Assuming he’s practical I can’t imagine him doing much more than standing around.

He could easily be done as a green screen rod puppet, the way Threepio was done in TPM and deleted scenes in AOTC.

Yeah fingers crossed he’s practical considering it’s probably cheaper to CG out the puppeteer rather than make him entirely CG ala K2. Or maybe they could do a hybrid of the two like for L3. Likely it will vary shot to shot depending on what he’s doing. I’d like to see him get more action in live action form.

If you readsome of the comments, it not only looks like R4-D4, but it is actually R4-D4, based off the burn mark where the restraining bolt used to be.

‘The Mandalorian’ Director Taika Waititi Says the First ‘Star Wars’ Live-Action Series is Close to the Original Trilogy…

https://www.slashfilm.com/the-mandalorian-details/

^ A few quotes from Taika in there - encouraging they are going for an OT vibe, and also the scale of the series too.

I’ve wanted a live action Star Wars series since 1977. The original Battlestar Galactica was fun, and I loved the old Buck Rogers show too, but nothing will compare to live action Star Wars every week! To think we have this and the Cassian Andor series too! Two series! Thank the maker!

Good to hear

Damage control, Taika says,“They know that the tone of the first films really should be kind of adhered to. That’s what the fans like and you can’t really disrespect it”

Good to read that someone finally gets it when making new Star Wars under Disney’s watch…the unspecific commentary on what many fans took issue with in TLJ is especially nice to hear. I’m sure he could also just be talking about jokes from a Marvel movie perspective but many people have attributed the humour in TLJ to being Marvel-esque (and therefore tonally out of place within the Star Wars universe):

The Original Trilogy Lives
“Star Wars is very different to Marvel style,” Waititi told press after a TCA panel for the What We Do In the Shadows TV series. “They know that the tone of the first films really should be kind of adhered to. That’s what the fans like and you can’t really disrespect it I guess is a nicer way of saying can’t put too many jokes in. There’s a bit, definitely my tone is in there, the dialogue and stuff like that.”

That’s good news for fans who might have worried a TV series could water down the movies, although nothing could be further from the original tone than the three prequels. Plus, Dave Filoni is involved and he managed consistency with his animated Star Wars shows.

Guy’s not throwing shade at TLJ. Taiki is know for comedy (and most recently making the most comedic Marvel film they’ve done yet) so he’s obviously just speaking from that perspective.

I find all these complaints about the humour in TLJ to be pretty weird. TFA was full of stupid comedy and everyone was praising Abrams for it.

“Everyone” didn’t. A lot of people complained about the humor in TFA, and it’s one of the aspects that gets trimmed a bunch in most fan edits.

Besides, the humor in TLJ takes a different approach than the humor in TFA for the most part (Hux suddenly being a punching bag, meta jokes like the iron gag - hell, the movie starts with a “yo momma” joke).

It’s less complaining that there is humor and more complaining about the type of humor.

Half of the humor had this smartass self aware vibe to that rubbed many people the wrong way. I think they were trying to imitate the OT style of humor, but it felt more like the MCU and Joss Whedon school of comedy, which is becoming dated and repetitive from a decade of overexposure.
The other half was BB-8 slapstick and Finn being a clown. I didn’t mind most of the BB-8 comedy, but I don’t think Finn’s dialogue should be as lighthearted, considering his backstory and character arc is pretty serious.
I personally think maybe about a third of the jokes in the Sequels landed. That’s certainly better than the Prequels (unless you retroactively count the dozens of quotes that have become memes), but the ANH, TESB and even Solo do it better imo.

I wondering if this series is also doubling as a test bed to see if certain directors can handle a Star Wars film?

Honestly I’m more excited for this than Episode IX, as I’ve been enjoying the non-main saga stuff more. Bring this on!

It hasn’t been officially announced yet, but “sources” are claiming Disney has Finn, Poe, Lando, and Qi’ra shows all in the works for the streaming service.

IG-88 voiced by Taika Waititi could turn out to be pretty interesting.

I wonder if they’re making IG-88 into a more sinister version of K2-SO, or if this is more like how Marton Csokas voiced Poggle in AOTC (so basically just a cameo).
