It’s okay. We’ve handled a lot worse, and no harm done.

Very sad that the FBI missed all of the many signals sent out by the Florida school shooter. This is not acceptable. They are spending too much time trying to prove Russian collusion with the Trump campaign - there is no collusion. Get back to the basics and make us all proud!

I also missed the fact that the Governor of Kentucky is an Asshole/Idiot.

Well I guess you’d know better than us…?

Or you could provide some context.

Are you talking about the videogames remark?

Videogames. Scapegoat for all of society’s ills since 1976.

oh I’m sorry, I thought the context was obvious: someone you disagree with politically

Yeah ok but which part do you agree with that I don’t? All of it?

Do you think video games are the problem, not guns? Do you think the entire FBI can only investigate one thing at a time?

I don’t think either of these things make a lick of sense but I’d love to hear your side.

Believing preposterous things merely makes you spectacularly ill-informed – but you can be that without also being an idiot or an asshole. Thus, while Frink is correct that both Trump and Bevin are saying things that are completely unsupportable by any conceivable interpretation of the available evidence, his “idiot” and “asshole” designations did not logically flow from that factual assessment. They were either an injection of political opinion, or they were based on a longer-term analysis of other facts that do support those designations.

Not to mention, you can say preposterous things without actually believing them, but that does make the case for the “asshole” designation a little more clear-cut.

EDIT: It should also be noted that an early draft of Silence of the Lambs had Hannibal Lecter escaping the FBI by calling in to have them check on a teenager’s threats of violence. With the FBI’s resources completely focused on that, he just booked a flight and left. So I guess it’s not that preposterous.

Only for this paragraph.

After visiting victims of the Parkland shooting and first responders at an area hospital on Friday evening, Trump did not leave Mar-a-Lago until Sunday evening, skipping his usual rounds of golf at his nearby course in what aides described as a decision to show respect for the 17 people killed in the school massacre.

What a true American hero.

?

Though I could be wrong, it seems yhwx and Frink think that my reason for supporting a fair trial may be rooted in sexism or tolerance for a culture of rape.

Um…what?

Based on this post…

JEDIT: Probably not worth it.

Being wrong usually isn’t.

Aaaaaaaaaaaand you just proved my decision correct.

I feel you may think that I am a sexist who does not want to do enough to combat sexual assault. Like I said, I could be wrong, but then I don’t know what the meaning of your post was.

Or maybe it was because you just flat out dismissed me and/or yhwx as being “wrong” so I was correct in deciding the discussion wasn’t worth the effort as I had previous said?

Nah, I was probably calling you a sexist who approves of rape culture. That makes much more sense.

On a separate note, without joining in further on the discussion as it had evolved since the 14th, I just want to say that, as a conservative, one of the biggest areas where I have gone to the Left has been over gun control. The biggest reason why I oppose an all out ban is because of part of the intent of the Second Amendment as a check against governmental tyranny and overreach: the people should be able to rise up against the government in the most extreme of circumstances (of course, considering the United States’ capacity to destroy, it’s hard to imagine that access to guns would even do much).

That said, there is clearly not enough legislation to control the distribution of guns. All gun owners should be licensed, all license-holders should go through mandatory training and routine re-licensing, and all weapons should be registered. The Second Amendment itself seems to lend itself to it (i.e. a “well regulated militia”). We do this sort of thing for cars, and I can’t imagine the reasoning for not holding gun usage to the same standards.

I agree and it’s why I think the “we need our guns in case the government goes crazy” argument is nonsense.

LOL Coming from literally one of the most dismissive posters on OT.com

I wasn’t even dismissive to you until after you decided not to jump in. Which, in turn, could easily lead me to think that perhaps you thought my motives were less than noble.

How often have liberals used such arguments against those who oppose their points of view? The phrase “War on Women” comes to mind. Forgive me for thinking that you, in appearing to support such a clear violation of due process (through the implied edits, as I never actually read the original posts you and yhwx made), might think that someone who thinks that a likely rapist deserves a fair trial is being sexist.

However, since I was obviously in error in how I interpreted your words, I do apologize for that.
