Yes it should make watching your AVI videos much easier.

I saw a Dual model in Asda for £40 the other week. Is that the one you saw?

Don't think so.

I saw it in Comet when buying a new fridge---oooh exciting----It was a Philips and was around £60. It said on the top that it played Mpeg 4 and Divx, but my missus weren't too happy about me buying another dvd player just to watch Lost, even though she loves more than I.
But then I saw another cheapo in Tesco's that palyed PAL and NTSC, which I take it to mean Region 1?? Is that right??

No, region coding and PAL/NTSC formatting are two different things.

It's true that Region 1 discs (US/Canada) are NTSC. However, Japan is Region 2, like the UK, but they use NTSC instead of PAL. "Home" created discs are Region 0 and can be either format.

I got myself a Toshiba SD350E just before Xmas - multiregional and will play divx & mpeg - £70 delivered from amazon.co.uk, here:-

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0009IF1Z2/qid%3D1138121872/203-5921724-2026345

though I'm sure it can be found cheaper elsewhere or on ebay...

It's a pretty sleek machine, great picture, no noise from the player itself, alsways found Toshibas to be decent make - no problems with it at all - plays Lost & BSG no probs m8

Also has fancy words - hdmi, upscaling, co-axial outputs, component output, PAL progressive, etc - no idea what they do, but I suppose it's all good stuff

Hacks are easy enought to come by if it isn't region-free out of the box. In most cases, all you have to do is download the hack, burn it to a CD-R and follow the on-screen instructions after you pop it in the player. That's how I'm able to watch my Region 2-4 box of Fawlty Towers.

Hi m8 - at the time amazon didn't do a readily multiregional 350e - so mine did not come as multiregion, but I knew of a hack available from the superb www.dvdrhelp.com website - 15 seconds and a few button presses later it was done

Your will come as multiregional - as advertised on the blurb - if not the hack for it is here:-

^ 'tis an excellent site - with forums - loads of info on the rarest of players, mainly provided by the users themselves

That's the site where I got the hack for my Zenith. Unfortunately, I have yet to secure a decent hack for my Philips DVD/VCR combo.

I've tried all those. Nothing works...yet. I know some of the sites have posted links for firmware upgrades and such, but these don't change the region coding.

Sorted!

Cheers guys!

I now have a multi region player that plays my bloody Lost in sync

Thanks for the help, and for the point in the right direction Jason.

Oh and thanks for the other things too. I'll sit and watch over the next week and give you my opinion.
