he and the crew started playing some soccer at the hotel with american tourists. He wasn't feeling well, and the crew of the show gave him some water. He was visibly not well, but refused to go to a hospital. He was feeling tired all day, and the following morning, at the breakfast, he had a sudden heart attack and died. He was overweight, so that would probably be the reason for his early death at only 44 years old.

That's really sad. Will they still air the show do you think?

I don't mean this badly, but that's a good example of why people need to eat well and stay fit. My Granddad died of a heart attack so it's one of my fears.

BTW: Ghana just stunned everyone with a 2-0 victory over Czech Republic. If USA can beat Italy, the group will be tied at 3 points each.

They'll air a tribute show this tuesday. Not sure if they'll continue doing it after that. I stoped watching them 10 years ago because it has turned into mostly toilet humor and bad pun jokes, but it was still kinda shocking, specially over the fact that it happened on germany in the middle of the World Cup. They did a film to be released in september, it's been put on hold now.

Bussunda with his "Fat Ronaldo" character, one of his last photos

Well, Ghana won, that was kinda surprising. And deserving. Italy will most certanly defeat USA, so they'll be confirmed for the second round, and USA will be out. Then USA will play Ghana, and Czech Republic will play Italy, and we all known what the outcomes will be. So I suppose Ghana is our little African team that gets to move to the secound round, only to eliminated at the first game - every World Cup has one of those.

Well, it's half time and Italy are certainly not defeating USA, much to everyone's surprise. USA are playing superbly and that red card against USA was totally unfair.

P.S That Fat Ronaldo photo is funny.

All 3 red cards are totally in line with Fifa's (harsh) new rulings.

This ref has been the only one this tournament to follow the new guidelines to the letter of the law.

Great game from a neutral's perspective.

However Beasley's "disallowed" goal was a travesty.

USA deserved to win that. Now in order to qualify USA need to beat Ghana AND Itally need to beat Czech Republic.

From an official standpoint, Meedermow is right I guess, but IMO the ref was a f**king idiot.

Though, like I say - nothing wrong with the Beasley goal - but that was the linesman, not the ref.

Either way, USA should have 3 points. They played really well. I think qualification is still in reach, although now they are depending on other teams as well as their own.

Well that was really amazing. Even though they had two out of the field (Italy without one of the players), they were able to hold that game and got a draw. Now USA will face Ghana, and who knows, they might win and go for 4 points. Italy SHOULD be able to beat the Czechs, and they'll remain with 3, so USA has very good chances of moving into the second round, where they'll most likely face... Brazil.

NO KIDDING. U.S.A. EVEN PLAYED WITH NINE PLAYERS FOR A GOOD PORTION OF THE GAME.

From foxsports.com:

For the Americans to advance, they must defeat Ghana in their last game. In addition to beating Ghana, the U.S. team needs one of these scenarios to take place:

1. Italy defeats the Czech Republic.

2. Italy ties the Czech Republic 0-0 or 1-1 AND the United States beats Ghana by at least four goals.

3. Italy ties the Czech Republic 2-2 or with a higher score AND the United States beats Ghana by five or more goals.

4. Italy ties the Czech Republic 2-2 or with a higher score AND the United States beats Ghana by four goals AND the U.S. team scores at least three goals more than the Czechs do in their tie.

5. The Czech Republic beats Italy AND the total combined margin of victory for the Americans and Czechs is six or more.

6. The Czech Republic beats Italy AND the total combined margin of victory for the Americans and Czechs is five AND the U.S. team scores at least three goals more than the Italians do in their loss.

7. The Czech Republic beats Italy AND the total combined margin of victory for the Americans and Czechs is five AND the U.S. team scores exactly two more goals than the Italians do in their loss AND the Americans win a drawing of lots by FIFA.

Bizarrely not - according to the ref's report it was that McBride was "interfering" with play - like he could have done anything else !

^ was it the one with the USA forward blocking the view of the goalkeeper whilst standing in an offside position?

I did feel like he participated on that play, he sort of pushed the ball behind him, didn't he? Since there were no italian players closer to the goal line than him, the goal was not valid.

They do look very good...
Due to the way the draw is split, we can only meet Argentina in the final. I heard a report from Argentina that the team they fear the most is England (obviously haven't been watching our recent form!)

Probably because Owen terrorised their defence in 1998 (even though they went on to win on penalties), and we sent them home in 2002.

Wish Owen could find that kind of form again.

Once again Brazil did a pathetic game, and Ronaldo was kept in the field for too long. praises for Kaka, the only one who even tried. Adriano and Fred all had luck. Robinho did a better game than usual, and almost scored himself.

OK, all you football-happy people. Please help me understand something about this "world sport".

I've been watching most of the games because my little brother is a huge fan of the World Cup - and a Brasil fanatic at that. I think football is a fun and entertaining sport, but I really hate the way I'm seeing it played and officiated.

First of all, why is it that every single player that falls down has to pretend his leg is broken or something? I've seen more Oscar-winning performances in the last week that at the last Academy Awards. Do the refs really call fouls depending on how bad the player on the ground rolls and moans? Seriously, taking dives like that just seems pathetic and cowardly in the eyes of this American and many more like me. In fact, I was watching the Stanley Cup finals last night, and a guy got a penalty just for taking a dive. What a difference a rule like that would make in the World Cup....

Secondly, what was up with the officiating in that USA-Italy game? The red card on Italy was completely justified - a deliberate elbow to the face that drew blood. But come on, two red cards against the US for slide tackles? Please. Stuff like that has been going on this entire World Cup and is a yellow card at absolute worst. The red card against Pope you could make a case for it's justability since it was a second yellow card, but the first one was just a cheap way to level the playing field. They really did their best to give that game to the Italians, but the US found a way to keep it tied.

If FIFA really wants the United States to become more interested in soccer, and you know they do because of all the money and exposure they would receive, they're going to have to do a lot better than that. There's no way a ref like that should ever be officiating a World Cup match. As Marcella Balboa said at the end of the match, this should be the last game that ref ever does.

Now tell me, does anything I've said even make sense to anyone outside the US? Or are you still baffled why we don't like soccer?
