Gee, I had no idea the Hobbit movies were so terrible.

Author

I don’t know that I’d call them terrible. The one I saw was just really boring and really long and I hated that it didn’t even attempt to tastefully adapt the book.

I disagree on everything…well maybe I agree it’s not a faithful adaptation of the book, but on that point I just don’t care.

I didn’t watch the second two Hobbit movies. I was extremely opposed to them making a trilogy out of it.

I still don’t think it was inherently a bad idea, and I personally think the first two prove that you can make real movies out of only a portion of the story. The third really suffers from the split, though, it doesn’t do much to make itself feel like an actual story unto itself, rather than just an extended climax.

All of this could’ve been solved with more pre-pro time (and not, say, adding a movie after principal photography was over).

You disagree that it’s really long? What do you consider “really long”.

Is there any answer I can give that will satisfy you? I like the movies. Sue me.

You said you disagreed on everything I said (other than the book thing), so I asked about them being really long, because presumably you disagreed with that statement too.

Jesus Christ. This is what it’s like arguing with Warbler.

Fine, they’re long, and I don’t give a shit.

I didn’t even realize it was an argument, but whatever.

I found the movies to be visually stunning and the acting fantastic. To each their own though.

The Hobbits are remarkably watchable considering the insanely rushed circumstances. I don’t think any of them are bad, though I will say I didn’t like the third very much.

This.

I enjoyed the first two well enough but ended up sleeping throughout nearly the entire third one. And it was a friends birthday as well which goes to show that I didn’t even have that much pity on the film to stay awake for my friend.

^I remember seeing the third one with my girlfriend, who dozed off halfway through.

Coincidentally, I just finished watching the Appendices for the Hobbit trilogy (all 30 hours!), in preparation for my long-awaited 3-in-1 fanedit. It’s split between showing the art department’s dedication to making the most impressive sets and props ever seen, and showing how much of that effort was obscured with last-minute barrel chases and CGI rivers of gold.

You should see where that guy has his two thumbs!

I’d give Edge Of Tomorrow 4 woofs from 5 (with many positive waves for a fine performance from the delightful Ms. Blunt 😃)

I’m something of an apologist for the Hobbit movies. There Are a lot of things wrong with them, but most of them come down to massive studio interference, like the decision to do three films, and a bunch of the stuff that they added. If you watch the surprisingly candid extras on the DVDs and Blu-ray’s, you will see how insane the production was. Once del Toro Left, Jackson basically took over the project to prevent it from being added to some blockbuster hack. He had almost no time to prepare, in the movies suffered for it.

But there are good things scattered about; almost all the acting is uniformly excellent, there are frequently you some striking visuals, it has the most amazing dragon ever committed to film, and some very fun set pieces. I understand that a lot of people have problems with it, and there are a lot of legitimate criticism is to be made of it, but saying that it is Phantom Menace-level bad is frankly unfair. Given what Jackson had To work with, it is amazing that they even came out coherent.

I actually fell asleep during rogue one funnily enough. It wasn’t because it was boring I was just really tired and went to a late showing.

Although it kind of is.
