Very interested in these edits! Did you ever end up returning to them and making a v 2.0 based on the feedback so far?

Hello all, and I hope everyone had a safe and happy holidays! It’s hard to believe it’s been exactly (4) years since I released my GoT S7/S8 edit. It’s actually been a while since I’ve made a post on here, aside from confirming PMs being sent for the edit link. A lot has happened in my life since covid, from job changes to some family health issues (multiple hospital stays for my daughter and a few surgeries for my wife who fought and beat breast cancer!).

I appreciate all the feedback I’ve received from the edit, and many of your comments were spot on. I’m happy to say things have settled down enough in my life where I finally had a chance to look at GoT again over the holiday break. I actually wanted to mention two things…

  1. First, the big piece of news concerning this thread is that the itch to work on something GoT again got me back into looking at my old project files for S7/S8. I’m happy to report that I’m finishing up my long-awaited edits for a “Version 2”. The original 10-episode arc I made will remain, in case some of you like things as is. However, after my latest watch, I just can’t leave things as is, particularly for the wight plot, and also the “The Lion’s Den” episode “at the gates”. Version 1 worked well enough for a lack of editable content, but as some of you have mentioned, ultimately there are some pieces I’ve concluded are better left alone (as to not hurt the story). Version 2 will now expand to an 11-episode season 7. Some notable changes/additions:

-Episode 5 will now be titled “What Honor Demands”, in reference to Sansa’s dialogue in the Littlefinger execution scene. This episode previously was a good portion of the old “The Lion’s Den” episode, but I’ve now moved all the Littlefinger parts to the episode to conclude his story and pushed all the KL stuff out of it.
-Episode 6 will now see our heroes head “Into the North” to actually capture a wight, then we return to “The Lion’s Den” in episode 7, which now opens with all the previously cut dragonpit content from the original The Dragon and the Wolf episode. All of the stuff at the gates has been cut as we leave the dragonpit scenes and pick up with the end of the original “The Lion’s Den” episode with Euron surprising Dany in her return to Dragonstone.
-Episode 8 will be largely intact as the original “Blinded By Fire”, but Jon and company have been added back in for some shots since they are no longer north of the wall as in my original edit. And the episode now ends with the Night King destroying the wall instead of at the end of “Into the North” (which now has the original ending with Viserion’s blue eye opening).
-The remaining episodes 9-11 may also have some minor changes based on feedback, but the biggest change may be adding the quieter Arya indoor scenes back into “The Night Is Dark”. I just like the balance with this episode and the concluding “And Full of Terrors” both being around 58 minutes instead of the latter being much longer.
-Overall, this Version 2 is going to tell a more cohesive story, even if I’d prefer there were ways to edit it differently. I still don’t like the wight plot, and there isn’t a good way edit-wise to satisfy Dany “believing” over Cersei, so it just makes the most sense to put the original plot line back in and smooth over some of the stuff at the gates that came across admittedly a little rougher than I would have liked.

  1. Second, I always thought it would be interesting to see how a GoT story would play out with Westeros vs Essos. I’ve seen the show through multiple times from start to finish – and some of you may feel the same way I do when watching it – but… the Daenerys storyline over the first 6 seasons always felt out of place to me. You watch all the events happening in Westeros, then you cut to Essos and it sometimes seems like a different show, at least to me. Maybe it’s the setting/climate, but I always wondered how the show would look if it told a constant Westeros story, then told the Essos story together separately. Well, I also did this over the break. To keep the Essos content rolling, I created what is essentially a “Khaleesi trilogy” – (3) separate movies (each in the 2 hr 20+ min range) that take place around the normal Westeros seasons, which have the appropriate dialogue edits to maintain the continuity of the story. This was a little tricky to accomplish, but I think I’ve done it. The new way to watch the show would be essentially:

-Westeros Season 1
-Khaleesi Part 1
-Westeros Season 2
-Westeros Season 3
-Westeros Season 4
-Khaleesi Part 2
-Westeros Season 5
-Khaleesi Part 3
-Westeros Season 6

I’m in the process of watching down the new edit of the show now, but if all looks good, I hope to share with you all too (possibly as a new project thread). These new edits for seasons 1-6 also include a number of extended/deleted scenes restored. More to come on this later.

Anyway, that’s it for the long post, I just wanted to give the faithful fans an update on where things were heading. The plan is to post all of this new content in the same folder edit, so it should eventually be available to everyone who has the prior link. I’ll keep you all updated on progress and when the new stuff is ready to download/watch.

The long-awaited V.2 of my Season 7/8 edit is finally available. Episodes 1-3 didn’t have any changes but I’ve made edits to the remaining eps (some extensive), including extending to 11 episodes (as previously mentioned). The new episodes have been added to the existing folder on Mega, so those with the link from a prior PM should already have access to these. The original episodes 4-10 are still available too, I’ve just moved them to an ‘OLD VERSIONS’ folder. Let me know what you all think! And if anyone new wants to view, please PM me directly so I’ll get a notification from you (my time is pretty limited right now and it’s difficult to keep track of requests from this thread).
