Rogue One * Spoilers * Thread — Page 171

The Star Wars stories I would imagine as a kid were very much like the tone of Rogue One. That’s probably why I liked it so much.

I also cant say enough about the cast. I think they all turned in great performances. Mads Mikkelsen is one of my favorite actors. I love what Forest Whitaker did with Saw Gererra.

One of my favorite scenes is watching Jyn Erso receive her father’s message. Not much mattered to her up until then, but seeing her father again and hearing what he had to say just broke her open, and you can see it so clearly on the face of Felicity Jones.

I’m really looking forward to season 2 of The Mandalorian, and the Obi-Wan series, but the Cassian Andor series interest me the most. Rogue One showed us that the Rebellion wasn’t all squeaky clean. I want to see more of that.

Same. I only wish there was more Mission:Impossible-esque espionage & tension.
This shoulda’ been a trilogy.

A trilogy might have been a bit much, but it definitely would have been interesting to see what a Star Wars spy movie would have looked like. I’m happy with what we ended up getting though.

I’m hoping that’s what we get with the Cassian Andor series. Can’t wait!

The Lando series would be a better fit, if it ever happens.

So, now that we have the film in 4K, I very much hope the deepfake that fixes Leia will be redone.

I just watched the latest iteration. The mouth is still a bit wonky, but MAN does it look amazing.

It’s great, isn’t it?
I actually think the animation looks great. I LOVE that they dropped the weird smile at the end for something that looks much more like a performance by Carrie Fisher.

“I feel like maybe the new future of Star Wars is that kind of passing of the torch, rather than one person defining it all. It’s this thing that lots of artists and filmmakers can play with and bring their voice to. Like, we see different versions of that world. I think that’s more exciting.”

My favourite quote from the interview!

“Remember, the Force will be with you. Always.”

I think he’s right about that. I also think that’s why recent entries have been (for me) so much better than the Lucas films. Rogue One, The Mandolorian, and Visions have been as big to me as a fan as the 1970s. They aren’t tethered to that BS ”original vision” lie of Lucas.

Free of his smothering involvement, writers and directors have been able to explore the vastness of the GFFA. Similar to the way the EU novels have been for decades.

Without the distractingly bad Leia I noticed how Captain Antilles has the wrong voice.

John Knoll discusses technology and innovation on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’:-

ILM’s Publicity Group sits down with John Knoll to discuss the film’s five-year anniversary.

I loved the blend of CGI, real sets, and even kitbashing they used for the film…

Plus the fact there is still a decent model shop at ILM. As a kid it was so cool to know the film-makers were using the same models available to us in toy and model shops. (Obviously they were just a little bit better than us kids - and probably didn’t glue their fingers together, or tiny bits of kit to their fingers - as much as we did!)

“I can’t believe it’s been five years since #RogueOne was released. What a dream it was for me to play in the @StarWars universe with our fearless Red Leader, #GarethEdwards. I went back and found some hair / makeup / costume and lighting tests we did in the early days, as well as some iPhone snaps. Enjoy!! @lucasfilm @ilmvfx”:-

Greig Fraser Discusses His Work On Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The cinematographer for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, and Matt Reeve’s The Batman, joins Industrial Light & Magic’s Publicity Group to discuss his work on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Greig shares how the early Kenner action figures inspired his love of Star Wars, and the influences he found in 1970s cinema, the works of Andrei Tarkovsky, and the film The French Connection.

https://www.ilm.com/greig-fraser-discusses-rogue-one/

“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas

The behind the scenes make me appreciate the film a bit more.

It may not be my cup of tea, none of the Disney films are. But i can appreciate the art and artists behind the work.

The attention to detail on getting the look right to the original film is something rarely done these days.
