Ever since I was a wee lad I wanted to see every Robin Hood movie ever made. It’s not a burning desire so much as a sustained curiosity. According to Wikipedia, there are a whole lot of them to see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_and_television_series_featuring_Robin_Hood

However, I’ve limited myself to only Robin Hood movies released in theaters. From that list I own the following, annotated with their best quality:
The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938) - The best Robin Hood, period.
The Story of Robin Hood and his Merrie Men (1952) - The best Maid Marion.
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) - The best outlaw hideout.
Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993) - The best Errol Flynn since the original.
Robin Hood (2010) - The best rendition of a realistic England.

Furthermore, I have seen and wish to own:
Walt Disney’s Robin Hood (1973) - The best Prince John, Friar Tuck.
Robin and Marian (1976) - The best old man Robin (sorry, Russel Crowe).

This leaves me with quite a few movies yet to see, mostly from the 20’s-60’s era. Does anyone have a recommendation of a version of the tale (TV or film) that I simply must see?

There’s a short Swedish cartoon movie from 1975 which is shown on TV every Christmas Eve called “Christopher’s Christmas Mission” in English. It’s not about Robin Hood, but about a boy who works at the post office and idolizes Robin Hood. One Christmas he decides to take all the outgoing packages for rich people and hand them out to poor people. It’s a real classic in Sweden and a favorite of mine. I guess it doesn’t really fit your criteria, but it’s a nice little film anyhow.

Interesting, I’ll see if I can find it.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.
Episode 9 Rewrite, The Starlight Project (Released!) and ANH Technicolor Project (Released!)

No Star Wars Blu-Ray coffee? (Maybe it’s on your shelf) I don’t blame you anyway. Best things of the saga bluray are definitely the bonus material discs and content.

Yeah but you need them to watch despecialized

Changed my mind.

What.

What exactly did you change your mind into that made you do such a thing?

Watched the movie a couple months ago. Thought to myself: “Good movie, but not really one I see myself revisiting often. I’ll probably hand it off to the other members in my family and free up some shelf space.”

Watched the first two seasons of the TV series a number of weeks later. Thought to myself: “I really like this. I want to eventually own this on DVD/BD. I’ll hang on to the film after all, since it’s all one big universe.”

Oh, so you did keep it? Solid reasoning both for and against keeping it. I really like the movie and the series, but I don’t own them. I might pick up the movie at some point.

Coffee I notice you have the despecialized star wars trilogy but unless I’m overlooking it I don’t see the official releases on there. That’s a big no.

If I remember right, his posted list is just what he has out on his shelf, but he has more packed away in a closet/storage, including the official BR set.

At least, that’s what I believe he said last time he posted the list. I’d go back and check myself but I’m feeling lazy tonight.

It’s somewhere. Lost either in a move, or it’s buried in kipple, or something.

Ceci n’est pas une signature.

Update: I found my official discs and can prove that I am, in fact, not a pirate.

You could still have a peg-leg - and a parrot on your shoulder - especially given that strategically placed dvd in front of that shoulder…

I call pirate!

Why would I have a parrot on my shoulder? I mean, I carved a perch into the peg-leg just for him, why would he use my shoulder? 😉

Your collection is bigger than mine. But do you have any obscure 70s horror?

Alas, I lack obscure 70s films of any genre, unless one has a very liberal definition of the word obscure. Either way, you win this round, Handy Manny.

Do you have any recommendations for obscure 70s horror?

I haven’t bought any movies in months. I wonder if it was to do with the fact that I haven’t been able to purchase anything online since July due to the credit cards always being maxed out due to [issues].

No, I’m not bitter. Not bitter at all.
