The Mandalorian - Star Wars live action TV series : Non Spolier thread — Page 4

Variety is reporting that the lead character will be played by Pedro Pascal.

I loved him on Game of Thrones, so I’m pretty happy about this. The fact that they’ve already been shooting for weeks and they’re just making this deal now makes me think this is probably more of an ensemble piece than they’ve been letting on, though.

When I was fan casting future SW projects in my mind, I always pictured Pedro Pascal being Cassian Andor’s older brother for some reason. Probably because they are both latino men with moustaches (“That’s racist!”). Pity the timelines won’t match between the Mandalorian / Andor series. I would’ve loved seeing them share the screen. Cassian doing black ops stuff for the Rebellion and hiring Pascal etc.

I am actually quite interested in this despite my current feelings towards the Disney era of Star Wars (R1 aside which I generally think is awesome). Already having a Netflix subscription though, I can say now that I won’t paying for a regular subscription to Disney+ (Disney’s new streaming service) just to watch this series. In saying that, if they allow you to cancel the subscription at any time without additional fees, then providing The Mandalorian gets good reviews and feedback then I might be persuaded to pay for a month and just binge all the episodes once they have all been released.

Well if Greig Fraser is going to be the cinematographer, I wouldn’t doubt this series will look as good as a Star Wars movie. The last thing I want is a low-budget look.

And I like the idea of this being set around a lone character, I really like the idea of smaller scope stories in the Star Wars universe and not having everything overlap so much.

Same, this definitely appeals to me in getting to see interesting stories set in the same universe that don’t have to revolve around the central Rebellion vs Empire conflict or even Jedi for that matter. Being set after the fall of the Empire also opens up a lot of possibilities.

Mangold was supposedly set to direct a theatrical spin-off film about Boba Fett akin to Solo, though that was never officially confirmed by Lucasfilm. If that was the case, it now looks like that’s been put on the backburner as they’ve decided to slowdown after the performance of Solo at the box office.

Is that costume real or CGI?

If they’ve started shooting already, it’s amazing they kept a lid on it this long.

I’d put money on a guess that this series was originally pre-production work for a Boba Fett movie and simply has been repurposed as a new streaming series instead when Bob Iger announced they were “slowing down” and Disney put an indefinite hold on all other “A Star Wars Story” movies. This stops the effort and cost involved going to waste and makes for a great incentive to entice viewers across to their new streaming service.

Anyway, will be an interesting production to keep an eye on that has a lot of promising potential at this point.

All we need now is Eddie Murphy as a wise-cracking droid or alien. 😛

Cast for The Mandalorian announced…

https://www.starwars.com/news/pedro-pascal-revealed-as-the-mandalorian

'Lucasfilm is pleased to announce the cast of the first-ever Star Wars live-action series — The Mandalorian.

Pedro Pascal (Narcos) has been cast in the title role as a lone Mandalorian gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy. He is joined by Gina Carano (Deadpool), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Carl Weathers (Predator), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man), and Nick Nolte (Affliction).

“We’re having a great time working with this incredibly talented group and excited for everyone to see what we’re up to,” says Executive Producer Jon Favreau.

Currently in production, The Mandalorian is written and executive produced by Jon Favreau, with Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) directing the first episode and serving as executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson. Additional episodic directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok).

The highly-anticipated series will be exclusive to Disney+, The Walt Disney Company’s upcoming direct-to-consumer streaming service, which is set to launch in the U.S. in late 2019.’

Definitely sounding pretty interesting with a great cast, though when the multiple directors are put into list form as rodneyfaile has done, there looks like maybe a few too many chefs in the kitchen.

And because of this I see The Mandalorian becoming the next biggest pirated series next to Game Of Thrones.

Just about every television show uses a host of different directors throughout a season.

Fair enough 😃

Yeah, the only American show that springs to mind that doesn’t use a different director (nearly) every episode is Mr. Robot, and that’s only after the first season.

(Not counting miniseries like Sharp Objects or anthology series like True Detective.)

Would be nice to see Bossk in his other outfit. 😛

Robot Chicken made Bossk out to be quite the stylish fellow, so I’d like to see the series wink and nod to that.
