I’m one of the team members of the XWVM project, and while we have a pretty much playable version, we are still missing quite a few 3D models (which we are all building from scratch). For the videos we are using many models from the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade Project, which we are replacing piece by piece with our own models before release (since we are not allowed to keep all the XWAUP models in an eventual release, PLUS they don’t come with the level of detail we are aiming at, which is totally the old XWA engine’s fault). With the recent Lucasfilm C&D against the KOTOR-remake by Apeiron though we’ve decided to lay low for the time being, while also stripping the project from any copyright protected logos and names. So if you don’t mind, don’t advertise the project.

No, fair enough. We are just trying to avoid this being on major news sites.

What did everyone here think of the game adaptation of Revenge of the Sith? I personally wasn’t a fan of the PS2/Xbox version. I thought it was very repetitive in its gameplay, and I felt that it didn’t offer a whole lot to come back playing. The adaptation of the movie has many deviations. Some of the deviations are cool, and some of them were weird. Especially that Padmé doesn’t make a single appearance in the whole game! I actually got a bit of a kick out of the GBA/DS version, though. What did you all think of this game adaptation?

Very lazy money-grab game back in the day when they had to make every big movie into one. Zero value other than it had scenes from the movie before its premiere.

I thought Anakin’s turn to the Dark Side was portrayed even better in the game’s cutscenes than it was the the actual film. The alternate ending was also a nice edition.

Was Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron any good? I know it used some elements from the cancelled Free Radical SW:BF 3.

I bought another Jedi Challenges AR set to try multiplayer. And… it doesn’t really work. Single player is still fun and exciting half a year later, but unfortunately it doesn’t work for 2. Since the blades aren’t real, the game makes all the decisions when to attack and defend and how. It was pretty unclear to even know what exactly to do, and I got hit even though I went down to the ground. It was a mess. I didn’t try the other fight mode, though, just dueling.

I remember reading that Disney was unhappy with the way EA has handled the SW licence and was thinking of prematurely terminating their deal, but nothing new since.

I really hoped there was truth to that story.

I don’t think they’re legally able to just terminate the contract, unfortunately.

I love the movies and the animated series, and now we even have live action series on the way. There are books, and graphic novels, toys, collectibles shirts, cosplay, everything you could want. But if I had to pick an area where they have really dropped the ball, it is VIDEO GAMES.

There should be a ton of Star Wars games. Everything from side scrolling to first person shooters and racing games. There should be some that take you through the events of all the movies and some that create all new adventures. Fighting games. Turned based RPGs and strategy based RPGs.

I know some of these already exist in some form, but they are relatively ancient now. There needs to be new versions. I need a Rogue One game and a Star Wars: Resistance racing game. I need to play through the throne room scene of The Last Jedi.

There’s just so much potential and not nearly enough has been done with it in my opinion. I am not much of a video game player, but I would buy new consoles just to play some of these games and I can’t be the only one.

^ Fully agree mate. No new Star Wars Lego game since TFA? Or even fun ‘pick up and play’ games of years ago like these…

What could have been…

Agreed. If there still was LucasArts, I think we could have several interesting games. EA is just sitting on it.

Mobile games are the new fun ‘pick up and play’ games… (and there’s a few Star Wars ones)

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

Anyone have any experience with the current pen and paper RPG(s)? I’ve been considering picking up one or all of the core books and giving it a whirl with my D&D group. The way they’ve organized things is a little strange, though. Rather than setting it up like D&D, where the core books are game master’s guide, a player handbook, and a sourcebook (the Monster Manual), they organize it thematically. Edge of the Empire is scoundrels, Age of Rebellion is military, and Force and Destiny is Jedi stuff. The upside is you can play with just one of the core books, but the downside is that all the different stats and mechanics are in three different places. Anyway, I’m just wondering if anyone here’s played it and if it’s worth the time investment of learning a new system.

First of all, which system do you guys use when playing D&D? 3.5? 5e? If you guys are on 5e, I would say they would probably be okay learning Fantasy Flight Game’s system for their Star Wars RPGs. If you guys are old school, you might want to consider checking out your other two main options.

The Saga Edition came out in the 00s, and it basically uses the d20 system. From what I understand it is similar to 3.5 or Pathfinder. If you’re really old school, you find some online resources for the old '87 West End Games Star Wars tabletop game, which was a d6 system.

But honestly, the new FFG system has the most resources, as far as books on planets, crime syndicates, ships, quests, yada yada. I personally just love reading through them. I think the thing that is intimidating for new players is the unique dice that come with the game. It doesn’t use traditional dice, rather there are different types of dice that have symbols on them, and those symbols either represent success/failure and advantage/disadvantage. Some people who are used to just the d20 system might not like it, but on the other hand I’ve heard long time D&D players say they like it because it encourages creativity within the game and keeps the focus on storytelling.

Here is a brief webcomic that illustrates the way the dice work. https://www.uptofourplayers.com/comic/edge-empire-rulez-pt-1/
Here is a video that goes over the system as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hC-ch0Yckp4&feature=youtu.be&t=12m3s
I feel like once you get used to it, it actually simplifies things. I think it depends on the person though. There are definitely pros and cons to each version.

Another thing I’d recommend would be to check out some videos of people actually playing the FFG system so you can see it in action.

At first I felt having three different books felt a little gimmicky, but then I realized how much content was in each of them. So picking one up depends on what kind of game your group wants to play, either criminal underworld, rebels vs empire, or Jedi/Force stuff. What setting do you think you guys would go for?

Off the top of my head I think we’d probably start with Edge of the Empire, but I’d have to poll the gang to be sure. We do indeed play 5e, so if that’s an easy jump I’ll probably go for it at some point. I’ve actually got a few of the books from the WEG game that I snagged used from a comic shop, but given that not everyone in my group is a lifelong Star Wars diehard who’s going to be delighted just to see stuff from The Truce at Bakura or Dark Empire statted out, I figure it’s probably better to go with the game that’s based on a more current iteration of the canon. In any case, thanks a bunch for the resources!

https://winteriscoming.net/2019/02/06/disney-perfectly-fine-ea-handling-star-wars-games/

In 2013, Electronic Arts and Disney signed a 10-year licensing agreement that gave EA the sole right to produce Star Wars video games. Since then, the developer has produced are two lackluster, unimaginative Star Wars: Battlefront games, both of which had their fair share of controversy. (For comparison’s sake, when LucasArts was managing the Star Wars license, we got 16 games over the same span of time.)

^ there is the Jedi: Fallen Order game that’s scheduled for release ‘this fall’ (if not cancelled too) - though you’re right, it hasn’t been enough for many of us fans/gamers. Just the 4 more years of this deal with EA… 😉
