I would still rather watch a crappy Blu-ray than a crappy non-anamorphic DVD.
The Abyss.
+1
Haven’t actually seen it, but refuse to buy letterboxed DVD of a sci-fi classic. It’s f*****g 2018!
That assumes the bluray edition is objectively superior. What with the DNR and color issues many blurays have had, that’s not always the case.
chyron just put a big Ric pic in your sig and be done with it.

I’m going to see First Man.
Jedit:
Wrong thread.

Is the The Abyss DVD non-anamorphic?
JEDIT: It is anamorphic. I just checked my media server.
Not everything has to be bluray quality to be good.

Then why does everything I’ve ever read about it say it isn’t?
Including from the venerable Bill Hunt
I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.

Fake news.
Chyron, are you sure you’re playing from the original files, or did you rip it to an MP4 or something and crop the letterboxing off in the process? Because I’ve never seen an anamorphic DVD of the SE of The Abyss.
There’s a pretty nice hybrid HDTV reconstruction of it on MySpleen at the moment, though.
Not be insulting but given his appreciation for Plex I bet that is what happened.
Is Romero’s Dawn of the Dead completely out of print? I was thinking about selling my DVD for a blu-ray, but not only does it seem like there’s no blu-ray that matches the DVD, it doesn’t even seem like the blu-ray’s available?
I recently found a Bluray copy that has all of the releases from the DVD boxset.
This is a European set and very much outta print. I was VERY lucky to find a brand-new copy at a dirt-low price. I chalk it up to my life as a Romero devotee.

If Blade Runner 2049 ever gets a sequel, I want Clint Mansell to score it.

I love that movie but I hope we never get a sequel.

Yep, this.
At least not for another 30 years.
I love that movie but I hope we never get a sequel.
Wouldn’t you have said the same for the original?

This.
That’s true, and I was a big 2049 naysayer until about five minutes into the movie.
I do think they need to wait another 30 years before attempting Blade Runner 2079 if they’re gonna. I liked how the 2049 portrayed the passage of time and would love to check in with the universe another generation down the line.
I feel like that earth will be unliveable by 2079, so if they continue it’ll be on the Off-World colonies.
.
That would also be really rad
That would be a neat sequel.

There are some members on here who’ll remember seeing that on that date 😉
Nice catch on the anniversary mate.

I think I read somewhere that the remastered Dario Argento cut is still in print in Italy, and it includes the theatrical cut as a special feature. No idea how true that is; the region was a deal breaker for me so I stopped following that lead. Might be worth looking into, though. Maybe someone here with the proper setup could rip it to an MKV.
