Okay, what did we LIKE about the Special Editions? — Page 8

I am probably going to get a lot of hate from even mentioning this but I liked the 1997 version of the HanGreedo scene. Shame Lucas and DISNEY keep updating it.

in 2077, there is probably a “Super Hyper Mega Ultra Definitive Final Special Edition 100 Year Anniversary” where Greedo and Han both shoot at each other, missing for a total of 3 minutes before Greedo shoots in the wall and the laser bounces back to him and kills him.

Although people make fun of maclunkey (rightly so) I think there’s a way it could have been done to make the alterations to the Greedo scene much better. Since George was so intent on making Han appear like ‘less of a killer’ in the 1997 SE this is my idea for how it should have been done.

The scene plays out the same as it does in the theatrical version up until the “I’ll bet you have” shot. Immediately after this shot is the maclunkey shot but with the translated dialogue in subtitles “This will be the end of you” with the gunshot and smoke in the same shot. We then cut back to the theatrical with Greedo slumping to the table.

This way we put more of an emphasis on Greedo about to kill Han and it also doesn’t interrupt the flow of the sequence. I personally think the sequence should have never been altered at all, but if we accept that it had to be changed I think would have been an improvement over the 1997 SE version of the shot which is by far the worse out of the 5 versions we’ve had.

I have nothing against the changes in general, even the Han shot first thing. What I don’t like is the horrible CGI. They look way more dated than the originals.

Not sure if I’m the right to person to answer this question because I saw the 1997 Special Editions way before I ever saw the original cuts but I do prefer many of the VFX touch-ups and Victory Celebration at the end of ROTJ does more for me than yub-nub.

about the 1997 version DVD which was mentioned earlier: it was released on DVD as a part of Fox’s Five Star collection set. I have heard most people criticise this DVD, but because I have even after 2 years, found no copy of this widescreen home media 1997 version, I can not say anything.

It was not an official release by Fox at all - it was a bootleg.

Many of the older members on here still likely have this set from Far East Asia - it was a decent quality bootleg at the time… and was considered to be amongst the higher-rated bootlegs from that era.

The ‘Five Star’ release was a laserdisc-to-DVD transfer, in letterbox widescreen, each OT film being on a DVD9 disc, and despite the cover claiming it had ‘5.1 DTS’ audio… it did not. Though it did have a few nice extras on the discs - a menu screen with options! A 1997 SE film trailer, chapter selection, subtitle options, and audio options.

The 1997 SE ‘Five Star’ DVD bootlegs - as well as 15+ other 1997 Special Edition projects are all available here:-

📍 250+ available Original Trilogy Preservations - some from a long time ago . . . . 📍

Your trolling… within your 1997SE project, unwillingness to provide sources for it, your repeated nonsensical and vague claims - despite being informed & corrected by many on here and TSWT (who have proven time and time again you have little grasp of facts & history - and you being completely unwilling to learn from them), as well as you kicking off at the mods on TSWT resulting in your ban… made that an easy decision.

Maybe you’ll find them elsewhere online - good luck with that.

well, that was rudely said. I have responded to all questions that have been given to me, and am constructing a new restoration without the old sources. the reason I did the restorations in the first place was that none of the 1997 version torrents etc worked, so I had to make my own. I have followed all guidelines and am not going to try to unban myself in the other forum, as it has no meaning to me. I have not trolled anyone, but it is rather the community’s accusations.I have mentioned the majority of my sources. this community is actively trying to frame me, which is disappointing to me. I have already apologised a million times about the possible mistakes I have made, and have done everything possible to satisfy the community. whether do you forgive me or not, you all keep bringing up the solved mistakes of mine, which I have already apologised for and done something different. I am very surprised that one long term restoration project of mine is getting so much hate just because I don’t provide information the same way as many accounts you are familiar with.

therefore I am very frustrated that I am being discriminated here regardless of the countless apologies I have given. I would absolutely be willing to request a copy of those versions, but because this community is so much “one chance only”, I think it would be useless anyways. the community’s actions have proven to me that this forum is not the forum I thought it was.

You make the above 2 posts, ignore me letting you know I won’t be giving you the project links, and then send me a PM asking for the 1997SE Five Star preservation once again!

The easiest and simplest thing for you to do is… actually list the sources of your project, apologise for any miscommunication or issues / incorrect claims, apologise to TSWT mods, and simply post a few screenshots a preview video of your project. Plus knock it off with the wronged victim / ‘being discriminated against’ act.

Then someone may be so inclined to help you out with what you’re looking for - but do NOT send me another PM.
