Just hit May the Fourth here in Australia!

Happy Star Wars Day everybody!

Edit:

Does anybody else here think Star Wars day should be May 25th?

I do. I’ve decided that it’s too much fun to miss everyone go crazy about May the 4th. So May the 4th is May the 4th. And May 25th is Star Wars Day. (Except this year, when it will be May 21st.)

(It gets more complicated because May 25th is also Towel Day.)

Usually I don’t have time to watch movies, but with the pandemic keeping me home, I might celebrate on both days! May 4th will probably be the OT on laserdisc in pan & scan (since that’s how I saw them when I was a kid), and the 25th will likely be the Despecialized versions.

I tend to go with May 4th “observed”, May 25th “orthodox”.

May the 4th be with you.

One day we will have properly restored versions of the Original Unaltered Trilogy (OUT); or 1977, 1980, 1983 Theatrical released versions (Like 4K77,4K80 and 4K83); including Prequels. So that future generations can enjoy these historic films that changed cinema forever.

So, how long has this been a thing?

Or is it some clever Disney twitter ploy?

Happy Proper/Alternate/Second/Vintage Star Wars day!

I will be celebrating with the movie, some popcorn and a big pot of tea.

This was the first post the thread took me to. For a brief moment I thought Mark’s Down had returned.

It’s long concerned me how she just vanished into the ether like that. I miss her.

Right before the pandemic took hold in my part of the world we sold our house to move over 1500 miles for my job. The plan was to stay with some family (about 1/3 of the journey to the new place) for a few weeks while my wife and I took house hunting trips. Unfortunately that has become well over two months and counting. And with no school, all our belongings packed in storage, and stay-at-home orders we are constantly looking for ways to keep the kids occupied.

My father passed away unexpectedly in the first week of May one year ago. He was not a Star Wars fan himself, but the last thing he ever said to me (via text message) was “May the Fourth be with you.” I thought it would be nice to give my kids an awesome “Star Wars day” in his memory.

So on May 4th we spent all day doing Star Wars themed things. For breakfast we cooked “Princess Leia cinnamon hair buns”. Then we did Star Wars themed activity and sticker books followed by building a new Star Wars LEGO set. Afterwards we went outside and had an epic (but short-lived) battle in the “Endor” woods with some crummy* Rubies lightsabers that I got at the local party store. For lunch we cooked a “Jabba the Pizza the Hutt” and had “Yoda soda” to drink. Then we made and decorated “Wookiee cookies”. We spent the afternoon snuggled up on the kids’ bed watching 4K77 on my laptop and consuming WAY too much movie candy. My dad wasn’t a Star Wars fan, but he was a great dad and an amazing grandfather who loved going out of his way to do silly, fun stuff with his grandkids. It felt like a very appropriate way to remember him one year since his passing.

*seriously, these things shattered like glass after one or two whacks from a 4 year old…

Indeed - I’ll be using the 4th May to think up ways of how to celebrate Star Wars Day… the 25th May 😉

You should 😃

I choose not to - especially given how the ‘4th May pun becoming a Star Wars day’ thing came about. For many of us in the UK there is nothing to celebrate there. Though fair play to those that do.

Seems the ‘4th May’ thing has become a pun / thing to sell more tat for some - rather than celebrate Star Wars itself (something which Disney / Lucasfilm already does very well at - see Lucasfilm’s 50th anniversary so far for selling tat rather than celebrating the rich history of 50 years in film & tv etc) - just my personal opinion.

There are obvious reasons why Lucasfilm get a little jittery and selective when discussing the history of Star Wars - as the first three OT films in their original form which underpin the whole of the GFFA… haven’t available to watch and experience for over 25 years now… (intentional substandard bonus DVD disc release in 2006, apart). That it is easier and more beneficial for them to market such anniversaries / dates as exercises in selling new or discounted merch - rather than celebrate and highlight how they made the films… which brings the focus back around to the many changes made to them over time; and many of the original scenes no longer being available to view and enjoy (not forgetting the effort, skill & craftsmanship that went into them).

Some fans will likely prefer to celebrate the 25th May instead - for various reasons - which has been the case for many a fan on here over the years.

Though as above, fair play to those celebrate both dates.

Lovely. I think I’ll get Dark Forces II, Shadows of the Empire, Republic Commando and maybe Rogue Squadron on Steam. Haven’t played any of them yet.

I’m really excited to play Jedi Fallen Order one day, but I don’t have a console capable of running it right now. My PC is pretty old.

Aside from obviously watching the premiere of The Bad Batch on May 4th, this year may be the first time I postpone any actual traditions or celebration to May 25th, almost solely because of the things I’ve learnt since joining this site.

There are also 7/8 discussion threads to be found that celebrate the 25th May in the ‘Star Wars Anniversaries’ section of An Index & Help Thread for Original Trilogy Discussion.

For those celebrating today instead of the 25th, happy Star Wars day! I’m looking forward to watching episode 1 of The Bad Batch later on. I might even get to finish Charles Soule’s Light of the Jedi today too, which I really recommend, for a refreshing story in a completely new era.

We must have more SW pun days. Like…

May 1 - Mayndalorian Day
Then of course comes May2-D2 and May-3PO
May the 4th and Revenge of 5th
umm… I have a bad feeling about 6th?
.
.
.
May 25th - the real SW day

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

Happy Star Wars Day everyone (or whenever the 25th is in your time zone) 👍

A decent cigar, a few snifters of brandy, and screenings for adywan’s Star Wars Revisited, Puggo’s 16mm of Empire, and Harmy’s Despecialized for Return Of The Jedi… should see the day celebrated in good stead 🍷 🎂

Edit: Poor form that there was nothing at all on the official Star Wars website, SW twitter, SW facebook, Lucasfilm website, or Lucasfilm facebook (or other official SW/Lucasfilm sites) about the 25th May - especially given this year is Lucasfilm’s 50th anniversary.

Still, many on here - on social media and other Star Wars fan sites - seemed to celebrate the day just fine 👍
