What are your hopes and expectations (if any) for how the event will be marked and celebrated that year?
Of course, I hope they pull out all the stops for the 50th anniversary… and we finally see a high quality official release for the unaltered theatrical cuts of the Original Trilogy - in HD/UHD/4K etc… though I won’t be holding my breath.
Even a long-awaited official release of the 1997 Special Editions cuts on a modern home format would be welcome (despite Lucasfilm always having pristine prints available and at the ready… the 1997 SE version has never been released in HD/UHD/4K etc).
We’ll likely have like a repackaged ‘super box-set’ release of the 2019 SE ‘Maclunkey’ cuts to mark the anniversary instead?
A new documentary perhaps? Along with likely more disingenuous / revisionist claims and mythologizing from George.
Plus the usual array of ‘50th anniversary’ labelled merch. As well as rebranded reprints of the old comics and books etc.
Maybe a limited theatrical run for the 3 Original Trilogy films? (although it would likely be the 2019 SE ‘Maclunkey’ cuts actually screened to somehow promoted and celebrate the 50th anniversary - if other recent anniversary ‘re-runs’ are anything to go by…)
Star Wars Celebration 2027 takes place in LA - from the Thursday 1st to Sunday 4th April; at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
It should be a big event - and even feature some actual Original Trilogy (likely SE?) content… given it’ll be the 50th anniversary.
^ There was nothing at all on the OT for the main panels in Japan - even ILM’s 50th anniversary didn’t have anyone from the OT era.

A restored theatrical print for a wide re-release for the 50th is what I want. DCP, 70MM, AND 35mm. I don’t need to mention is needs to be Star Wars 1977 right and not any version after 1980.
Let’s also have the original 6 track magnetic audio at the basis for the 5.1 mix.
Basically zero hope (ironically) of anything new happening unless the BFI, who have a copy and also distribute plenty of classics on Blu-ray, somehow get to cut a deal.
Hopes:
Of course an official announcement that the OT Theatrical Cuts are going to be released from Lucas’ ego prison. Not gonna happen…
Expectations:
Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

There are already two movies announced, of which the second one premieres the same week as SW turns 50.
And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.
If they decide to re-release the movie, it would most likely be in April or around Star Wars Day (May 4), like they’ve done in recent years. It would be wonderful for Star Wars to be back in cinema screens the week it turns 50, but the date is just too good for new movies, so I wouldn’t expect it.
