Hopefully the posts, thoughts, and suggestions by members on here who took the time out to engage and illustrate that to you will also sink in.

I owe you a coffee my friend. Thank you for ending the nightmare 😂

As for rescoring ideas, using the Across the Stars violin arrangement from the Anne Sophie-Mutter album of the same name could make a nice change of pace.

I just thought of a change to ROTS here, but I was wondering if it was at all possible to do in an edit, and if anyone had tried it before.

It seems like it would be possible through cuts. Here’s what I’m imagining - The end of the film is changed so Anakin never murders the Younglings or even goes to the temple. He leaves directly for Mustafar to end the war, and Order 66 happens en-route. Obi-wan then concocts the Youngling killing lie to get Padme to go to Anakin, whereupon they have their tragic fight.

This is an excellent idea! I am not aware of this having been done, but it does sound like it would be achievable with cuts.

It would make for a more tragic ending, as you say, and I am all for Obi-Wan turning a little villainous at this point in the film. The audience should feel a sense of betrayal with his character here, since he failed to prevent Anakin from becoming Vader.

Though I’d miss the shots of Anakin marching with the 501st on the Temple, this change would make Anakin’s character arc flow better overall. For me, his tragic turn is too sudden in the original film, for Anakin to go from being tempted by the dark side to killing younglings. Some edits attempt to alleviate this by removing the scene with Anakin in the Temple, but your idea addresses this in terms of the plot, and so would be more effective.

I vividly recall my first viewing of ROTS and being on board with Palpatine whispering in Anakin’s ear about how the Jedi are flawed and the Dark Side could grant good effects if only the Jedi would allow them. I thought it was a really smart way to go about Anakin’s turn.

But then we get to Mace’s death scene and all of that goes out the window as Anakin cartoonishly pledges himself to Monster Mash and vows to murder all the children. It’s just so out of left field that I mentally checked out and threw the prequels in the garbage because of that scene.

So if this change were to be achieved, it’s not hyperbole to say that for me it would almost single-handedly save the prequels.

Monster Mash is spot on! 😆 This bothers me as well, but Hal’s edit seems to me the most this ghoulish bit with Palpatine can be reduced.

The more I think about your idea the more sense it makes. It should be simple enough in terms of edits, but it’s a radical cut in terms of plot. Especially by removing the child killing, since up to the confrontation on Mustafar the audience should still believe (with Padme) that Anakin can be redeemed.

If it’s ok with you, I may give this idea a shot when my editing setup is running again? Won’t be soon, but I’ll let you know.

Agreed, I’ve also found myself coming back to the idea since first reading about it.

It doesn’t even need to break wider canon, really. Having him not kill the kids IMMEDIATELY doesn’t mean that he wasn’t involved in later inquisitorial behaviour with a touch of child murder. It just means that we drop the element of “I have doubts about the Jedi” “OK how about becoming a child murderer?” “Yep.”

It’d need some additional VFX work, but if you went this route, you could potentially still use some of those scenes and shots, perhaps as a Marvel-style post-credits scene, where Anakin (now in the Vader armour) marches up to the Jedi temple, lighting his now-red lightsaber, before cutting to black. Implicitly, some time could have passed.

At least two things you would have to address. First, you would have to change the context of Padme’s scenes where she is watching the temple burn, wondering if Anakin is there, as well as her mentioning that to Anakin. This scene has to happen though in order for Anakin to tell Padme that he is going to Mustafar.

Maybe Padme heard about an attack at the Senate building and is reacting to that. Change to the dialogue perhaps? Then, her reaction to the temple burning could still be used, but now she is not crying over Anakin potentially being there, but by the transpiring events in general. The beginning of the end of the Republic.

Second, you would have to change the context of the security hologram Obi-Wan sees at the Jedi temple, since Anakin never went there in this version. Perhaps you could change some of the audio to imply that it is a security hologram of when Anakin saves Palpatine from Mace and submits to him.

The latter idea, changing the security hologram, would be quite effective. Having Padmé know that he’s bowed to the Sith Lord and taken the name Darth Vader (having been told it by Obi-Wan on their flight to Mustafar) would align nicely with her saying “I don’t know you any more”.

That would be a cool edit choice to try out.

Palps jacks off in order to force lightning the temple.

I’m just a simple man trying to make my way in the universe.

Star Wars has 3 eras: The eras are 1977-1983(pre Expanded Universe), (1983-2014) expanded universe, or (2014- now) Disney-bought version. Each are valid.

Heck, here’s an idea: use a text-to-speech Yoda voice to read the Swamps of Dagobah story!

I really liked the bonus feature of Jar-Jar dying on Alderaan from ANH:Revisited SD. Maybe the scene can be updated with new CGI so it doesn’t look like Earth exploding? This happened because of the Star Trek: Enterprise footage used in the scene.

Does anyone remember the mockup, probably by Paja, that had Palpatine kill the younglings instead? Just mute the word “Skywalker”, replace the shot of Anakin with a shot of Papa Palpy, and change the color of his lightsaber, and voila. This lets you keep the pretty essential scene of the attack on the Temple with Anakin killing literal children.

Killing kids in the first place is just an unfortunate consequence of the stupid Anakin being too old thing in the Phantom Menace. Cut that out, and you can cut out the younglings in Episode 2, and then there’s no younglings to be killed in Episode 3.
