But being a schlocky villain is what makes him so much fun! He’s evil and he loves it!

I think the idea of keeping Palpatine in the shadows could work if the heroes didn’t know it was Palpatine that was the main bad guy in charge. For that to be a reveal later in the film. Though I’m not sure that would be possible with the given material.

I agree with Spence. I think what amobex is trying to do is handle him like a movie monster where you don’t really get a good look at them until the end of the film to build up the mystery. That said, I’m not sure that really works with a character we’ve already seen in previous films. Yes, he looks a little more decrepit, but if you build it up like that people are gonna expect a lot more. Spence’s approach would give holding off his face reveal a purpose.

On an unrelated note, John Williams composed a wonderful theme for The Rise of Skywalker simply titled…The Rise of Skywalker. It’s a great theme that plays a bunch of times during the film but never really represents anything as far as I can tell unless you wanna argue it vaguely represents the Resistance’s sense of unity. What if we instead took that theme and sprinkled it throughout the trilogy to serve as Finn’s theme? He’s the only member of the main trio who lacks one. Even Rose got one and she’s only important in one film!

Oh and you know how the last film in the Saga closes on a Binary Sunset? Well we’ve heard the Force theme loads across the film so how 'bout get a bit of closure on that minor key with a major key rendition instead?

I’m not sure if I read this in this thread or another, but weren’t there attempts for Kylo/Ben to survive and go into exile in the end? (I know Acbagel in his Legends edit lets Kylo survive and Rey die, but I think there was some thought about both surviving as well).
Could someone point me to this?

Holdo’s kamikaze scene, while visually great, was not a good addition to the SW lore. Yes, yes, all the arguments have already been made, especially as this kind of overpowered attack would actually win the rebellion.

So…why not make that scene part of the final dogfight battle…and involve Luke.

Maybe something like:

Instead of dying after the Force projection, Luke pulls off the greatest Jedi trick and wipes out the fleet from afar and THEN dies. Proving size means nothing and the Jedi are one with everything, including space. He’s gone beyond sabers and fighting with lasers.

I really like that! It has me thinking… what if it were reordered so Luke has an (optional) force hologram moment, then dies, and then the battlefleet is wiped out, driving home Obi Wan’s words of “becoming more powerful than [one] could ever imagine?” I’m not entirely sure how one would indicate that the ship was his doing; probably an echoey voice for a couple lines.

(Of course, that would raise the question of why he wouldn’t destroy Exegol by himself afterward…)

What if we make the Throne Room scenes accure during the Battle of Crait?

That would certainly alleviate pacing issues, as the film as it stands feels like it has two final acts piled on to each other, which, combined with the runtime, makes it feel like movie really should’ve ended after the Holdo Maneuver.

Anyone have any ideas on how to reduce the RotJ retreading with the Throne Room scene? I feel like it’s too baked in so the only way to get rid of it would be to eliminate the scene entirely, and it’s too plot critical for that.

We could also add the ending of TLJ, The Battle of Crait to the Beginning of TROS if we wanted to

That’s a defensible option, given my TLJ edit overruns while my TRoS edit underruns. Alas, I’m not sure it would work narratively, as it’s the resolution for Luke’s arc. It’d be kinda weird ending TLJ with Luke still refusing to help then have him suddenly turn up for some reason at the start of the next one. It honestly might exasperate the issue people have with TRoS undoing TLJ.

Very tiny and unimportant idea, but in TLJ, instead of Luke calling the Jedi books the “ancient Jedi texts”, have him call them the “lost Jedi texts”. Take ‘lost’ from his TROS line, “And the war will be lost.”

There’s a few reasons behind this extremely minor change. The biggest reason being that it implies these texts were lost knowledge even to the Jedi of the prequel era, which would help explain why powers like force healing, force projection, or information like the existence of Exegol were unknown to them. (Tbh these things don’t really need to be explained, but this could be pointed to for those who needed that kind of question answered.)

It also kind of implies that the Empire destroyed all known information regarding the Jedi Order, and the only information Luke could find was knowledge that was even unknown to the Jedi.

You’re right that they don’t need to be explained, and the people asking for explanations for that will also want explanations for how the Holdo maneuver only works in that one particular circumstance and who Snoke is where Maz got Luke’s lightsaber and a billion other useless bits of visual dictionary filler.

Absolutely agree, but I still like this idea of reframing them more clearly as lost knowledge.

That’s a great idea! Which scene in TROS does he say “lost” in? I might use this in Stoic Edition.

Where he talks to Rey on Ach-To, “If you don’t face Palpatine, it would be the end of the Jedi, and the war would be lost.”

Is there a way to recolor Snoke into more Gray? I think he looks a lot better in TFA and the way he did in TLJ.

If Han Solo demands an answer to questions like this, then so do I.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I still think about your Ben Solo using Anakin’s lightsaber idea. ❤️

I get so exhausted thinking about ideas for the PT and ST. I just want to move on, but my brain can’t help but churn out ideas for them. Maybe it’s because I’ve loved Star Wars for so long it’s like the sunk cost fallacy. I’d like to help complete a solid Rey Nobody edit (which I think Spence has done with his edit), then do a fun Return of the Jedi edit, then move on from Star Wars. But honestly the idea of doing an entire Saga edit will always haunt me…
