Heya! I’m the guy that made that~
Thanks for posting, I tried throwing it up on Reddit but it just got shit on so I deleted it ahah. Glad people here are enjoying it somewhat!

It took talent to get something to look this good, technically. While everyone seems very excited about this, someone has to come in with an alternate opinion to push for something better. The bottom line is with the footage used, Kylo looks fat, extra goofy, and is making a weird, kind of unnatural face. While Anakin looks somewhat wooden, Kylo looks like a cartoon. I know you wanted Kylo smiling, but if this is the best result possible with smiling, then maybe consider not smiling an option. For me, Anakin is not necessary at all.

Maybe we could try being constructive instead of calling Kylo a “fat cartoon” over and over.

For example, instead of saying “fat” you could say his face is a little too big for his head. I think the “weird, unnatural face” isn’t that weird, I’d actually say the problem is the face and the head nod combo that looks off - I think if you went with one or the other it might work better.

Im sure there are a lot of good shots of Adam smiling out there.

…I think it’s better to just remove the Rey Palpatine twist completely.

Yep very true. Also TFA and TLJ were better than TROS-- so retconning them to fit TROS instead of just fixing TROS is silly. Unless it excites you so much that Sheev fucks that you can’t bear to lose Rey Palpatine and Kylo’s terrible line “you’re a Palpatine.” How many alternate lines to you think Adam Driver recorded?

You’re a…

“Sith goddess”
“Kenobi-- complete with a British accent”
“Skywalker-- because Luke fucks”
“Product of Luke and Leia’s one night stand before they knew they were related”
“Lamp named Mary Sue”

heil Palpatine!

Glad to see someone is agreeing something about this looks off. And sorry if my wording didn’t seem constructive. I realize how much effort this took, and technically it’s quite good.

Also, maybe if someone had told Rian Johnson that Yoda looked pretty fucking fat (in a nice way), then he would have made him look less fat before releasing TJL. Or maybe Jedi heaven has lots of hamburgers idk. In any case I applaud the effort put forth so far on this. In addition I would make Kylo taller than Luke which might also help a bit.

Rian didn’t have the puppet anymore from ESB so they had to make a new one after the original model except either it was a little different or the camera angle was not ideal because our little green friend got visibly chunkier.

Ben looks like the studio put him there, not a fan, even if he does look a touch weird. If you’d presented this to me in the context of the movie I wouldn’t have questioned it.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I’m not sure how to take the wording of this comment? Are you saying that it looks really good or looks like the studio put it there?

Um…was the Dyad thing not the explanation [for Rey’s untrained Force-prowess]?

That didn’t seem to me to be the case. The dyad phenomenon got Palpatine’s attention because of the way he thought he could use Ben and Rey. It didn’t come across to me as explaining why Rey had the command of the Force that she did.

Also, the idea that a “nobody” can have such innate talent with the Force was kind of the whole point/message, wasn’t it? Bloodlines don’t matter, anyone can be the most important person in the galaxy?

“Innate talent” =/= command. Rey wasn’t merely “talented”; her actions indicated honing, which any talent requires to achieve its maximum potential. Yet the trilogy depicted no training for her ahead of time. This was a plot hole and indicative of Kathleen Kennedy’s hyper-feminism.

Okay, now you just sound like a whiner. Just because Rey has lots of power without training doesn’t mean that Darth Kathleen was trying to force her evil SJW agenda down your throat. And from what I remember, her powers where not “honed” at all. She almost crashed the Falcon, and nearly destroyed the Jedi temple when she first discovered the dark side. She had lots of power, but little command of those powers. So this just seems like a blatantly wrong interpretation of the movies.

My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:
I II III IV V VI VII VIII IX

imo everybody looked a little chunkier in Ep. 8 which would explain Ben Swolo, as any other shirtless image I’ve seen of Adam Driver doesn’t come close to the swoleness we see there. I remember somebody saying it’s because of the lenses Rian chose vs JJ, which makes sense because I personally feel like people look thinner in TFA and TROS.

No more of this shite in here, thank you.

I meant that it looks good. even if it is a little weird, it’s nothing that betrays the fact that it’s a fan edit, to me.

I was happy with Rey being no one, . . . I have to agree with Gothamknight, the Palpatine thing was better than constantly asserting that she has no history and no reason to exist.

In my reedit I’m going with “Rey Nobody” - except that she’s going to be an orphan taken in by Luke (and Mara Jade??) and trained by him before any of the events of TFA. At the end I’ll keep the “Rey Skywalker” conclusion because she views herself as having virtually been adopted by Luke, and thus part of his family.

Moderator Edit:-

From the opening post of this thread…

A quick reminder that the Star Wars Preservation and Star Wars Fan Edit sections of the site are NOT the places to bash on certain eras or aspects of the films, actors, film-makers or owners.

There are far more relevant threads in the Beyond the Original Trilogy or General Star Wars Discussion sections of the site to talk about this.

Critiquing a scene in the Star Wars Fan Edits section with the aim of improving it, removing it, altering it etc is perfectly fine. Statements such as ‘Disney sucks’ and ‘this film is so shit no Fan Edit can save it’ etc is not.

In addition, if a moderator requests you to stop with the topic of conversation then please do so - and do not continue to post about the subject.

Or then send the moderator an ignorant and accusatory PM.

Especially after ignoring the moderators’ PMs from earlier in the week…

This reminds me of early TFA theories about Rey being a former Jedi padawan that had her memory blocked through the Force, sorta like Revan.

. . . maybe Ben isn’t trying to use Vader’s helmet to somehow reconnect with Rey, but instead, he is trying to confirm what Palpatine told him, and the flood of painful memories and revelations inadvertently reconnects him with Rey, since those feelings are something they both shared. So not only could it be a more sympathetic angle for Ben to see how he was manipulated, but it could also give more clues as to how Palpatine survived.

Building on this, it occurs to me to imply throughout TFA and TLJ - and maybe a little in TROS - that Kylo’s trying to use the helmet to contact Vader’s spirit. Possibly some Vader lines from prior films but also other media, such as the Battlefront games, could be dubbed in to make Kylo think that contact has been made - but it turns out later that it was Palp manipulating him.

Yes, I think there is an opportunity to have Kylo receive a vision of Vader’s helmet in TFA, that could parallel Rey’s vision with the saber. As far as content of the vision goes, I think that just depends on what you want to accomplish. It could illustrate Kylo’s motivation for being on the dark side, and it could foreshadow Palpatine manipulating Kylo through the visage of Vader.

Does anyone have any ideas on how Artoo could be made to have a larger role? He’s barely featured and it really bothers me. It should have been Artoo with Rey on Tatooine. BB-8 is Poes droid.

I’ve considered having Artoo accidentally upload prequel era memories to C-3P0, I’m currently trying to figure out how this plays into the narrative. I feel the prequels need to be referenced in this film in a way that his substantial and meaningful; if I can tie this in with Artoo being more integral to the plot, that would be ideal.

I will work on having Threepio mention ‘Master Anakin’ after his memories are restored rather than Rey. It could be fun.

Also! I will work on the effects for the extended Luke and Leia fight
