The New Doctor Who

I've been away for a while, so this is kinda old news, but on Christmas Day BBC1 aired a Doctpr Who Christmas special starring David Tennant as The Doctor. I'm a sort of closet Doctor Who fan, and I really enjoyed it. I really liked Tennant's Doctor and I'm looking forward to seeing him in a new series. I also think the new Doctor's dress sense is much more befitting of a timelord than Chistopher Eccleston's leather jacket (not that it really matters). Did anybody else see the show or have any comments?

I take it the Christmas Special wasn't 'Abducted By The Daleks'?

Sad to say I missed it, though will hopefully be acquiring it soon. Thought Eccleston's Who did a great job in bringing the style of Who up to date (as it were), should be interesting to see how the 2nd series does under Tennant.

Yeah, I thought Eccleston done a good job too and I was pretty peeved he quit because I thought all the good work would be for nothing and the series would die, but it looks like they are making the most of Eccleston's departure by playing on the fact that he looks different and nobody recognises him, until he gets down to business and his actions show that he is definietly the doctor.

P.S Jason, can't reply to PMs, but I don't actually have Rikter's postal address. You need to talk to PSYCHO_DAYV.

I do hope that this series we'll have some non-Earth based eps - though I suppose that may depend on budgets and filming times etc.

Hope the rumours of K9 returning are true - will be cool to see what they've come up with - an exact relpica, or a more 'modern' version.

cheers for the reply re Rikter.

I thought Christopher Eccleston made an excellent Doctor Who, and definitely carried the show. It was an impressive performance, but the show was still Dr Who - still rough around the edges, and still very British (or Welsh ); not like the Americanization attempt featuring Paul McGann.

As for David Tennant, hard to tell. He was 'unconscious' for most of the Christmas episode, and when he came alive, he seemed to be aping some of Eccleston's goofiness/humor. Although I liked his more serious moment at the end with the Prime Minister.

I'll reserve judgement til he has a whole episode of his own.

My wife doesn't like him because she thinks he looks like a weasel

I'm looking forward to the new series. Yes, K-9 returns (in Episode 3) with Sarah Jane. I'm also looking forward to the return of the Cybermen, although I'm not really wowed by the new design. I always preferred the Cybermen to the Daleks for some reason. I wish they had been a little more adventurous with the Dalek design too.

As for less 'Earth' stories, I believe the scripts include more 'alien world' stories. Personally, I just want to get away from Earth for less Mickey and less of Rose's annoying mum.

Hehe, as an aside, whilst looking up info for this reply, I noticed this wallpaper and was amused.

No sign of it on the horizon on BBC America or any other network.

It is released in the US on DVD on February 14. Here is the artwork.

How quickly things change.

The DVD Set has been delayed to July.. For a good reason I guess. Sci-Fi Channel has picked up the broadcast of Dr Who. It is probably still being released in Canada on February 14 as it has already been broadcast in Canada.

I've heard that it will be the same exact design, just made to look aged (a rusty K-9? )

Wouldn't Britain be in a different DVD region?

Yes, that's true - I forget that not everyone has a multi-region player.

^^ most new dvd players can be made 'multiregional' - often by simply pressing a few buttons on the remote control.

check wwwv.dvdrhelp.com to see which dvdplayers can be made to play any region discs.

^^ That was a f***ed up episode. Good joke at the end though, made me chuckle and quite riske for a kids show.

Saturdays was another Earthbound story.
That's what pisses me off about these new storys. 99% of them are on Earth, or new Earth, or Earths orbit.
He's in a space ship ffs, travel in space once in a while!!!

Glad Rose is going though. She's starting to get right on my tits!

Re. Earth-bound Doctor Who, I was disappointed by the Cybermen double episode. A few minutes in I was thinking "oh great, he thinks they're on a parrallel Earth but it's going to turn out to be Mondas".

Nope.

Earth.

Again.

Now that would be cool!

Who would you like to see step in to Roger Delgado's formidable place?

Let's forget about that phoney one in the Paul McGann one-off 'special'...

Well you can't do that if you're considering David Tennant to be the Tenth doctor. If you eliminate the Master from the Paul McGann special, you must eliminate the whole special and therefor you eliminate Paul McGann and therefor David Tennant is the ninth Doctor. Athough the Master from that special wasn't mush, I would have liked to seen more of Paul McGann as the Doctor.

I liked McGann as the Doctor. I liked his look too, and I liked how the inside of the Tardis looked like a ballroom in an old mansion or something, complete with chandelier. I was a bit disappointed when Eccleston regenerated into Tennant but the Tardis did not alter to reflect teh new doctor (perhaps this is something that happens later in the series?).
