To judge picture quality:
36" Sony Wega
51" Hitachi LCD Rear Projection TV
Sanyo Z1 Front Projector (approx 100" screen)

To judge sound quality:
Denon 3802 Receiver
Energy Veritas Speakers

All calibrated by AVIA.

You sound like you know what your doing

I would by far at this point suggest you!!!

Hey, TR47 you should seriously consider loaning him your DVD's for a week or so - I'm SURE that he'll mail them back to you fast!

TR47, Rikter is very respected here and has done a lot for the fans of star wars, including work with Magnolia. I appreciate what you have done by creating your set as well. Essentially were all on the same team enjoying what was once great. Please back off on him.

I wish all that equipment was mine! The majority of the equipment I listed above belongs to a good friend of mine, and one of the other televisions belongs to another friend. For review purposes I figured their equipment would make for a better comparison. The equipment that I actually own is listed below:

27" Mitsubishi TV
Pioneer 5-Disc DVD Player
Panasonic DMR-E30 DVD Recorder
Sony DA50ES Receiver
Energy Connoisseur C-2 Speakers
Energy RVSS Surround Speakers
Energy AC-300 Center Speaker
Energy Encore Subwoofer

EDIT: By the way, the dvd players that I will be using for the review will be the Panasonic CP72 and the Panasonic RP82 (both of which use the Faroudja chipset).

Some very impressive tv and dvd equipment being used here - which I suppose is good when coming to making a comparison about which set has the advantage over another.

I have to say though there are a fair few people out there with just a basic 28" or 32" widescreen tv with a low-mid range dvd player and no special speaker set-up etc - though maybe it's just me

Having both the anamorphic set and the TR47 (letterbox) sets I have to say from a picture point of view I prefer the anamorphic set as it fits better on a widescreen tv - though this is just my personal preference. Sound wise the TR47 set is a lot better than the anamorphic set - YET that by no means should give people the impression the sound on the anamorphics set is poor, it is not - it's just not quite as good.

As for the dual-layer set - a fair few people on here - whose opinions I respect - would have to be impressed with it before I'd consider buying it. For me, I won't bother with the current dual-layer release. Though I do look forward to seeing the work of Laserman and others doing a similar job when their workings are finished.

A little patience goes a long way on this old-school Rebel base. If you are having issues finding what you are looking for, these will be of some help…

Yay, hometheater stuff!

My system:

34" Toshiba HD Widescreen television
Pioneer 5-Disc Progressive scan dvd
Dolby Digital 5.1 Pioneer tuner/amp (I always confuse these two terms)
JBL speakers (2 front towers, center channel, 2 rear channels)
Subwoofer, but the specs escape me for that one

so yeah, anyone who wants to send me stuff for unbiased opinions (I will of course return said "stuff"), like I'm gonna say no

I'll be reviewing the TR-47 and Anamorphic sets properly soon. I'll do it with a friend, or if possibly a small group; so that it's not just one person's opinion but the group's opinion with individual opinions too. I'm going to try and get some inferior sets as well so I can see how much the quality has improved since they came out. Now depending on where we do it, will depend on the exact equipment used, as we'd want to use the best equipment that's at our disposal. Hey a friend of mine's come home from Greece today... woot woot! I'll have to press him for stories later...

Everyone,

I was one of the first to review the dual layered set a while ago. While my review is less technical, it pretty much matches TR47's review. The dual layered set's quality doesn't come anywhere near the TR47 or the Anamorphic sets. The actual manufacturers of the dual layered set had a chance to create what we have all been waiting for, but they just blew it. Particularly annoying was the interlacing problem. Stick with the TR47 or Anamorphic for now until a DIFFERENT dual layered set surfaces.

Your actually better off watching these bootlegs on a smaller TV. Anything too big will just make all the bad things about the picture stand out that much more. NOT THAT THE PICTURE IS BAD....the sorce matterial can only be as good as laserdisc. If you blow one of these DVD's up to 92' it's not going to look very good compaired to a 27" crap TV. It will always look better on a smaller screen. That's just how it goes.

It won't look bad but it won't look great either.

This is the most true statement about these or any of the DVD/DVDr versions.

And that's a Fact

that's true... but to be honest... i have a 92" screen and projector and it doesnt look as bad as you may think...
sure it doesnt look like it would on a smaller television screen but if you sit back at a fair distance it looks pretty damn good to me...

I have a 92" screen also. Actually it's bigger but it's framed to 92" by black felt.

Anyway it does look good but if you want the best picture out of these a smaller TV is better.

Sense everyone else is talking about their systems I have to brag too

It wasn't meant as an attack, I just don't like it when people post false or incorrect info because they haven't bothered to do their research. No offense was intended.

Of course, what do I have but a 13" composite monitor (C64/Apple ][ style), and a cheap DVD player... LOL

why dont we think for a second...

if all we want is the best version of the movies outthere why dont we all work together on this...
use TR47's transfer... the special features from the anamorphics... get someone to come up with a kick ass menu design...
and then put all of these together??
it seems like people are trying to compete with one another....
why not come together???

This is one the worst threads I've seen on this board.

1. The original poster messes up 3 links beyond all recognition.
2. Corrected link has no point to it.
3. Original poster is selling these.
4. Official DVD's are coming out in less than a month... you can't for wait for someone to create an Original Trilogy/2004 edition hybrid?

"you can't for wait for someone to create an Original Trilogy/2004 edition hybrid?"

The technical requirements and time necessary to correctly match different versions would be ridiculous. It would stick out like old rims on a Rolls Royce. If you knew anything about the capture/edit/mastering of DVDs, you'd know this.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

It's hard to beileve this is the worst thread you've seen on this forum Faid. After all you've only been a member for a few weeks at most. I've seen some stupid threads on here and most of those are gone now.

Is that dumb ass one I started about ewoks pooping still up?
