Am new to this forum - have read all your posts. Good work people! Unfortunately don't have the technology to be able to download and burn copies of the films - can someone tell me how to get the DVDs? Am good for all costs. First movie I ever saw was Star Wars (apparently I hid under the seat for the first bit). Am hanging out to see the films again as close as they can be to the theatrical release. Can someone help out?

First off, let me welcome you. Dig the name by the way.

Firstly you should do one thing: go to your profile page & check to make sure your Private Messages are turned to on.
Secondly, after that, get in touch with Rikter on the PM or his e-mail Rikter_Blaksvn at yahoo.com & he'll be able to help you out for sure.

Hi,

I'm new to the forum, and if someone could point me towards the Dr. Gonzo version of RoTJ and the Supplemental, I'd be thankful.

These are still the best transfers IMO. TR47 are not anarmorphic.

So I guess if you have a 16:9 HDTV go with Gonzos.
If you have a standard TV, use TR47s.

Just have a question.....I've looked into the Dr. Gonzo version and the TR47 version. Of the two, TR47 seems to have superior video quality, but it sounds like Dr. Gonzo has some more extras stuff. Can anyone shed some light as to what both sets offer (and if there really is a big different between the two sets). Thanks!

NI HAO, Basically the TR47 is if you have a Home Theater set up, (Way I watched them) since the sound is fantastic via Neo DTS 6.1 Matrix since it retains the original PCM audio from the laserdiscs. The Dr. Gonzo is good if you want the "Actual" preservation of the Laserdisc. That being it has all the original Laserdisc marks, commentaries (not all that great), sadly the sound and the picture are not the best if viewed on widescreen tv via DVI or composite, but on standard tvs its great. The sound could be better, my only true grudge with the set.
The TR47 set is great with picture quality and sound. No menus, (I have the original set, not the remix). The picture is great when viewed from composite and standard.
Hope this helps, and w00t! This was my first post!

Thank you very much Krycek87. I just have to say....off topic....that I've only been following these boards for about a week, and yesterday was my first time posting and everyone has been very welcoming and great to talk to! I'm sure I'll be sticking around these boards for a long time to come.

I've been watching the forum here for a while, and one thing that I've not seen much of, with a few exceptions, are screenshots of the DVD menus on fan-produced preservation of the OT. I've started a thread under the "Preservation And Fan Edits" heading in hopes that people might post screenshots here just for comparison purposes. Hopefully, I am not the only person interested in the stylistic directions that the folks working on these various productions take, so please, if you have a completed fan preservation, post a few screenshots of what your menus look like, as many of these are often little works of art in and of themselves.

Ehh.. sorry to say, but it's just the other way around. TR47 still is the sharpest version with the best sound, but since it is not anamorphic and Dr. Gonzo's is, on a widescreen TV Dr. Gonzo will look ten times better than TR47. And though the Dr. Gonzo sound is AC3 and the TR47 is PCM, the quality difference is barely noticeable. If you have a 4:3 TV screen TR47 is the best choice, if you have a widescreen TV go for Dr. Gonzo or Farsight (which is also anamorphic).

That's no moon. It's a LaserDisc.

Hey there all,

Got copies of the Dr Gonzo discs a couple of weeks ago, as well as one of the Moth3r disks (which is great for PAL viewers like myself) and had a mini festival with friends at my house - we had a ball!!!! There is nothing like a 16:9 ratio, Han Solo shooting first, Jabba's in-house puppet band and "you rebel scum".

Thanks again to all of you, this is a great community and all of you have been unreasonably good to me.

Keep up the good work.

Lucas has GOT to give in one day ... witholding these films punishing the fans - what is up with that?
I'm altering the bargain. Pray I don't alter it any further...

Not doing any calculations, but I think it would be a struggle to fit video with an average bitrate of above 5000kbps and two soundtracks (commentary + main) onto a single layer DVDR.

Also, stating the average bitrate is somewhere between 5 and 8 Mbps is akin to saying "the running time of this movie is between 80 minutes and 2 hours." It doesn't really impart any useful information.

Information I have states that the average bitrate is around 4340kbps, but I can't remember where this came from.

:: EDIT - That's for ANH, of course ESB and particulaly ROTJ will be lower because they are longer films.

Cheers for the info Moth3r - am learning something new everyday

Hope your own set version is going well - only ROJ to go now? Am very much looking forward to getting my hands on the finished set.

Does your set have commentaries, easter eggs, subtitles etc ?

I was hoping someone could upload Gonzo's ROTJ to alt.binaries.starwars. I haven't seen it on there for a while. Any help would be great!

It was on either Demonoid or Piratebay, I can't remember which, called something like original star wars trilogy, and not Dr. Gonzo Trilogy. It even had the bonus disc. I don't know if they are still out there with seeders though.

I think it was Demonoid, but I don't remember the details, either.
