Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker - Discussion NON SPOILER THREAD — Page 3

I think it would be interesting to continue following Luke in Ep 9. We could see his spirit traveling to some strange force world (like Mortis) and meeting with other force ghosts (Ewan?) which would shed light on what happens after death, culminating with Luke and the rest helping defeat Kylo or whoever the big bad is. This would be a bold and new direction for the saga and also bring it full circle.

Not gonna lie, I love the idea but sadly I feel strongly that JJ will never even think to stray into this territory. If only RJ could have done episode 9 as well. Which is blasphemy to some people but his bold decisions were great for me in TLJ.

Good interview with JJ above, but I cannot help but think all these theories of alt right groups lowering the score on Rotten Tomatoes is a bunch of tosh.
The film wasnt hated by a large section of fans because it had too many women in prominent roles - what a silly thing to get upset about. Instead I believe that fans got upset with the same things that bewildered me…lack of consistent tone, pissing over all the good work from The Force Awakens, making Luke wanna murder his nephew and over the top comedy - the same comedy that was originally in ANH but the editors saw fit to remove.

I agree it wasn’t that large (definitely a minority) but there still was a significant amount who hated it for those reasons.

Funny you say it pissed over the good work of TFA in response to the director of TFA defending it. I’ll just say that mindset makes no sense.

As for your comments on ANH, I must say you are mistaken, that’s simply not at all true.

At this time it seems like Rottentomatoes is in the spotlight, while a site that isn’t in the media all the time like IMDb has a more realistic score as well as a bigger userbase. The groups you refer to hate anything and everything, just look at the whole Black Panther downvoting thing. It’s hardly a load of tosh when they go around declaring their plans. That said it’s probably a mistake for JJ to be this outspoken, some audiences should not be acknowledged or conversed with.

You should see some of the posts that were deleted from the TLJ threads by the moderators mate - and some of the right-wing extremists that joined to also tried to influence things here - and other sites; including those of prominent Star Wars fan sites / social media platforms.

As others have said ‘It’s hardly a load of tosh when they go around declaring their plans’ online.

Because you cannot see these posts/posters anymore - doesn’t mean that it didn’t happen - nor that they will not return again either. Unfortunately it also muddies the waters somewhat as to genuine Star Wars fans with legitimate criticisms of the film(s) - and not helped at times by a handful of more established / longer serving members on here also making derogatory remarks about women or the roles of minorities in the new films at times.

The Rotten Tomatoes audience score is extremely unreliable. The Black Panther score is 78 and when I clicked on the reviews (curious why it was so low compared to the critics) I swear 75% of the reviews were “looks good” or “too many superhero movies not gonna see”. People are reviewing movies they haven’t even seen

It might have been the same for TLJ. If you think the Rotten Tomatoes critic score is skewed somehow, fine use IMBD or Metacritic. But don’t trust the audience score.

Yeah, here’s some of the gems from the Rotten Tomatos audiance score for TLJ:
“From the point of view of a fan you will be insulted of the ways the original characters went, a great movie for critics, SJW’s but not for true Star Wars Fans”

“Too much of wrong in this film. I think they (the big Disney) focused on fem more than the film. RIP Starwars”

“Rian Johnson’s mama so fat that he ran out of gas trying to drive around her.
And she wrote her son’s name wrong at the registry office so it pronounced Reean instead of Ryan, and this caused a lot of trouble to her kid when he went to school.
He was bullied so badly because of his ridiculous name (and his ridiculous fatty mom) that he promised he would destroy his schoolmate’s childhood heroes the exact moment he had that opportunity.
And here we are.”

Wow, does RT moderate that crap at all? Throwing personal insults at the director is beyond the pale.

I find it funny how many people bash TLJ for having so many women in prominent roles, when if anything, I felt they were under utilized. It felt like almost none of them had an arc of their own, instead serving as supports for the arcs of the men.

Only for Black Panther are they doing anything.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

Very true. Just because Billy and Mark are in it doesn’t necessarily mean that Luke and Lando are back. No that’s crazy. Maybe they just sing in the soundtrack
