Honestly both series have a lot of pretty awful filler episodes. Rebels more so than The Clone Wars to me though.

the space whales was a dumb episode.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

i am not bothered by animals surviving in space.

I was bothered by a whale like creature ‘swimming’ through space. and then jumping to light-speed. But mostly the visual similarity to whales, and the assertion that they can somehow flap their tales and move through space, which doesn’t have much resistance to offer to a tail flap. It really just wasn’t a creature idea that i enjoyed.

I kind of liked the whales. They seemed like something that could have turned up in one of those zany Bantam novels from the 90s.

Even when I was seven the space slug bothered me. Not that it could live in space, but that it knew something was trying to fly out of its tummy, and was trying to stop it. But it’s not the whole plot of the movie so it’s OK.

  10. The Clone Wars

If they had released a full cut of Clone Wars (2003) in theaters it would probably be my 3rd favorite in the franchise. As a show, I enjoy Clone Wars and The Clone Wars equally. Absolutely love Rebels, think it’s one of the best shows on right now, but I’ll wait for it to wrap before placing it along the rest.

The Disney films have done an incredible job of restoring a fandom in me that had long since been lost. It was a slow build and it took 3 films to convince me, but I’m fully obsessed with Star Wars in a way I haven’t been since 1998. I’ve watched all the shows and even reevaluated the prequels.

Highly doubt anything will ever touch the originals.

I’m shocked that anyone could ever sit through the entire Holiday Special. I think I might have made it through five or ten minutes at the most.

I think … I did it one time. The memory is partly blocked out. It’s not even bad in an entertaining way, it’s just horribly boring.

I watch it on YouTube all the time. Bea Arthur is great. It’s definitely better than the prequels and special editions. No, that’s not hyperbole. There is nothing in the Holiday Special worse than jar-jar or that Jedi rocks musical crap.

All the clips I’ve seen of the HS have been absolutely boring and I don’t see why I’d want to watch any more of it.

I suppose I like the Holiday Special mainly because of nostalgia. I remember when variety shows like Carol Burnett, Flip Wilson, and Sonny & Cher were popular. It reminded me of those, but with Star Wars. It was just a zany mess. I remember sitting in the floor loving The Holiday Special and my parents hating it. Good times.

No, it’s not better than the prequels or SEs. The Holiday Special is a million times more boring and even more insulting than anything to appear in any of the Star Wars films in any of their versions. Bea Arthur is great because she’s Bea Arthur and she elevates anything, but that’s only about 1 percent of the whole two hour special.

The idea that there’s a skill behind filmmaking makes it not subjective but objective.

The idea that there’s a skill behind filmmaking makes it not subjective but objective.

Skill used to create compelling art does not make it an objective art. Skill used to paint does not make those paintings an objective piece of art because everyone interprets art differently. If film is objective, then there is a measure in which to tell how “good” a movie is. Each film would have a certain measure of how “good” it is then and most people would technically either be wrong for thinking it’s better or worse than it actually is. And how do you know who actually holds this objectively correct opinion of the film?

TLDR: There are skills and techniques that help make a film that will have a better chance of connecting with an audience but art is subjective, and film is art therefore film is subjective.

Okay. The Holiday Special is objectively not art.
