I want to hear about casting. Which actress are they choosing to play Rogue Leader.

I know directors sometimes like to cast people they’ve worked with before, so here’s a few that have been in her movies. I wonder if one of two of them will show up?

Charlize Theron
Christina Ricci
Bruce Dern
Gal Gadot
Chris Pine
Robin Wright
Danny Huston
David Thewlis
Kristen Wiig
Pedro Pascal

Wouldn’t Pedro Pascal be a bit jarring as he’s already in The Mandalorian? He could always do a mo-cap character or something like that though. Favreau has after all played three separate SW characters so far.

I wondered if the explanation of scheduling conflicts was covering up for something, perhaps creative differences, or Lucasfilm not wanting to keep Patty Jenkins attached to the project after the critical reception of WW84 (similarly to how Josh Trank may have been dropped after Fantastic 4, the GOT directors may have been dropped after the final season, and Colin Trevorrow may have been dropped after Henry). I hoped not, because Rogue Squadron made me quite excited and I really didn’t want the movie to be cancelled.

According to reports, scheduling conflicts indeed aren’t the whole picture, but it’s nothing to be too worried about. According to this article from Jordan Maison, who’s been reliable in the past, LFL just want to fine tune the script and get the film right, which I’m glad to hear. This article also has some details about how Lucasfilm are approaching film productions at the minute, and about potential secret movies in the pipeline (which could take Rogue Squadron’s 2023 slot)

So, it’s looking possible we might not get a Star Wars film in 2023.

But we can’t turn back. Fear is their greatest defense. I doubt if the actual security there is any greater than it was on Aquilae or Sullust. And what there is is most likely directed towards a large-scale assault.

Would that be that KotOR thing they were rumored to be developing years ago? An original (decent) story I’d like, but if it’s just adapting KotOR (the bland one at that) then I can’t be bothered. Especially since in 2023 that KotOR remake is likely to be out. What’s the point?

“Skogland steps in for Patty Jenkins, who was attached to direct and is pivoting to a producing role. Jenkins fell off as director so she could focus on her next two projects: Wonder Woman 3 and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.”

Well, this confirms Rogue Squadron is still going ahead, which I’m excited about. Rumours about creative differences could have been totally false, we don’t know. But it does seem likely that Patty Jenkins really did take on too many projects and became overwhelmed.

So Patty Jenkins is still on board? Damn, why can’t they choose a competent director… 😕

I love Monster and the first Wonder Woman. I’m glad she’s still doing Rogue Squadron. I think it’s a great fit. That video sold me on it.

I think Patty’s a fantastic director, her writing skills have often been called into question because of WW84 but she isn’t writing Rogue Squadron.

Directors that made a movie named Monster(s) should have a Star Wars movie whose name starts with Rogue!

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

“If I had a nickel for every time a director who made a movie named Monster(s) got to make a Star Wars movie beginning with ‘Rogue’, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.”

I think I’m going to make a movie called The Monster.

“Not every day you get to chat with one of your favorite #StarWars authors. Great meeting Michael Stackpole who told me he was highly excited about the upcoming #RogueSquadron movie and assured me Patty Jenkins had been in contact with him early on.”

This pleases me very much. I loved the games and his X Wing and Rogue Squadron books, so I am pleased the film may have some input or advice from Michael Stackpole, even if only a little.

If the film does well then maybe a new tie-in game, or update of the old RS games too?

The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.

his needs to have the same level of cinematography as Top Gun for the dogfights or else I will be disappointed.

Factor 5 being dead for over a decade doesn’t help matters much in updating the old RS games (i.e., the source code is probably lost). If the code still exists, a publisher could port the game to modern systems, a la the Jedi Outcast/Jedi Academy and Republic Commando ports. If it doesn’t, a ROM of the original games running in a distinct Gamecube emulator would be acceptable.

We’re long past an age when Dolphin Emulator would turn into into a potato at the mere mention of the Rogue Squadron games.

“Never gonna get it, never gonna get it,”

This is a shame. 😕 I really was looking forward to this film, and with the new Disney schedule it looks like we won’t be seeing (at least for the next 5 years.)

I love the idea of these standalone stories from different directors, all with their different styles and ideas. I wonder if the Star Wars standalone idea is truly dead now, since it looks like there may be drama with Taika Waititi’s film too. We also can’t forget that the Kenobi and Boba Fett movies were also scrapped, partially due to the focus on making Dinsey+ series (which they obviously became.)

Move along, move along.

So its cancelled. And likely never to happen but they use the term shelved. Sure like those Rian Johnson movies are “shelved”.

It’s probably cheaper to produce tv series that are going to pack the Disney streaming channel content with events such as the Ben show. For them it’s a fair deal, and currrent audiences are getting used to this “movie to tv series” trend. Disney has produced 5 SW flicks for Theathers, among them only 2 got smooth productions (TFA as it was triggering some excitement, TLJ being done a bit under the radar), while 3 went to hell (R1 and its heavy reshots, Solo being reshaped with late change of directors, TROS which looks like something no one wanted to do). Issue is that the tv series themselves are now quite lackluster (Mando got its moments but Boba was a mess, Ben was a failure, Bad batch was mostly fillers driven, ad most of TCW S7 was very bad until the ROTS very good side story).

I would not say Obi-Wan was a failure… I’ve yet to come across someone in person who’s seen the show and doesn’t love it.

Guess you haven’t come across me or anyone I know has has watched the whole thing. I would go so far as to call it a Disappointing Failure from beginning to end.

I just mean that you can’t qualify something a failure if a minority of people think it failed. It would be a failure objectively speaking if the people who liked it were in the minority.

I don’t think we have the numbers on that…so I wouldn’t go claiming those who considered it low quality were in the “minority”.
